1.
Chris is a personal friend of mine;) He supplied me with my 6& 8 string basses ..and my jack daniels bass! Tbh, all of these are ch pickups and are loud as f@@k! Great sound. Great bloke, so buy with confidence. Btw; the jd has musicman pickup on it. Band members preferred that bass sound to my steineyes and washburn status .
Ah nice one cheers! Think I'm going to go with them and get their 5 string musicman pickup as a replacement.
2. I currently use a Zoom PS-04 which is a portable 4 track and has an onboard (albeit mono) condensor mic. However after reading and looking into some of the suggestions on this post, I am now really fancy one of these portable mic-recorder devices as these may be more fit for purpose when it comes to recording a rehersal room demo. Theres something about listening to a good quality rehersal room demo that is often more exciting than a polished mulititracked recording IMO.
3. Anyone ever used the pickups from chguitars.co.uk? Thinking of getting a musicman style pickup because the output is a bit lower than the one currently in my Vintage 'ray copy so hoping might be a bit less aggressive. They are not too expensive either so thinking maybe worth a punt.
4.
Unless you really want a new bass, wouldn't it be safer to go for a second hand Vintage EST96? They're easily available second hand for about 100 notes or so. http://www.ebay.co.u...=item2c72407f63 And they're proper active Stingray copies. For less money, there's the Westfield copy. Here's one on here which was sold for £30. http://basschat.co.u...tyle-bass-sold/ (albeit with bent, though working, tuner). The no-brand ones could be decent, but I think the Vintage EST96 in particular is likely to be a safer bet. Edit: The seller has sold hundreds of the basses, with seemingly few left in some models.
I actually have no interest on getting on of these clones just pointing them out as per the ebay weird and wonderful in case they may be of interest to someone. I've got a Vintage EST96 myself anyway and that does the trick, I suppose second hand you could get a lot of better things than this ebay page for 100 quid but if someone finds it of interest it may have been worth the post.
5. Cheap stingray a likes on this ebay page. http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=140911768366 With the exception of headstock I think it looks like quite a nice ray-alike for just over £100 notes. I assume passive as no mention of preamp.
6.
I've been playing a 5 for 13 years only to discover I actually much prefer playing a 4 string. I have used the low B as fair bit, but in all honesty I play better on a 4. I kind of want to get rid of my last 5er but part of me thinks as I've only one of each now whether there is reason to or not. But I do play it and wish it had one string less, even though it sounds good.
I'm so fickle. Did one band practice just using a four. Turns out I massively missed the low B. It makes a better thumb rest than a pickup, my playing style is definitely better and I use low strings it far more than I realised..
7.
Still Gassing for a Stingray Greggo??
Comes and goes. I've got my 'ray copy to sound as close to a ray as it will funds allowing with its clone preamp, and it just cuts through so much better in my band situation than my summer acquisition (4 string Yamaha BB414). But thinking it would sound a bit sweeter with flats, but no reference as to what it may sound like.

9.
If you go to Ed Friedland's You Tube Bass Whisperer channel , he does a review of the Stingray Classic ( May 2010) with flats on it and plays it with a pick at one point.
Ah yes I've found that will have a proper listen in head phones, cheers.
10. Cool would be interested to hear - is it on yt?
11. Anyone know of any songs or clips of the above? I'm thinking it would be quite an interesting sound but not been able to find anything particularly on you tube?
12. Are you trying to make fully grown men cry!

Yamaha BBs

I really like the green Michael Anthony version with the chilli pepper inlays! Is it the BB3000MA? How much would one of them set you back?
14. I don't particularly like Mr Big or Billys tone and certainly don't like watching his soloing , but I've got to admit watching interviews with him on YouTube he's a very interesting bloke and some of his bass lessons are very useful indeed. I've got a lot of good information from watching him and like the way he talks about his methods of set up. He seems a very down to earth guy too.
15.
Not for you, maybe, but myself, and some others who have posted above in this thread, do have specific issues with getting to the first unread post in a thread. personally, I'm only bothered about a solution to that, whether it's an app or something else.
I was being a bit tongue in cheek, was more of a dig at how TDPRI.COM is a bit annoying on a phone in comparison. I use chrome on an Galaxy s3, have you tried a different browser? I know one stock android browser it looks a bit different from what I remember.
16. I've recently joined a new band that is the exact same members of the last one but with a new drummer and now going under a new name. Ditching all previous material and going in a new direction in a new rehearsal space, hoping I will be actually enjoying playing again!
17. Nothing wrong with this mobile site! I always use the mobile site to the point where I feel quite spoiled because of how good it is. Eg, TDPRI.com is a ball ache to use in comparison when looking at that site on mobile as no mobile version available. You don't know you're born!
18. My college bass was awesome! Was a home built p bass copy finished with like a fence panel staining and had strings on older than the building I'm sure! Recorded a few tracks with it and it did actually sound quite good to be fair. Actually borrowed it before I owned a bass and it did get me interested in learning the bass proper.

20. I have watched a few of his vids and they are pretty good. I wonder if his glove has an effect on his tone? I bet a lot of kids where gloves as a result of watching his videos not realising why he wears it..
21. For a cheap (albeit light guage 40 - 125) 5er set there are Castle strings from axesrus £6! Sound okay too.
22.
+1 Can't blame 'em though..
We're all a sucker for a pretty face where's she from anyway? I don't think she's from UK is she?
23.
It does make me wonder if there'd be anywhere near as much interest if the player was an overweight, unattractive bloke . . .
Haha yeah I totally agree there . Would Stuart Zender have given Rodney Biggleswade, taxi driver from Barnsley a free Warwick for being able to adequately play a few of their numbers? I doubt it!
24.
No, I don't think doing yourself more damage is really an issue with taking painkillers - you're more likely to hold yourself awkwardly and sit or lift improperly if you're sore - at this stage if it is a muscular or tendon problem, gentle exercise and early mobilisation is usually helpful, and painkillers/anti-inflammatories tend to promote that. But, like I say, it's best getting a hands-on diagnosis to confirm that.
Thanks for information, nice to have a resident GP on basschat If I'm not ok to drive tomorrow will work from home and get an appointment. I suppose I can judge how better I am by if I can get left hand to fret a note on bass! Couldn't actually get any strength to do that yesterday!
25. She's got so many nice basses, she must be a really good saver or have a well paid job! Is that a 10xx or 20xx yamaha?
