I seem to be able to hop to and fro without too much trouble, 4s, 5s and 6s That said, because I swap a lot, I prefer my instruments to be in standard tuning at concert pitch. Drop tuning throws a spanner in the works, as it were. It's when I strap the Chapman Stick on that it gets confusing! ( Really confusing!)

I really like my NS 5 CR. The Low B is well-integrated sound-wise; it sounds like it's meant to be there. I kept finding fretless to be too nasal sounding for my taste, but the EUB has a deeper, more mellow voice. The HazLab preamp in the NS CR is among the best I've used in an electric instrument. The EQ set-points are perfect.

For Sale, my Boss ME 8b multi effects floor unit. In very good condition as it's never been gigged and has only had 1 or 2 rehearsal outings. Haven't used it at home for years, either! It has the added benefit of having a Roland EV-5 expression pedal included, which can be variously assigned to function as a volume pedal, wah pedal, synth controller, pitch bend and ring modulator control IIRC. Effects include Compressor/Enhancer/Defretter Octave OD/Distortion/Fuzz Humanizer/EQ Synth Bass/T wah Chorus/Flanger Delay Reverb Comes with its original PSU and packaging, but I can't find the manual. Fear not! It's available as a PDF from the BOSS website... The only catch is that I don't want to post it, so it's cash on collection from my home address in Chelmsford, Essex. Thanks for looking, Alex.

For sale, my Squier Vintage Modified Jazz Bass. Never gigged. Has seen a little rehearsal usage and mainly home practice. Never dropped, bashed or dinged. Has been slightly modified with changes to control knobs and the bridge, which are now Schaller items and a Badass II which I fitted myself. Currently strung with DR Marcus Miller Fatbeams. I will supply a Rockbag padded gig bag. £200 Cash on collection from my home address only, as I won't ship items. Thanks for looking. Alex.

I tried setting my EQ to compensate for the room modes/response by plugging my mobile into it and running a series of test tones and dialing up a "flat" sounding curve. I then reproduced this on the amp's sliders. Works rather well. You then just tinker with the instrument EQ and (perhaps) the EQ balance and compressor (SMX owners) to make any desired tonal adjustments.

Just sold Austin my Fender Jazz. Nice guy, good to deal with. Communicates well, and this led to a straightforward meeting and a smooth transaction. Deal with confidence. Thanks, Austin.
