1. For what its worth, first I play Zep's Moby Dick not plugged in and then plugged in. Covers a fair part of the neck and open string sound.
2. Wonderful girl that Katie... Happily I have an understanding wife also. In fact the point at which I though we have to get married (we lived together for a couple of years first, so the novelty had had a chance to wear off) was when she explained its was just fine buying all the "classic" original vinyl LP's I wanted, whatever they cost, because "they will only cost you more when you want them later on"... How cool is that??
3. I used to have one of these and don't know where it went, lovely amp. Best of luck with the sale... Have a bump on me...
4.
Was he from Birmingham then? Please... somebody get my humour
Ah no...a southerner...
5. Many moons ago I played in a wonderful band ruined by the lead guiarist (and 50% songwriter) saying "were not ready, were not ready..." of course, if I'd realised that 90 minutes of our own material was more than enough... Like everyone else says, if you have 30-45 minutes of material just get on with it, nothing will improve you faster !
6.
I'm another one who finds Rotos fantastic when new, but they don't half go off quick. +1 for Elites.
I've found the same problem with Roto's won't touch them now..
7. Sorry I really honestly don't want to sound like a miserable twat but I just feel like saying this stuff kind of sucks... learn some songs and get with a good teacher. M
+1000 ...yep, seems pointless to me as well.
8. I have a Geddy AND small pinkies.... Its no heavier on the shoulders than any other Jazz, but has the narrowest thinnest neck you'll ever see on a Jazz, its really fast. IMO its a wonderful instrument. Recommend it highly.
9. The earliest ones were definately black paint. Trust me I bought one new in about 81
10. Stoopid price. Did anyone look at his other auctions? They have a Joe Strummer relic Tele with the worst relic job ever, looks like the poly been removed with an angle grinder !!
11. Layla - Derek & Dominos - just cos the chords are nice gives you something to play with The Imposter - Elvis costello from Get Happy ! More or less anything Bootsy does...
12. Hi Karl Congrats on restarting ! I had a similar lay off, "only" 15 years in my case. You'll find this place friendly helpful and non judgemental on any questions even those you might think are silly. By the way, try Line 6 for a practice combo. T'aint perfect but prices seem OK for the flexibility they have. Best Chop
13.
wow, it's already happening, and in a 'love' thread? bye bye *waves goodbye to thread*
We all need to chill out an go "Om..Om..." a lot. To be serious for a moment, and in case my last post was misconstrued. I think all forms of music are valid, whether I “get them” or not. Generally speaking, I don’t much enjoy Jazz and regard jazz funk as pointless. As I said, I don’t really "get" Jazz but love funk, and think combining the two is a bit like mixing chocolate and fish for lunch. That doesn’t mean I’m right it doesn’t mean I’m wrong, it’s not even a question of taste, it’s just a matter of opinion. What I do enjoy is the range of (sometimes) passionately held opinions on this forum and the humour about it, whether or not I agree with them. Having enjoyed the I Hate Jazz thread and seeing the havoc that caused, we get a thread called I Love Jazz, which immediately starts the same arguments from a different direction, I think its great !! Having said all that, and just to prove I don’t know what I’m talking about, the most powerful (whatever that means) music I’ve ever seen was Miles Davies at the Festival Hall a year or so before he died, which although Jazz was really hairs up on the back of the neck jaw dropping. So what I’m saying is enjoy, treat all this as fun, and keep an open mind Love to all, whatever you like ! Chop
14. We've had "I hate Jazz" and all the grief that went with that thread, now we have "I Love Jazz", including one post extolling the virtues of Jazz funk(surely the most pointless musical form of all ) !!! I love this forum. Its the sense that no one is taking themselves too seriously. Wheres my beret and beard...
15.
Im with you on most of that. I feel fine about using a pick. its not cheating IMO. But, i do feel to get a proper sound, one i really like i need to use fingers. Its the sound of pick on the D an dG i dont like. I feel they sound too thin
See your point but I ended up with a style with pick that plays D&G bit further toward the neck. Yes it would have been less hassle using fingers !! I will keep working on fingers... ...must keep working with fingers....
16. I'm mostly a pick player because I started that way. Other than tonally I don't think it limits me, I find I can play fast as you like, or damp strings with right hand, but it seems almost like cheating.... I work on playing the same lines with fingers and mostly can but it isn't as natural, so live revert to pick if in doubt. Can't do Hit me with your rhythm stick speed with fingers ! At the back of my mind is the idea that "to be a real bass player you should play with your fingers". No logic to that ! Anybody else feel this?
17. You won't find any one friendlier or more knowledgeable than Stuart in "The Guitar Shop" in Friar Street Worcsetser. SUPPORT THIS GUY ! He's not long started this (small) place, and yes mostly guitars, but lots of good second hand stuff and is running it because "there has to be enough people fed up with EvilBay to make a decent second hand shop a goer...yes...? NB I have no financial involvemnt in his business and he don't know I'm writing this. I just feel quite strongly that if you find a shop how they ought to be it ought to get bigged up so others can support it.
18.
I own 2 basses currently, soon to be 3 but I know what you're saying. It seems wrong to have basses that aren't played and I almost get frustrated at having to chose what to play. I don't think I'd ever want more than 3 at any one time. Ideally, I love the idea of owning just one bass and watching it get battle scars throughout the years. It would somehow make it even more valuable to me. Like an old friend. Or your penis. Not sure how practical this is though. The trouble I have is that I'm to lazy to sell things. Just seems eay to stick it in a corner. I also hate the feeling of regret. Would hate to sell something to then see it changing hands for serious money in years to come. I've also promised the lady that 3 is my limit.
- Your penis has battle scars?
19. Sacre Bleu ! Congrats on that, well worth the wait
20. I have one & wouldn't sell it. I agree with Slaphappy I think, £450 - £500, but they are wonderful basses.
21. Chop

Ive got my 9

Not my thing either, but congrats on your purchase, although I wouldn't know whether to play it or dance on it !! Looks pretty hernia inducing.
22. Gents, thanks for all the input ! - Its frustrating though, I just wanted a case to make my kid happy. I thought it would be a simple job and they can't have much value, at the end of the day its a box with a Fender logo on. Or rather, I didn't think at all about value for old guitar cases. When I last bought a second hand version of The Six Stringed Work of Beelzebub (mid 80's) it was literally "oh, you'll want a case, hang on...we have half a dozen of these old Fender cases which one do you want, we'll throw it in. Thats nice, this one has the original neck tag from a '72 Thinline..." If I knew then what I know now !
23.
good luck Chop - if you get an original one, they are getting to silly prices these days, presumably being bought by the collectors. I've got a moulded one that I bought for my strat a couple of years ago - I think that was cheap(ish) and i paid 50 quid for it. i'll keep an eye out though
Blimey, really ?? Thanks for looking anyhow. I was expecting to have to pay £30 or £40...
24. No, I know, its not bass stuff...my son is 10 and has got very into playing six stringed electric things. He's been at it for a year, has a Strat copy he loves but he has a gig bag & I want to keep him encouraged. Any music skills are better than no music skills.... we can turn him into a bassist later. I'd love to get him an old second hand rectangular Fender case for a Strat, with Fender logo. I had one in the 70's and that would be the kind of thing. Locks & hinges must work. Anyone got anything that needs a good home? Any ideas? Best Chop
25. Supported Gerry McAvoy band Half Moon Herne Hill Erm...thats it
