ignoring the tosser replies, Hutch is a brilliant player. As a long time Bonnie raitt fan I've got to hear how huthch's playing has developed over the years. Live, he has a perfect tone and despite what was said above, every bass change resulted in a different tone that ws just right for the song. His fretless playing is sublime.
+1 ...not just because he's one of my top inspirations for bass but he has to be defended on the bass changing comment. I've seen him play live a few times but watch a Bonnie Raitt video if you don't believe me. He goes from a Modulus to a Washburn electro-acoustic to a fretless or whatever because he's responding to the song and its needs for a different texture. The result is noticeable and complimentary.

Big THUMBS UP for this bass. Someone buy it now! I'm so impressed with my recently acquired SR505 that I'm after an SR506 if I can find one. I'd really like an SR500 too, but I don't use a four string live right now, so being a non priority it would have to be a cheapie in less good condition than your beauty. Good luck with the sale!

Great name for a band ...The Global Mods lol All sounds good Ped 'n Kiwi.

Such a thing as a lightweight combo as loud as my current setup?
Born 2B Mild replied to Delberthot's topic in Amps and Cabs
is the 1212L a 4ohm? If it is I'd of thought it could go damn loud. -
If you are considering a change why not get a seperate preamp and a digi power section that will do 2 ohms?
Mmmm. I believe the Shuttle can work as a pre-amp. What sort of wonga is needed to add such a power amp? I've got a feeling I'm not going to like the answer! Edited to say a big thanks to all other suggestions, which I have found most useful, whilst I way up the options. I'm not sure how soon I might want to change things now, but I intend to go on researching it.

I do like my Shuttle, it's the best (and loudest) amp I've ever had, but there are times when I'd like to use three 8ohm cabs. If I replaced it for an amp head that could do 2ohms, what should it be? The lighter the better. Your suggestions are sought.

Jakesbass, Jakesbass And Thrice Jakesbass

Jake, come to Harrogate for a weekend and get free B&B at my place!!! -
I'd love to have lessons on this stuff. I don't work well on voluntary learning, so deadlines and embarrassment help my motivation. Anyone in Harrogate hot on this stuff? (Sorry for a slight hijack of this thread)

I've had, from fellow BC members, a 1210R & two Bergo 1x12. All were great, but have now moved on (to other BC members). I'd really like an 8 ohm 1212L to sit on top of my Eden D115, but can't afford a new one at the mo. Interestingly, on the Schroeder website, there are comments to the effect that you don't need a 15" as their 12"s have a lot of bottom ...then they sell 15" cabs!
The nut Slots can be cut down to close to zero to assist the hard work of 'fretting' at that end. The whole idea of the correct nut height is to clear the first fret so now that it's not there you can go lower. Hope this helps - can't see any benefit in shimming at this stage .
Good tip. I'll try that too.
Pc recording is great and this unit can also be a front end for DAW programs, but this is a dedicated recording unit, and unless you have a high speced super quite pc pref not running internet or anything else, and dedicated top notch flat sounding soundcard i would prefer this unit. Pcs have endless gliches and data loss etc, this will not. Of course there is a mac, but they are around £800. TO BE FAIR PC RECORDING is great, with endless possibliltiys, but take an age to set up and keep them running glitch free is not always easy. I have worked in recording studios as an engineer, and the problems that happen using pc recording is awful and sometimes mind blowing to say the least. For no fuss H.Q. recording direct to CD this really takes some beating.
I think that's very well put. I use both PC and hard disc recorder. But for keeping focussed on the music, in a basic record and mix way, I think a dedicated unit like this is just right. And, it gets me out of buying (my son) a new Mac or PC

J-East Retro *Sold*Sold*Sold*
Born 2B Mild replied to Born 2B Mild's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
PMd! I will take the J-East off your hands!!! If it's still for sale! Regards Rich (Was just about to fork out for a new one.... )
Still for sale? The electrodes are still wet from just putting the post up! I guess that'll do nicely. Sold! -
Currently gracing my 25 year old feckless Fender Jazz which doesn't get much of a look in these days since I discovered the joys of six & five string basses. The Jazz used to be Richard Sinclair's (I added the Retro) and I hope never have to sell it. This pre-amp completely changed the sound of the bass, especially in the mids & mwah department. Although it's the standard chrome 3-stacked knob unit (New= £195), all told, there's 9 knobs/selectors, so you can imagine the tone range possible. I'm GASing for a 1x12 or 2x12 8ohm lightweight cab and am struggling for gear funds at the mo, as I'm about to acquire a new sixer. Hence a trade would be ideal. However, I'd sell for £99 delivered. Great condition, and will post a photo later.

I'm signed up for BCTV too. BTW, is there a Basschat Myspace?
I've got an MRS-1266 (earlier version of what you're looking at - 12 tracks not 16) - had it a few years now and it's been great. Managed to get some good results, it has good on-board effects and is pretty intuitive. The learning curve is not too steep and once you master the basics it's easy. Recording is pretty straight forward and you don't need to be a rocket scientist to get to grips with the editing and mixing side of things either. I would imagine that the newer version has some better components (bigger HD, better connectivity etc) so if the price is within your budget it provides a good alternative to the Computer based approach IMO. If you've got further specific questions drop me a PM...
Cheers. I'm thinking of it for my son. I've already got a similar machine ...the Yamaha AW16G, but rather used his own!

Lapel mics - advice please for an enthusiasts conference
Born 2B Mild replied to Born 2B Mild's topic in Accessories and Misc
What about hiring a decent pair? Also be aware of P.A. volume and feedback issues with lapel mic's - it can be awkward to get the levels you need.
Mmm. I just hope I can sort the feedback bit out in situ. I have just got a price on a week's hire for a pair of Seinheisers: including VAT & Insurance £230. If I can beat that for an actual purchase, I hope to persuade the treasurer to let us buy rather than hire, on the basis that it will save money over two or more of our conferences. And I'm assuming that within the price I get all the gubbins to make 'em work! -
Nah man, fifty apiece should get you something pretty decent. Look at Shure, Sennheiser and AKG, three brands which all do good and reasonably-priced stuff. There's other brands too, but I don't know as much about them although they may have some cool stuff.
Thanks, I'll start Googling for a reputable supplier. -
What's your budget?
Is £100 for both too cheap? Maybe more if it can be shown to save money over two conferences.
