How about a basschat Fender special edition? The first dudepit special edition Steve Barr organised was a Fender - off the top of my head I'm pretty sure it was a sonic blue jazz with MHS. It don't cost much more than a stock MIA and the run was only 25-30 or thereabouts.

Purchased a sweet jazz bass from Keir recently - as always, he was a great fellow to deal with. If anyone is reading this prior to dealing with Keir, rest assured that he's one of those Basschatters that you can trust 100%.
to confuse matters further it's worth making the distinction between CIJ - made for the domestic market to a very high standard, and MIJ - made for export and regarded as lesser quality, some are basswood etc. having said that many MIJ's are cracking instruments. it's such an intangible thing: try before you buy innit
That's nonsense, there's no difference between MIJ and CIJ. Recent instruments are all marked CIJ, prior to that they were all marked MIJ.
Yep.. it's a PITA but.. wether he sells it for that price is another thing. civilian_project.. any chance you can let us know the ID of the buyer? It would be interesting to see if he does this a lot...
Yes, I'd like to know as well - I'd like to block him/her from bidding on any basses I put on ebay. Can't be done with these TOM types.

Does a refret harm the value of a vintage/rare bass?
BB2000 replied to neepheid's topic in Repairs and Technical
Depends on the bass as well. For example a refret or any other maintainence work (necessary due to use of the instrument) on a Wall doesn't seem to reduce it's value at all (increases it if anything). As a guide, if the value of the bass is greater that a new (and probably better made/playing!) comparable model, then originality matters (since it's essentially a collectors instrument). -
Nice 62 RI Jazz bass but whiffy feedback???
BB2000 replied to Clarky's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Yeah, but it looks like this guy has contrived over 30 feedbacks so you wouldn't be protected that way. The fact he has 'bought' feedback (from a no longer registered seller of eBay feedback) alone looks dodgy to me Just counted - of his 30 or so feedbacks (all bar one are as a buyer), 22 are in last few weeks from 'no longer registered' users
I don't think feedback as a buyer counts, only those received as a seller. Later: Here's the new policy - Why might my payments be held? PayPal will hold payments in transactions where the vast majority of seller fraud occurs. Here are the most common instances in which a payment may be held: * You have been on eBay less than six months and sell an item above £50. * You have a feedback score of less than 98% and sell an item above £50. * More than 5% of your transactions result in dissatisfied buyers*. * You have an average Detailed Seller Rating (DSR) of 4.5 or less. * You have received less than 20 Detailed Seller Ratings. * You are listing your item in a higher-risk category. -

BB2000 replied to Clarky's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
If new sellers have received less that 20 positive feedbacks (as a seller) paypal holds on to any payments made to them for 21 days, unless the buyer provides positive feedback before then, so a bidder should be pretty safe. -
Personally I'd never send ANY hard case through any postal system unless it was protected in some way, usually in a cardboard box of some sort.
I've been on the receiving end of your parcels. Took an eight hour shift to open the last one... If Carlsberg packed basses they'd be called GreenKing.
Mine has a lock on each latch?
Looking at the design it looks as if a removable locking mechanism should slide in the side of each latch?
Case. The Sadowsky case is good, the Fender case is awesome
I just took delivery of a Precision today from someone on the forum, who just stuck a shipping label to the case rather than bother himself to wrap or box it. It arrived split, and since there seems to be no way to lock it whatever mechanism was there to do so has presumably broken off, so perhaps the cases are not so sturdy as they first appear. I'm pretty sure a hiscox would have survived the journey.

Can I butt into this thread to ask a quick question? I don't recognize the type of strap holder on these new basses. Is it supposed to be used with a strap lock system, and if so, which one.

The 'How high is your action?' thread - get involved!

Distance from strings (EADG) to PUP poles would be real interesting as well, and whether bass is active or passive. Off to find a ruler... -
I have been misunderstanding, I think. This is a current model or re-issue not an original 70s/80s one? BB
Be careful of anyone offering you a 70s BB3000 - they were only introduced in 83/84 (a year before the BB5000). It was the BB1200 and BB2000 which were introduced in the late 70s. (By the way there is an enormous amount of bullshit surrounding the BB3000 regarding who designed it, who it's named after etc. - there must be a dozen bassists who claim it as their own.) There's never been a re-issue of the BB3000 because (barring short periods) they've never been out of production, although I think they were only available from Yamaha Korea for a while (complete with crap active electronics, ropey pain job and weird bridge). All the other BB series fell by the wayside a long time ago (discounting the recent BB4XX,6XX,7XX) which was a shame, since they were amongst the best basses ever built. Especially the BB2000, which IMHO had a better finish and more durable hardware than the BB3000. The BB3000MA doesn't bear much resemblance to a BB3000, although they are fine basses if you can overlook the inlays and decal (what were they thinking?). The only design change done to the BB3000 over the years as far as I'm aware of is that they starting rolling the necks at some point, I don't know when. This BB3000 dates from about 2003 (I think - I might have bought it as early as 2001). It should have been obvious it wasn't an 80s model by the case (they had a brick outhouse of a case back then - unlike the 'presentation' case they supply now) and the CE sticker on the headstock, which dates any guitar post '95. Anyway, this is a stock Japanese BB3000, similar to that which you could have bought 20 years ago, and which you can still buy from Yamaha today. Book price is 220,000 yen with a street price in Japan of 171,000 yen (which is the same price they were 25 years ago!). Importing from Japan would cost you about £1400. Thanks for the interest shown - if there's any serious interest make an offer.

I've just listed a BB3000 in the for sale section, if anyone is interested.

Yamaha BB3000 bought new in Japan - and has never been used. Alder body, maple/mahogany through neck, ebony fingerboard, black metallic finish. Complete with the original Yamaha fitted case. Note that all these photo's bar the last were taken with flash, in normal lighting the metallic finish is very subtle. Open to offers.
