1. Finished work early yesterday and drove a 330 mile round trip to pick up a Fender American Standard Jaguar Bass (I don't trust couriers, too many horror stories on here!). I've always wanted a Jaguar since the original Japanese model came out, so when I could finally afford to treat myself I started looking for one and found there was a US version, only available for a couple of years. I found a couple for sale and went for this one. Looks great, is pretty light, and plays really nicely. Looking forward to figuring out the controls this weekend!
2. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 1 post to view.
3. ****** SOLD ****** Selling my HB Kahuna bass ukulele. Bought it to a company my father in law at his uke nights, but neither of us go anymore and I never play it at home. I'll take pictures if anyone wants them but there's nothing much wrong with it besides the few sharp frets and cheap ply construction that it came with! It's the version with the B-Band preamp. Not worth posting, so collection / possible meet up around Worcestershire / West Mids please.
4. I am going to miss that neck! But there's a two bass rule in our house (not my rule!) and there's currently three after it's replacement arrived today!
5. Consistency of tone for me. I always used to play with fingers in my punk band, and I got pretty fast, but especially when moving around onstage and playing harder when it was a poor onstage mix, I'd have some notes much louder than others, or with a different tone. Changing to playing with a pick kept that same tone and volume throughout the song. In my covers band I went back to fingers, because then I wanted to hear different tone for different parts of songs again, but that just wasn't required for punk.
6. ***** now sold ***** I sold all my gear last year before moving house, and this was the first thing I bought afterwards just so I had a bass in the house, but it's just not getting played much now so I'm replacing it with something P shaped. I bought it from Bass Direct for £150, so asking the same. It's a lot of bass for the money! Very well made, better than the Mex Fenders I've had. Schaller Licesed Tuners, Hohner branded EMG Select pickups, active/passive switch, volume, volume and stacked treble/bass. Very shallow neck profile and a pretty flat fretboard so really easy to play. It's pretty heavy, but balances well. Very good condition for its age (early-mid 90s?). I assume it's made it the Cort factory as it's made in Korea with a C serial number. I'd rather not post at the moment (no case or gig bag by the way), but i'm near Worcester, and in Coventry four days a week and Shropshire some weekends, so meeting around the Midlands shouldn't be a problem!
7. Thanks Kev! Enjoyed your set too, can never have many songs about dragons!
8. My band The Fatal Mistake released our debut album in 2004, and gained a small fan base and some good reviews. We even got a release in Australia. And then we split up! We randomly met up at a gig a few years ago, and decided to get back together. We live hundreds of miles apart now, so recording has been a very slow process, but we've finally recorded our second album, out now on Spotify, iTunes, Google Play, Amazon, etc. Let me know what you think! https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/find-your-way-back/1381059534?uo=4&app=itunes https://play.google.com/store/music/album/The_Fatal_Mistake_Find_Your_Way_Back?id=Brfpctbzxu42atqnemu242dhcd4 (the odd scattering of profanity in a few of the songs, most streaming services say which ones)
9. It does sound great in the hands of someone who can play it... but that's not me!
10. Selling my 2014 ('120th Anniversary' inlay) Gibson SGJ. Mahogany body, maple neck, rosewood fretboard. 61 zebra humbuckers. Good condition, these mark (relic?) really easily with the satin finish, so you can probably see a couple of fine marks in the photos, but it's never been gigged, I just bought it to play at home, so nothing major. Plays and sounds great. No postage as I have no hard case for it, so collection or meet up preferred.
11. Hipshot BT1 detuner. Used, but good condition and I still have the packaging. There's one screw missing, but I used the ones that were on the bass already. £45 posted (within the UK).
12. Good as new Zoom B9.1UT multi effects pedal. I barely used this, only a handful of gigs, it's a great pedal, does everything, but as I only ever use a bit of overdrive and an octaver it's overkill for my needs so I'm going to get something smaller. Also includes a Gator gig bag, and original power lead. I'd rather not post it due to weight and I haven't got the box anymore, so collection or meetup preferred. 13. I'm selling my Sandberg Electra VS4. Sandberg's 'parts made in Korea, assembled in Germany' take on the MIM Precision, and it's definitely better quality than the two MIM Fenders I've had in the past. Sounds great, can be active or passive with a push/pull volume control. I've had a Hipshot detuner on it (for sale separately), and there's a slight mark on the back of the headstock where it's been (barely in shot in the last photo sorry!) but other than that it's a good as new. Despite the satin finish I don't think there's a mark on it. I've only gigged it a handful of times since everyone in the band seemed to be starting families just after I bought it, so it only gets used a couple of times a year now. No case or gig bag with these, so collection/meet up preferred please. 14. Pawner - Polar Bear Club. Perfect guitar tone, great chord sequence.
15. I had one of the very first Dirnt basses, and it didn't have a star on the neck plate so I wouldn't worry about that. But it was heavy. This one looks like it fell down the stairs!
16. Thanks, but while that's along similar lines, I don't need anywhere near that kind of volume, and ideally it would be much smaller.
17. Since picking up a Harley Benton ukulele bass I've been accompanying my father-in-law to the local ukulele club. I've been amplifying myself with a Bose Soundlink, but it's too quiet without a preamp before it, and i'm not keen on leaving £250 worth of speaker on a table with 8 pint glasses and folders of lyrics being thrown around, so I need an alternative. Battery powered isn't essential, but would be useful. I can't afford the Yamaha THR10 which would be my first choice, and the Microcube is almost as expensive, and is probably a bit bulky anyway. I don't need it to be loud, I want to be quieter than the ukuleles, I just want to hear myself and not worry about it taking up space or being kicked if I put it under the table or have a drink spilt on it. There seem to be plenty of options for guitar, Vox AC1, Orange Crush, etc, but what's good, inexpensive and small, for bass?
18. It arrived! Double boxed and well packaged. Opened it up and it was smaller than I was expecting. I've played a Kala and I've played the Tanglewood, my memory of the Tanglewood is hazy but I'm sure it's somewhere between the two. A couple of the frets are sharp and the finish is rough in places, but for £99 I have no complaints. The tuner works fine and the EQ has a decent range but full bass sounds best. I'll need to get used to careful finger placement, slightly over a fret and there's a nasty buzz, but correct placement gives a nice warm, deep sound. It's not loud enough for acoustic accompaniment but it's loud enough for solo acoustic practice. Very happy with it!
19. I ordered the Kahuna bass last night, looking forward to seeing it. It looks very similar to the Tanglewood version, I played one od those at the Birmingham Guitar Show, was tempted then, but these are half the price. Not sure if I'll play it live or if it will be a novelty thing, but it will be useful for quiet late night practice anyway.
