1. Hi,great looking Wal,is there any markings/wear to the fingerboard?Thanks
2. The Fender jazz was my first decent bass,i paid £269 for 75 4 bolt in 1983.The neck was super slim the action low and a dream to play. The next few years everybody started playing Wal,Status,Steinberger, jaydee etc and the humble Jazz was very uncool.Luckily i avoided temptation and stuck with it and they have took over the world again. Each to their own but i think a lot of bassists try to over complicate things, perhaps trying to take the guitar guys on.Always had compliments on my bass and the sound.Eventually parted with it to get a 76 with rosewood block neck instead of maple and thats also a great bass. I think the Jazz is the female to the Precisions male.
3. [s]Check out Prometeus guitars on facebook he made my bass on my avatar,if nothing else there's some great pics showing various wood combo's...[/s] [s]no idea what lines about???[/s]
4. armando at prometeus loves multi string builds,he'll build to spec for a modest fee... https://www.facebook.com/prometeusguitars my 4 string is in my pic
5. my 1st decent bass was a 1975 jazz bought in 83 sunburst with pearl blocks on maple, the gap at the top was big enough to store my plec, played like a dream and was envied by everyone, only sold it due to a desire for a rosewood fingerboard in 2008
6. if you can guarantee i'll play like mick karn with this bass i'll have it! bump
7. i splashed out a lot of dough in the 80s on a new westone thunder 3,it was all neck and a short top horn meaning the neck is miles away on the strap,so something with a decent size top horn to bring the neck under you is the job.also something that sounds nice unplugged just spotted you got one doh!...enjoy
8. serial number checker websites should narrow it down, neck pocket stamps etc.
9.
Where on the Internet is the best place to read up to become a 70's fender geek please? So far I've just been harassing the incredible patient Ricks Fine '52
stuff like this.. http://www.fender.com/en-GB/support/articles/u-s-instruments-product-dating/ in a nutshell serial number/logo/thumbrest is the give away, thumbrest moved from below to above the strings in 74,serail no,s moved to head stock around 76/77...jazzes went from 4 bolt to 3 bolt neck mid70s again big logo/small logo.

11. alreet! nice bass (again) is the neck a jazz profile or a precision profile just with inlays?..i'm in sunderland and although i'm trying to make space under my bed i'm easily led
12. got my 1980 4001 few years ago from a local guy off ebay for £800 which i thought was a bargain ,i got it more as a treat/investment.i'm pretty much a fender jazz devotee but i like the rick its a bit harder to play but the sound and look are 2nd to none.
13. i have a t-max 115 combo with a 2x10 cab to take it to the full 500amp...bought it new around 97 and it was £800 then(combo only) so they were quite expensive...love it,always getting compliments on the sound
