1. I'm so glad someone cleared up why he wears that little glove.
2.
When I say 6 months, that's because I spent most of the time sleeping on his floor at night after our second was born... common sense applies here. Anti-inflammatories, changing posture, regular exercise - nah, those are for wimps! If that sort of injury lasts for longer than a few weeks you're generally doing something daft that stops it settling down.
I fear that as much as I'm trying to avoid any heavy lifting, picking him up can't be completely avoided and can't help matters with my injury! I've been taking ibuprofen (although only 200mg x 2) which have helped somewhat, although only really having 1 or 2 doses daily - i can't help but feel if the pain is numbed I won't realise how much more damage I may end up accidentally doing!
3. Thanks for replies Day 4 and still in pain, I can feel pain in my legs too so think whatever I have done I've really damaged myself and I'm struggling to have any strength in doing simple things like opening a bottle lids, doing shirt buttons etc. Come to think of it, I was larking about with son last weekend and throwing him in the air too and as much as he was laughing his head off, he's probably having the last laugh now! 6 months, groan! Was meant to be first rehearsal with new band this Thursday too! Yep will get checked in with doctors and see about a physiotherapist!
4. I recently ordered some status hotwire as a present for my partners step dad and he seems to like them. They seem inexpensive so wondering whether to stick a set on my 5ee which is currently feeling sorry for itself since I acquired a 4 string (which I now prefer playing)
5. I know people say that flats are really good for blues, jazz and all that jazz.. But are they good for other types of music like indie / rock type music? I know Steve Harris uses them and he don't play no jazz! Also if you let roundwounds go dead aren't you basically using poor man's flats anyway? I've recorded plenty of songs with dead rounds and they sounded quite good so thinking I may be a fan of the flats..
6. I ended up going with Status Hot wires in the end they seem highly praised. I'm actually tempted to try flats myself on one of my basses, have little experience using them, only that when I did play them they felt nice on the fingers but they sound good though! Might actually suit some of the songs I play in my band.
7. I think my 16 month old son has broken me and I'm struggling to have any dexterity in hands! He's pretty heavy now and about 3 days I woke up and I had pains in my both hands and tendons and I can only think that picking up my son and carrying him I've done my arms in! It's like I've done most excessive arms workout at the gym! Anyone else had this? Pain is in biceps triceps and particularly tendons. Most upsetting thing is that since I cannot play my bass and it's really difficult to drive too! It's day 3 now and feels more painful than ever!
For me they're simply not very physically attractive. Come on, there has to be at least SOME sexiness in a bass for me to want to play her! The BB series is one of the most utilitarian looking things I've ever seen. The feel fine, nothing special imho but certainly sufficient if you're into their neck profile, and the sound very good in a classic fender bass kinda way. Very well built, also, with solid hardware. Body shape turns me off, so does the headstock, so do the LOOK of their pickups and general mounting area for everything. If I close my eyes I can really enjoy playing one though for a while.
To be fair I used to think they were butt-ugly at first, but when i was browsing some old Yamaha catalogues and seeing various older models, something clicked in me and I decided I wanted one! I think for a supposed budget bass the BB414 is well builit and sounds pretty massive.
9. Just checking. Think will get them - thank you all!
10. Thanks for relies! Will trubass rotos still worked when plugged in? its this bass http://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/Electro-Acoustic-Bass-Guitar-by-Gear4music/BLX?origin=product-ads&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=&utm_campaign=PLA+G4M&utm_content=aaqSduGA|dm_pcrid_30515377999_plid__kword__match__
Hey folks Tried to adjust the relief on my BB414 and couldn't. The rod seems stuck...any tips? Is there something you need to do other than "insert allen key" and turn?
I had same issue on my BB414. I unscrewed the little plastic cover to get a get a bit more room to manaeovre and by pressing neck down a bit and a bit of pressure on the allen key eventually it moved smoothly. Took a bit of persuasion though - was a bit hairy!
13. Does such a thing exist or can regular flats go on an acoustic bass? They are for my partners step dads birthday but I'm not up on my flatwound at all! Thanks
14.
I played a Vintage reliced strat a while back, the frets could have been finished better, felt a bit scratchy.
Scratchy frets are always a pain on lower end instruments. It's just one more thing that needs to be sorted out stopping you from just enjoying playing it. The Squier CV frets were spot on.
15. When I played it on Friday it did look feel and sound the part! My mate has an MIJ tele and quality wise was in par with definitely. The vintage is cheaper though but the set up could potentially be awful but then that's not a massive issue.
16. I've got a Vintage bass and that's very well made but because it was stingray copy it didn't sound much like one because of cheap stock preamp. I imagine there guitars are better though because Trevor Wilkinson is a guitarist by trade anyway I believe.
17. I played a Squier CV in a music shop today and it feels well built, nice fretwork and played really well (and importantly soudned like a tele should). I dont know of anywhere that has a Vintage v52 to play, so that would have likely been a risky online order. Im thinking the Squier may be worthwhile definiitely. Got a few guitars to part ex in, will re-visit monday to see what the craic is
18. As above anyone got any experience of either the above teles? The Vintage v52 is much cheaper by about £100and has the much praised Wilkinson hardware on. But then the CV series by Squier, certainly in regards of their basses, get much love so I'm thinking this must ring true of guitars also. They both seem similarly matched in a lot of ways except price. I have guitars to sell but would probably only raise enough for Vintage alone, would have to fork out a bit for CV but whether it's worth it would be interested in opinions either way. Thanks
19. Sorry to resurrect from the dead but it agree really good tone. He's a pick player and the sound he gets is very finger like on this. It's a pick tone I'd like to achieve for some of my bands songs. How best to replicate? Tone all the way down on bass and treble cut on amp?
20. Decided not to bother moving pickup back permanently. I did test it but found that the 4mm didn't make much of a difference to warrant a new pickguard. I actually think a new shorter bridge as tommorichards suggested might be a better mod but whether I can be bothered now is a different matter, it does the job for me now either way, it would be a mod for mods sake.
21.
Sort of 'what's the best metal for metal?' ?
Tungsten because it has a scooped sound and lots of top end when you tap on it with a spoon! The tone spoon doesn't lie!
22. I've never been able to believe that wood has any bearing on the amplified sound of an electric guitar. People have tried to explain the way it is meant to work but I can't accept it. I'm not sure if I even believe wood affects sustain. I think it's the metal the strings are attached to that affects the sound. We Should concentrate on looking into "tone metals".
23.
Yes, but it doesn't matter. There are only 13 notes, after all.
Exactly! I just happened to pick the same notes in the same rhythm
24.
You mean you nicked 'em?
I'm not gonna lie, there was one bass line I nicked from him. But then it was a bass line he played over one of my riffs and when band split I made the riff into a song and used his line.. does that count...
