- and a big Hi from me...
6.
+1 from me Toasted. I have quite a bit of valve hifi gear, and NOS components and ideally valves are a key part of what makes the sound. I almost hesitate to ask, but can someone explain what a Russion Big Muff - or indeed a Big Black Muff - do to the sound?? - Never thought I'd write that...
Bump.. I'm genuinely curious...
7.
Audio grade components have their own sounds. To make a "vintage" circuit sound like a pedal made in "vintage" times, you really need NOS components.
+1 from me Toasted. 8. Been listening to Elvis Costello, love Bruce Thomas' playing and XTC's Colin Moulding, inventive geezer - as a side issue, if you were XTC wouldn't you be upset at how little success they had compared to Kaiser Cheifs, who seem to me to be a complete rip off of the style? Just a thought...
9. Absolutely gorgeous, must have cost a fortune..
10.
Agree 100% with OG & Alex. Reggae always has the accent on the 3. That's how Stewart Copeland explains it anyway.
EXACTLY how I was going to describe it. Funk is "on the one", reggae is the third beat Chop
11.
haha, that is the very bass i ripped of when making my Geddy Custom. The electronics colours are perfect. G
Thanks for that..its a famous young bass ! And I haven't had it long, but it is stunning sounding, fingers or pick, dubby or Ricky like. I followed your custom respray, great job and colour. Don't think I'd have had the patience or bottle for it. Chop
12. Hi all Apologies if many of you have seen this before. I've just bought this from another forum member (cheers Dave) & I can't claim this is an original post as it appeared on the Basstalk forum. But its gorgeous with the Black / chrome two tone John East pre and a pearlescent scratchplate.... so I thought I'd share. - and sounds absolutely stunning even with the fender strings on it
Oohhhh, The blue '62 Jazz is gorgeous, so the 4003 for that matter. Nice harem.
+1 for the Jazz, its lovely
14. I've always been more interested in the overall dynamics of a song and how what the bass plays can influence that, i.e when to do very little and when to be busier for effect. Until the age of about 28 I was just interested in pop and rock. I think if I went back to my early teens I'd try to get an appreciation of a wider range of music and how the songs hang together in each field. Its a cliche, but its not what you play but what you don't and I'm sure my "pop" basslines would have been better / more interesting with a better knowledge of say how funk or jazz bassplayers work with the drummer. That doesn't mean technically cleverer, just notes placed differently and in "better" timing. Does this sound like crap?
15.
Oh, I haven't tried ferrets yet.... That sounds interesting.......
Its the teeth and the...vigour of them and the...furry bendability you know....
16.
There's always the thought that a vintage bass in really good condition is like that because it's hardly ever been played. And if it's not being played it may be because it's crap. I'd put money on this Mustang sounding terrific ..
So would I !!
17. Just curious. See, I know there are many that love that very distressed vintage vibe but if I were buying a vintage bass I'd want it in better cosmetic nick than that. (Not critisising the bass, just thinking out loud.) I happen to think the price suggested is about right too, in that condition, just saying it wouldn't be for me. And I wouldn't want it resprayed, I'd wait for a tidyer one. How many of us would prefer that kind of vibe, IF the price was right? Or am I just a heathen?
18. I quite like the way this turned into...an instruction thread. - I thought it was a given that you weren't allowed to play bass in public unless you were into some kind of ferret molesting or sheep bothering pastime? Ped, PM coming over.
19. Eh Oop all Don't know if you'd call these under rated, but how about Bruce Thomas of the Attractions, more or less anything off Get Happy ! +1 for Trevor Bolder of the Spiders - and Phil Lynott ?? I'm convinced much of his stuff was written bass first
20.
The top is arched and the back has more contouring than a standard. http://www.fender.com/products/search.php
Thanks for that
21. Mr Bassman... This is a pretty bass, but I've been out of playing since about '90 (kids house wife etc, how did that happen?), and getting back into it I've discovered many differnet Fender models than I knew before ! - Can you tell me, how does an Aerodyne differ from MIA standard or is it just a cosmetic thing? Thanks for the advice Chop
22. Hi everyone Back on Basstalk on a forum thread somewhere, someone mentioned in passing a shop in Bath that was happy to match web prices for kit. Trouble is I can't remember the shop or the forum. These are useful to know anyway, I'd prefer to support a shop where I can. Any ideas what the shop was / is? I'm after a Line 6 Studio 100 practice amp. Mucho Gracias !! Chop
23. Nice basses. Is the Geddy MIA or MIJ? I was thinking of a MIJ Geddy, bit concerned about lack of punch interesting you commented on it. Can you elaborate? Best
24. +2 from me. I had as my second ever bass (first was a Shergold Marathon) the John Taylor type thro neck Pro 2 SB, double pick up, and I think I paid about £140 for it. This was before Duran Duran. What sticks in mind was the build quality and playability of the thing. Still don't know why I sold it...stunning value
