1. White pearloid or Tort for me
2. He played the right thing at the right time, not showy for the sake of it but played whats appropriate for the song. Isn't that the mark of a great bass played in a band?
3.
Wise words right there ^^
If its the right bass, option 2 every time
4. Great new name, very amusing
5. Hi All Thought it might be interesting to find out how gigs have been cocked up by ill advised attempts to manage image in the past... here goes Mid 80's got a gig at one of the proper Oxford Uni's student unions (won't say which one). We were a 4 piece band doing 90% our own stuff, in a 60's / 70's rock stylie. No synths ! As this was a good gig for us with a planned 300 paying students we thought we ought to try to look the part....so decided group raybans would be a suitable look for the first time. Now, soundcheck with the lights on, great. Gig starts, lights drop, can't see a bloody thing. Blunder across stage to warm greeting applause, Kick over bass on stand, kick mike off stage, miss cues for first number. Cool image over, Raybans on floor immediately ! Interestingly, the guitarist at the time thinks it ended up as the best gig we played, I thought it was one of the worst. What have you got horribly wrong? Chop
6.
The SB-1000 reissue is a tad pricey though, £1200 at Denmark Street prices. On the 'bay at the moment is this SB-900 with a BIN of £450. Same as an SB-1000 but with two pickups. Pete.
I had EXACTLY that SB900 in the early 80's and loved it to bits, wonderful bass to play and sound. If I could buy that again tomorrow but not via EBAY I would. Strong recommendation from me... Chop

Morning all

Hi All Well, I lasted 2 weeks on Bassworld and about a month on Basstalk before the rugs were pulled...any mention of a Jonah effect will not be appreciated... Anyway, hi to all again, lets hope we're here to stay. I've been really impressed with how this group of wandering individuals appears to stick together as a pack whatever you want to call us, and stays friendly and helpful. I hope I can contribute something over the months to come. Background: Was playing for about 12 years up to age of 30, covers bands and original pop / rock stuff around London. No prog, no metal, I like a tune. Then got married moved, had kids sold gear (shock horror ! ) and not played for 12 years (no idea how that happened, really missed it). Now getting back into it and looking for an early 70's Jazz - much like everyone else seems to be. Used to have a Jazz and an Aria Pro 2 through 8 x 10 Trace Elliot gear, Fender Bassman amp. Totally impractical now ! So I'll be bashing the bass for sale forums, cash waiting. Always been a pick player (so is Chris Squire, he says defensively) and intend to learn to use my fingers this time round. Anyway, thats the heads up, hope to speak to you all soon Best Chop
