1. USA standards of any sort of recent vintage always seem to sit from £400 up on EBay. Some fetch over £500 depending on colour, case, pickup upgrades etc.. Personally I'm a big fan of LP blue but a lot of people go for the more traditional/common colours like sunburst/black/natural wood etc. Matching headstock can certainly add a bit to the value & desirability but I don't think a Standard would have this?
2. The Steely Dan 4CD box set is well worth the money, look out for it on EBay, it comes up for sale now & then. Cost me about £20 I think. Watch out for Nearly Dan, great covers band with some really good musicianship http://www.nearlydan.co.uk/gigs.htm What was the Wilton Felder album you were after? Was it Inherit the Wind? http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=b_BTq8e6M-k I'm sure I've got it kicking around somewhere - I'm a complete Bobby Womack nut so bought it purely for the fact the sang on it
3. That is a nice piece of kit, I have a real soft spot for blueburst finish basses & the cream binding looks nice too
4.
as of the last 3 or more months I've been constantly happy with everything in regards to bass. almost every day now and has been for the last 2 months specifically.
Yeah, but that's only because you've bought a new 6 String & a swapped a cab in that time - give another 3 months & then tell us how you're getting on
5.
Man, that bass is ug-leeee!
Oi - I've got one of these and it's a very nice little thing indeed -
6. Chris who
7. Have you compared the AE with the HT at all? I haven't heard them back to back but seem to remember the HT was more of a smoother all round sound to the AE?
8.
mine is 42"-54" long too sorry, couldn't resist
Sure you're not missing a decimal point somewhere?
9. There's three different lengths - http://www.comfortstrapp.com/products.htm The new one I bought is the extra long
10. Just bought a brand new Comfort Strapp and it looks like I picked up an Extra Long instead of a Long. Great if you play your bass lower or are of a larger frame than weedy old me! Ideally I'd just like to trade for a Long if anyone has one?
11.
and light.
and go as hand luggage on planes Sorry I missed it guys, sounds like a great day. Had it been today I could have come straight from the airport (with Shuttle in had!).
12.
It's so easy to forget, these amps really are hand luggage!!
it weighed less than my real hand luggage - a small rucksack with a magazine and a book!
13.
Nice one. So you didnt get asked about where you purchased it then? I must admit ive never been stopped at customs at either end so i guess its pot luck. Last time i flew to Florida i took a lot of camera gear with me and made sure i had all the repiepts, just in case.
Not asked either end. I specifically asked the US side about electronic gear as hand luggage and the only thing they said to watch out for is hat you need to put them in a separate container to go through the X-Ray scanner.
14. Home safe and sound with Shuttle intact. US customs really helpful and advised to take it as hand luggage (it only weighs about 4lbs including the gig bag). Not at all concerned about it. Sailed through the other end as well
15. As Eden themselves proclaim, these are 'industry standard' cabs. I'm amazed no-one has snapped this up yet
16. No conversion required with the 6.0. It has a switchable voltage control on the rear
17. Took delivery today of a brand new Genz Benz shuttle 6.0 with GB gig bag for it, a Comfort Strapp and 5 sets of DR strings. The whole lot set me back just over £400 including delivery to my hotel in Florida all the way from Baton Rouge! This must be a saving of something close to £350 or more on UK pricing? Paid for the cost of the flight out here anyway Easily small enough to fit everything into my suitcase for the journey home as well. I haven't actually heard the Shuttle but have read loads of good things about them and it will be a perfect emergency back up head for gigs as it's so light. The dealer was so helpful and friendly as well. Might be an idea to 'do the math' on stuff like bulk orders of strings for BC people as their DR strings work out at $20 for a 4 string set?
18. Just a quick note to say that the wonderful Youtubedownloader will first save the flv file for you and then convert it to MP3 in the quality of your choice so you can transfer to iPod etc.
19. I'm sure I have a Motown tab book kicking around somewhere. I'll be back home on Sunday and can see if I can find it then. If no-one beats me to it then zap me a message on Sunday to remind me
20. Checked out some of the bars last night but every single one had just an acoustic guitar playing solo singer. The Bull had what amounted to bad karaoke with one tuneless girl 'singing' listlessly along to backing tracks. Hopefully it'll pick up as the weekend kicks in!
21. Taking a day off at the pool in 30 degree Key West and plugged into my iPod. Bought a clutch of Mastercuts Funk albums with me and, apart from being great poolside music, there's some really cool bass grooves going on. Brass Construction, Ohio Players, Brothers Johnson, Kool, Dazz, Eddie Harris, Donnie Hathaway, Teena Marie etc, etc. Just waiting for the bar to open and my day will be perfect Although all this bass heavy stuff is making me miss having a bass around to play along
22. I have three basses that all list up in the £2K plus bracket. Sadowsky NYC, Roscoe SKB and a Warwick Infinity NT. I didn't pay that much for any of them though. Ironically the Warwick probaby has about the highest full list price but is probably worth about the least of the three!
23.
IS there anyway of slowing down youtube vids!
You can download them to your hard drive & I think you could use some video editing software to slow them down. I've got something that slows video down but loses sound whilst doing so but I bet there's something out there that will do this. Downloading is easy http://youtubedownload.altervista.org/ will save any YouTube file &/or convert it to MP3 for you.
24. This might help with Rock Steady - not the funkiest version but slightly slower than the original and bass is pretty prominent in the mix: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7gPYVyBzL0...feature=related I quite often hunt around on YouTube to see how people have covered songs I want to learn, gives an idea of how other people have interpreted the original (especially if the original is tough to play!)
25.
Surely not the Roscoe already
No, I'm enjoying it too much at the moment The Laklands aren't getting out of the house much though
