The SR506 is going to have to wait for a while now - I found a bit of extra cash and ended up buying a Stingray instead!!!! It is definitely going to be the next bass I buy though.

You should be able to get an Ashdown ABM Head and cab secondhand, or a decent older Trace Elliott stack but it depends what you want - TBH for that sort of money you'll be able to get yourself a pretty decent amp - especially if you buy used.

These have been going for stupid prices in recent months so for about your budget you could get a hell of a lot of bass.[/quote] All the MIA Jazz's (and the MIM and Squiers for that matter) I played when I was deciding what bass to go for were extremely good quality wise - the build quality on the MIA's I played is easily up there with Musicman - I would definitely say that the Stingrays feel more substantial (they are built like tanks) but I don't think it's a "quality" issue more to do with how they are built/designed - completely different feel to both basses and you should go for what feels right for you.

I just bought this from someone on here for pretty much what you're looking to spend - I've seen some go for cheaper than that on Ebay recently as well.

As this is going to be the last bass I can buy for a while I'm having to think really hard about what I want, and the truth is I can't find one that ticks all the boxes in the price range I'm looking at - I know I'm going to have to compromise but it's sooo hard to choose.
