Driven by necessity, up for sale is my Yamaha Attitude II 10th Anniversary Billy Sheehan Signature. Yes. It's Purple. #28 of 300 in this colour There were also 300 in black. Billy owns #001. purchased it new in 2003. The various online Yamaha dating resources don't seem to work with the serial number. That said, the plate on the back says April 2000, so I'll go with that... The fit, finish and build quality are exemplary, (Made in Japan) and it's in very good condition, having seen only rehearsal, studio and home use. It's never been dropped or dinged. All original except I've fitted Schaller strap locks in place of the original buttons. Technically, it's all good; 3x Gotoh tuners 1x Hipshot (Genuine, not licensed) detuner on the "E" DiMarzio Will power pickups wound to Sheehan's specs. Phenolic resin fretboard with scalloped upper frets for those of you that like to bend. Maple neck under all that purple, and there's an Alder body in there somewhere, too. It's passive and the two outputs can be twinned. Controls are V (neck) Tone (neck) and mid-cut the last one is V for the "P" pick up plus it twins and separates the outputs. Currently strung with Elixir Steels in .045 .065 .80 .100 Comes with its original case and corresponding key. Collection only from my home address in Essex, please, but at least you'll get to try it! Any questions, fire away!

**SOLD** Warwick Streamer LX6 (1997) *Price drop* £800

For Sale, my 1997 German Warwick Streamer in Honey Violin. I purchased it new from the Wapping Bass Centre that year. Gold hardware, 24 fret Wenge neck, 34" scale. Seymour Duncan pickups rather than the current MEC units they're using. It has the original 2 band MEC EQ. Has the earlier Just-a-nut in brass with the turntables for each individual string. The small cosmetic dings in the images were already present when I bought it. It's currently strung with Elixir (coated) Nickels; .028 .045 .065 .080 .100 .130 Struggling to upload images. They're all failing. I'll try reducing the file size... Comes with its original Warwick Rockbag I am not comfortable shipping instruments, so it's collection from my home address in central Essex. At least that way you can sample the bass, my (poor) tea-making skills and (non-existent) sympathy... -
Why does JAZZ seem to be so widely disliked?
Lfalex v1.1 replied to xilddx's topic in General Discussion
I tend to equate jazz with opera. I hate both equally -
An example of very talented musicians murdering a classic, imo....
Yep.

And now, for the first time in 20 years, the batteries in one of my basses have leaked. Yup. In this bass. It's cursed. Don't even play it any more. What an epic waste of money. Great to begin with, then begins the long and expensive slide downhill.

Nope. I like variety and a choice of instruments with a distinct character. Yes, I've sold on a few, but I still own 10. I ought to sell the Status, probably at a monumental loss, and buy a nice fretless 5. I find having a good range of instruments keeps my ability to play most bass guitars I might encounter alive. And a nice range of toys/tools depending on the situation.

Just to briefly re-visit this review, the NS CR5 is still going strong. High points are definitely; Sound, playability, EQ and design. Low points? Battery life. But you sure can tell when they're fading, as the sound follows suit!
Gigging? I doubt I'll be alive. Seriously though, I'm past 70 now and although I still average three a week I've got to face the possibility of stopping soon. I still play OK and knock up an awesome amount of miles up and down the country but I don't want to be 'the old guy in the band' and certainly wouldn't want to be a 90 year old curiosity.
Alternatively, if you continue to fulfil the rôle of bassist in line with the other members' expectation and still enjoy it, why stop unless infirmity demands it?
sometimes you can fingerstyle play lines that sound like slap, but aint actually slappin. just get them fingers under the strings
This. Finger style funk is just as acceptable.
Bass guitars: Steinberger XL2A - huge lows which is why they were so popular with dub and reggae players for a while. Uprights: NS CR4 - the 42" scale provides monstrous lows with the right set up.
I have an NS CR5- even better with a B. I also have a Yamaha attitude. That's quite meaty, too. Warwick Fortress MM 5 gets my vote, but that's because it has two preamps, one for each coil of the HB, and you can dial in stupid amounts of bottom end.

Check the DiMarzio range. I think they do an appropriate unit. Called the Model one IIRC. Don't know if it's a drop-in fit though.

I saved and saved and saved and saved... Enough for a Thumb 5 NT. Went to the Wapping Bass Centre on 19/04/97 and tried one. Preferred the Streamer LX5. Then found this dusty black thing in the corner from a manufacturer I'd never heard of. I bought that without hesitation. It was a Vigier. I still own it. (But 3 Warwicks have since followed- a Streamer LX6, Infinity SN4 and Fortress MM5) Edit for- wouldn't mind a Dolphin at some point. It'd have to be NT, though.

Incubus Marillion Edit- Genesis!

Not sure about blood wood, but Pau Ferro (Iron Wood) is another good option. Had it on my EBMM Ray 5 fretless. Hard as nails, too.

I'd guess that having a 6-string fretboard made wouldn't be vastly more expensive than a 4-string. Time/Labour is probably a major contributor to the overall cost. My Electric upright has a Macassar Ebony fingerboard, and I think it's a big part of the tone and feel of the instrument. IF the bass is worth it, don't rule out ebony. It looks nice, feels and sounds great, and is extremely hard-wearing.
I've not been to a Church without hymns. Usually go to C of E ones.
I prefer my 5 string Churches tuned G to B...
