  1. My super clean, owned from new, gigged for ten years Yamaha BBG5S that I sold a couple of years ago as I just don't play fives anymore. I loved that bass and it was the only bass I owned in those ten years of gigging.
  2. If we're doing flashbacks. Yamaha BBG5S, through a 2x15 & 4x12 bi-amped rig. Sometimes added a guitar amp as well using an Akai Unibass. When bigger was better 😂😂.
  3. For all those that say shim material has no effect on the tone, I can hear the difference between the suits of playing cards used. Clubs, Hearts, and Diamonds are fine but Spades really shine when you dig in.
  4. Bass gurning from last Saturday.
  5. "You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave." 😉
  6. Lemonade - Beyonce
  7. Atmosphere - Joy Division / Russ Abbott
  8. Relearning Nite Klub by The Specials. I haven't played it for four years or so and was struggling a bit until I found this YouTube video. It's helping it all fall into place again. This is a fantastic fun bassline to play by Sir Horace.
  9. I don't know what you mean. M'lud, I have on two occasions partaken in the purchasing of musical instruments. Both of these said purchases have been to further investigate musical avenues new to myself. Without these instruments my musical studies of new avenues could have been brought to abrupt end. It would therefore be entirely justified to make the assumption that both of these purchases were made purely in the interests of educational needs, and not merely cos they looked perdy... ... Maybe
  10. So in a roundabout way, as the only song mentioned was released in '84, are you saying the 80s was the best decade for music? 😉
  11. Boxer Beat - JoBoxers
  12. Lump - Presidents of the USA
  13. Shit Liszt - L7
  14. The Upstairs Room - The Cure
  15. Yes it is. Now sit down, shut up and do what you're told. 😁
  16. ^^^ Six string piccolo bass innit 😉
  17. A guitar tuned down an octave is a bass, a bass tuned up an octave is a piccolo bass. You hear that guitarists? We will own all the tunings, ALL THE TUNINGS. Mwah ha ha haaa.
  18. I like this idea. It's like a less dangerous, less aggressive, less likely to take chunks out of your bass while trying to remove a couple of fingers version of a router. Could be slow if a lot of wood needs removing but sharp chisel first to nearly the right place, then finish off with the drum sander equipped drill.
  19. I saw Type O Negative at Donington and Pete Steele played a doublebass on a strap like a regular bass and it didn't look absurb, such was his stature at the time. Absolutely huge but not in a fat way.
  20. I don't have a degree but I can rescue a mean rubber brick from the bottom of a swimming pool whilst wearing pyjama bottoms if needed.
  21. What's Your Name - Lynyrd Skynyrd (Don't tell him Pike)
  22. Packin' a Rod - L7
  23. The Squier and Fender VIs are definitely bass guitars, strung EADGBE as a standard guitar but an octave lower, as is the Eastwood and all other 'Bass VIs'. Not to say you can't tune them differently with suitable strings but they are intended to be, and leave the factory as, a bass guitar.
  24. That tailpiece definitely looks off. I assume the bridge is angled for intonation, if not that's way off as well.
  25. I know what you mean, and I do to an extent feel that way, but, there were no used ones available and I was considering buying new. Then this came up a few hundred pounds less than a new 'normal' one. So on the one hand it cost me less than a standard one, which I wouldn't worry about dinging, so I shouldn't care if this gets a ding. On the other hand it's more of a collectors piece so maybe should be boxed up and not played. I'm fairly careful with my basses, my main gigging basses have yet to be dinged, and I feel a bass is for playing anyway so this one gets used. As it's only used at home I'm not overly concerned and I doubt these will ever be worth big money anyway. If a cheap used one popped up would I buy it and sell it this to avoid the dilemma? Maybe.
