I'm a bit late to the party on this but I've got a spare one you can have if you haven't already ordered one....
Ooh yes please if you didn't mind?

Because Im so used to adjusting my other bass from the top end, this was a totally new ball game it seems! Even with the plastic seat off it doesnt buy you that much room certainly no where near the same room you have on a headstock end adjuster. i had to do two turns so it equated to a 1/4 turn. I think its safe to say the truss rod is fine after all but it did need a fair bit of welly and a push down on the neck to persuade it to move. When it did move it was fairly smooth so Im happy that I havent forced it against its will or anything!
Hope that helps, and sorry for not doing this when I said I would.
Ah dont worry about that, we've all got lives outside of the forum! Thats brilliant thanks for your help, going to get the part ordered today. Greg

This is going to sound bit dim, but I managed to sort it - by removing the plastic cover in the cavity where rod nut is, it gave me more wriggle room to fit Allen key in and turn it 1/4 turn. Truss rod is not about the headstock end but where neck meets body and I realised that I couldn't reasonably turn the Allen that much with the cover in place even if I could fit key in... Are you meant to remove this bit anyway..? (plays better now btw!)

There's probably a topic already on this, but..

Just write it on in marker pen -
They are new strings that I put on, 45 - 105 but previous owner had same guage on too. Maybe should have gone with 40 - 100s. If lighter strings were put on and there is still the same bow is that a duff rod?
Let me get back to you about the switch specifics. It's not hard though. The only thing that might go wrong is the phase of the pickups. If you wire them wrong they'll sound fine individually but together it'll be weak with a marked reduction in bass. If that happens then swap the ground/hot wires of one of the pickups going to the switch. But I'll have a look tonight and let you know exactly what I did.
Thanks for that

Thanks for help. Had another go tonight of loosening it and it is doesn't really budge in either direction, so last chance saloon will try WD40 if that no worky, then it's probably a repair job (at some point). Still I'm happy with the bass and warts and all was a good trade.
-
Might be daft question but how would the nut be taken off? With an adjustable spanner with the neck off?
-
In case the nuts just seized a bit, what is a good lubricant that is safe to use on it? Can a sprit of WD40 work using the straw to direct it or is is that a no no

Thanks for the info. I had another look last night and it isnt quite sitting on the wood like i thought, it just looks very close, like a hair width away. Managed to get 1/4 turn clockwise out of it, but it was hard going. Im wondering if its just at the end of its travel. Definitely not going to try my luck any more, will just live with it as is, the 1/4 turn seems to have lessened the bow a little bit anyway.
-
Got a new bass recently in a trade and was looking to tighten a bit as there is perhaps a little bit too much relief but when putting the Allen key in it was very tight and I notice it looks like it's sitting on the wood so nigh on impossible to move. Please tell me it's not broken and just maxed out?

They do 5 string sets for a tenner too deffo can't go wrong. Shame no flatwound sets but maybe they will eventually

Strung up my BB today with these not a dead string in packet I'm happy to report! Not plugged in yet but sound nice acoustic at least.
When I rewired my BB450 I used one of these: http://www.axesrus.c...rbodytoggle.htm
Dont suppose you have the wiring diagram for this do you?
-
Yeah, they are fantastic - I change roughly every two months if gigging regularly and they sound great. It's not Tom Jones to get a dead string (particularly the E) in a pack but I've had the same problem with some other brands costing five times as much, so I don't really see that as an issue.
Yeah I used some strings once that were unopened and lying around in rehearsal room as spares (Johnny Brooke brand) that had a dead E but apparently they were bought in bulk and were about £4 a packet

Cool looking forward to getting it strung up!

Anyone used legacy strings from strings direct? I got some for a newly acquired bass and as payday a long time off went with these because they are cheap like the budgie. Are they any good for price?

I think may need a toggle switch replacement as looks like the plastic switch bay has snapped a connector. WIll get something more heavy duty. Spotted another issue - the bridge pickup was in the boddy and and realised the adjusting screws are missing. Does anyone know what type of screws/springs suitable for the bridge pu on this bass?
-
That selector switch looks like it would do the trick actually. Yup my toggle does neck pu /both pu's / bridge pu. I can get a picture up yes, took one last night. The switch inside has a plastic connector bay, i think the pins have snapped on it, so unless held down with force, the selector toggle itself doesnt do anything.
-
Good call - anyone know if this particualr toggle switch suitable for Yamaha BB414? http://www.axesrus.co.uk/Long-Toggle-Pickup-Selector-Switch-p/longtoggleswitch.htm The one inside mine has a a plastic connectot (which I assume the pins to connect have snapped hence looseness) but this one the sodler points are attached directly. Thanks

I traded a bass privately for a Yamaha BB 414 and just noticed a few minor issues could do with advice! The selector switch seemed a bit iffy so took the back panel out to see what the issue is and it seems the plastic switch which has all the connections to it is loose so the actual switch can't change the pickup. A work around that someone has put in place is to wedge something on to of it to keep it still but it had slipped. I wedged a thick piece of card on top which is kept in place by plastic panel and seems okay for now. Are these parts easily replaceable?
-
Very much so. May make a point if dropping in and telling them so. Picked up bass this morning not plugged in yet but only issue can see so far is the selector switch is a but iffy, seems loose and although selects positions it doesn't stay in position (kind of falls) but I'm sure that will be an easy fix?

Arranged a trade of one my 5'ers for an orange BB414 , all goes well picking up tomorrow!
