I just got a Trace Elliot GP11 MKV, and need a little help
Musky replied to Banana's topic in Amps and Cabs
British Audio Service is the place for Trace spares, though you might be better off looking for non original pats that don't look out off place. As for specs - http://www.gbaudio.co.uk/data/te1115.htm Trace usually put dates on the PCBs. Edit: Oh, and you'll probably find the graphic and EQ switches are pretty flakey if they work at all. -
I take it you won it then? I can't even find the auction so I don't know if it's finished yet!

Vox venue 100? "1984 - With the help of outside contracted design and manufacture, the Vox Venue series started production. The Venue series soon comprised of 50 and 100 Watt combo amps for guitar and bass and keyboards. Also a GT100 model with a high frequency horn for the acoustic guitar was made. A short-lived P.A. venue based design was introduce giving two models, the Venue PA 120 and PA 200. The Venue range was well received and used by groups of the 1980s including the Style Council and the Smiths." Not particularly valuable or sought after I'm afraid.

If you want to save some cash to could try a more permanent repair - http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?s=&sho...st&p=224654 Synaesthesia reckoned lens cleaning tissue soaked in PVA works as well. Won't hurt to try...

I used to use a Bassman 135 with a ODB3 or Marshall Guvnor regularly at a rehearsal. Like skankdelvar says, very warm. They don't really have a lot of tone shaping and using the EQ on the pedals didn't help hugely. Come to think of it I used to use a Boss EQ pedal as well and I was never particularly happy with the sound. No problems with feedback with either of the distortions, but I wasn't pushing either of them very hard. Never used it in a gig situation, but it was fine as far as rehearsal volumes went.

I know noirbass on here loves his and would definitely recommend them. http://www.jhs.co.uk/foreignlegion.html

Must get a Rickenbacker 4003! Where in the UK?
Musky replied to jim_at's topic in General Discussion
Exclusivity or some crap. Rickenbacker have utterly failed to understand the principles of supply and demand.
I think John Hall is al too aware of the principles of supply and demand. When he put up their prices 18 months ago he cited the need to manage demand and 'help create a better balance between demand and capacity'. Doesn't seem to have made much difference though. -
That's something of a result if you do get to keep the bass. Maybe I should start bidding on a few obvious fakes.

Some have, like this non export Jazz. My jap squier silver series p does too

Bummer. I think you're right to be cynical - I don't remember the 75RIs having those tuners with the domed tops. Do remember squiers having them though.
Your best bet is to look at the 'For Sale' section - there are alot of bargains to be had there! Not entirely sure about the POD - PA speaker, though I would suggest a proper bass cab would be best as it will be better at handling the lows.
Depends on the bass cab and the PA speaker! M4L666 - I'm assuming it's a powered cab you've got if you're using it with a POD. You could indeed use a line out from the pre amp section of a head, but I'm not sure that would be any improvement - the POD's pretty good at replicating some of the amp it models. I'm not quite sure what you mean by 'vice versa with the POD' - buy a speaker and use it with the POD? If that's the case you'd be looking at either a powered speaker (which mostly limits you to other PA cabs) or buying a power amp and speaker. Chris is right about looking at the for sale section. Personally I might look at something like the Hartke HA3500 with a bass cab (and use the POD for any tone shaping in front of it if you really need it). That's just me though - I have an irrational dislike of rack systems with separate power amps.
On the affiliate subject. If you type in Bass Chat on google the first thing that comes up is Alex's forum , how does he do that, I don't know. You need to ask him. And it's down to marketing, as some of you are aware Alex has published adds on Bass Player, Bass Guitar Magazine, and he's giving away a cab in a competition and sending one other for people to try out. It really depends on how you market it and how much you want to be heard. As for ACG I became aware shortly after I joined bass chat on the general section when someone mentioned their interest so I think the OP just overlooked them, easy to do when you have ten thousand brands coming out every month. As for they basses they are not my cup of tea
So it does - I don't think that's down to Alex though. Basschat is only mentioned twice on the front page in text that isn't a link, and the other mention is only part of a very short sentence. I think google just quotes the blurb from Alex's forum because it's a bit longer, so google just sees that as giving more of a flavour of the site.
Well... I think if you want to clone a Mammoth for yourself, nobody's going to know are they? But making money out of cloning it for other people is poor form. You can say "It's a Fuzz Face" all day, but a fuzz face doesn't have four knobs. Why aren't you producing a two-knob fuzz if you're just using the Fuzz Face circuit? Because you're not, you're cloning a ZVex pedal. Nobody here who's producing Woolly Mammoth clones would be doing it if the Woolly Mammoth didn't exist, clearly. So saying it's based on a Fuzz Face fuzz doesn't make reproducing the Mammoth OK. IMHO.
Electrically, it is a fuzz face. Not an exact clone, granted, but nevertheless it uses the fuzz face circuit just as much as the dozens of other pedals that use it. But I agree with what you're saying about the interest in the circuit for use with bass being down to the Mammoth. It's got a near legendary reputation ( with near legendary prices - is now the time to mention veblen goods again?). Zvex are in the enviable position of charging as much as they do because of Zak's reputation for innovation, build quality and unique cosmetics. The pedals come with kudos and a resale value to match. And that's is why I think it would be wrong for anyone to attempt trading off that reputation That doesn't mean that others can't play about with a circuit in the public domain though - just call it something totally unrelated to Zvex. Al's adding a blend to his and for all we know may experiment with the odd component value, just as Zak has done. And Al, I don't think you're remotely morally corrupt.

light solvent/cleaner to remove gaffa tape residue off my bass?
Musky replied to riff raff's topic in General Discussion
My '68 Rick was covered head to foot in gaffa for 25 years (I didn't like fireglo! ). Came off without a mark just using the tiniest amounts of paint thinner. -
I'm still defending what I said, in that in that at least in the genres I'm interested in, clothing is not that important. Look at what the Arctic Monkeys, Blur, Sonic Youth, Pearl Jam, and countless others wear on stage.
I saw Sonic Youth playing at the Croydon Underground in 1986. I also saw them on George street earlier in the day, strangely enough looking somewhat smarter. Maybe they had just been to a nice restaurant or just felt like the need for a change of clothes. Who knows. On a side note, a mate supported The Deviants long ago. He said they turned up with their scuzzy leather jackets and ripped jeans neatly packed on coat hangers in dry cleaning bags.

I think in part it's due to the nature of the affiliates forums. Alex's forum kind of dominates the listings of recent threads on the home page at the moment, and so all the other affiliate forms spend less time highlighted on the front page. I've got to say I was well aware of the pre-amps (even though I don't really have too much interest in active electronics), but the Graft basses are a new one on me. Maybe I'll have to spend more time browsing the sub forums. Edit: I've just realised that isn't right - Barefaced Bass has it's own sub forum, so it's not dominating the Basschat Affiliates forum. Still, AGC are up against a dozen other sub forums in that section.
But they don't make signature basses. They don't need to-the Stingray sells itself.
Although it has to be said that they've sold a lot better since RHCP became famous.
You could also argue the converse in that you are acknowleding the original pedal design without implying it is the same unit
Possibly, though I do think acknowledging Zvex is bordering on trademark infringement. In this particular case the original pedal is the fuzz face, which Zak has made a very minor modification to. It could have been called the Bass Fuzz Visage, or something equally dumb, but instead it references Zvex. A small point perhaps, but I have seen pedals clearly linking themselves to Zvex designs with rather Myrold-like hand painted finishes - a step too far IMHO. None of this reflects on anyone building themselves their own clone, just anyone building for commercial purposes.
If there is no patent then it's (legally) ok to clone, if any of the makers came up with something really innovative they’d be able to obtain a patent for it. Can’t copyright a circuit board (I’m pretty sure) Can’t use the trademarked name mind. Yes, don’t make a tonne of them, give them the same name and try to flog them off on the cheap (though if your manufacturing process is able to produce cheaper products then all props to you). Hell, if I had enough skill I’d try and clone a Fender Jazz and make one myself,
+1. The Woolly Mammoth is essentially the same as a fuzz face. Zak had no qualms in cloning the pedal, and I'm pretty sure if fuzz faces were made available with the original circuit again he wouldn't be taking the WM off the market. Trading off Zvex's reputation is an entirely different thing though. The reason people are willing to pay a lot of money for his pedals is the reputation he has built up for creating innovative, hand built and individual pedals. To my mind the only issue with this clone is calling it a 'fuzzy elephant', which is clearly relying on Zvex's reputation. Some might consider it a purely descriptive term to let people know what they can expect, but I think it's 'borrowing' from a lot of effort that Zak has put in to develop his company. Business isn't just about designing and building a product.

What a twat. This was a guitarist and the singer? The worst of both worlds.
This could be a really good thread. How about adding The Waterats, kings Cross, London and the Boileroom in Guildford, Surrey. I also think 600 capacity is a bit much for The West End Centre in Aldershot. More like 200 - 300 hundred.
Oooh... contoversial! http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...p;hl=water+rats The problem with a lot of gigs in London, or central London at least, is that few of the venues do in house promotion so you can be dealing with promoters at the same venue that have wildly different attitudes to bands. Nights at Water Rats are mostly promoted in house by Monto, though several nights a week the venue seems to be hired out. Personally I'd prefer not to deal with Monto, though others appear not to share my reservations.
