  1. It seems to be a mix of the punk look of the day ,bass slung low and his big influence Jean Jacques Burnels swagger and stoops
  2. Who else played like Hooky ? Then or now ? Cure guy maybe but I'd say he was influenced by him . I'm not a massive Jd NO fan but he has his own sound
  3. There's loads of good players I don't like because I heard about them so looked them up and said no thanks . Like someone else said, people who " never heard of them " are saying more about themselves than the player
  4. The Internet is full of that which is great . Why commission a series to do the same. I'm self taught so deconstructing lines I heard from 1979 onwards is how I sound like I sound . Id hear something like Joy division and think what is he doing there ,that sounds odd then work out why . Next day it's Xtc or Joe Jackson band or Japan then Pil . Next thing you know you sound like a mix of them all .
  5. Yeah this is why I was at . It was interesting . I've no Jd ,new order stuff but I got his reasons for how he did stuff and how you got going back then ,his story . Those songs would have been completely different without his lines on it so that's the impact each player wants . People dissing stuff is embarrassing. People not even knowing who people are and quoting all the old timers, I find odd . If you truly love bass you've missed out on loads of stuff and influences . My playing has evolved from taking in everything for 47 years The little section on slap was an indicator as to where the makers are on it . I like the approach
  6. I've watched two It's been better than I thought . It's nothing to do with great bass lines. I'd struggle to give it a title but it's watchable It seems to concentrate on the bass journey of 1 person then has the cameos to drop in to back it up. I expected a list of the same old same old basslines and clips . Luckily it's not . It's keeping away from flash 100 notes a minute ,technically perfect stuff which will probably rub a few but I get it when people say I put an album on and started copying it and my life changed. Playing high because no one hears you otherwise etc .
  7. My best to play bass doesn't sound the best My best sounding one doesn't play the best etc I've done gigs with Squier basses ,and with big money stuff When you get band compliments and you're using Gibson les pauls and Diezel and Soldano ,Sadowsky and Ampeg and a top end pa and cables ,its not a co incidence
  8. i have the exact model 2006 Live its an absolute beast .Just loads of solid tight tone across the neck
  9. i use a local football forum with a 14000 plus active members and its a big concern for the mods on there and all its users Hope a solution is found half the forum is any topic you wish from favourite sandwich to depression and suicide and its been a lifeline for a lot of local folk i get you need Policing of groups but this is far too clumsy

  11. incredible bass line . Haven't a clue what he's doing . Saw them last night
  12. Thundercat last night He's clearly a very talented bloke but its a mad old combo of out there jazz madness meets super smooth dreamy soul/rnb type thing What is for sure it you get world class playing from drums and keys and bass and it sounded superb Best live bass mix i've heard and i've seen Geddy, claypool, levin .karn etc
  13. Cheap basses are way better than when I started in 1979 Pre Squier etc Only catalogue kay basses etc If you got the right bass in the 80s it's value has risen but it's not across the board . If I was skint I'd happily buy a £250 bass .
  14. So tempted but basses lying all over. I have a uv70 Japan metro Incredible sound ,heavy though
  15. Sad news indeed He was a big part of Kates work once she started to find independence in her music making Some great work on The Dreaming onwards and as much as I loved the big name cameo bass guests he did what was left brilliantly
  16. Agree , there's a point you make some effort for an interested buyer . I'd be reluctant to pull a vintage bass apart for a maybe buyer . They guy sounds like he knows enough to value the bass but not keen on taking it apart . Many aren't . He's encouraged a physical try out so sounds genuine.
  17. Dirty sound Magnet Amazing rock, prog, improv, space, power trio from Switzerland £13 a ticket, took a chance, never heard of them Wow . S..T 🔥 HOT Check YouTube
  18. Took to lenses straight away in the 80s I'm that age now where lenses are no good close up so gigs fine apart from setting up leads and pedals etc in the dark . I wear glasses 70% of the time now as they are varifocal
  19. I bottled out when Derek Forbes ex Simple Minds was selling his Wal on ebay .It went for £4500,about 7-8 years ago i should have gambled
  20. Do we think the Wal price explosion has settled now ? bassbros and andys have stuff around 8k You have to be buying at that price for investment i'd say ,but will it rise ?
  21. love my cij Geddy Strangely didnt bond with my usa one at all
  22. manic but you have to take time to connect to people 😃
  23. You get baseball caps with pics of fish on just thought i'd mention 😄
  24. i think thats a great offer ,i sold a mid90s cij 62 P private for £495 about 4 years ago ,same as i bought if for . If they sell for £800 the vat is in there and its complicated on used items ,perhaps £100 of the sale is vat ?
  25. I'd say the majority of private sales are overpriced with a story to match it gets a bit tiring "anyone looking will know how good these are " "rare" " sought after " . etc etc If someone really wants the bass you may get that high price but if i'm selling,i want it gone at a fair price
