1. Thanks Rob! yes, BC does had a lot to answer for.. and I can also remember the days when I only had one bass, a combo and a tuner too! But, to be fair there's been about 20-years between when I first started out and joining Basschat, so I really only have myself to blame! Almost everything I own now, with the exception of the OC-2 (which I've had since '92), the Alembic and my custom J.D. have been bought pre-loved or in part-exchange. Pleased that your Bass is now legally on it's way back to you.. have fun with your band.. and keep going! ...... Thanks Bob! ..I had a break away from music (for about nine years) - got married, kids, work, three house moves, gear in storage, so know what you mean about picking up a Bass again.. still tough to find the time, but getting there.. slowly. Cheers.. Simon. ...... .. 84 sounds good! Not sure my pension fund manager would feel quite the same way. I guess I will feel OLD when I stop playing, and I have no plans to STOP!
Welcome aboard . Nice rig & basses mate !
Thanks so much! They sound just as good as they look.. cheers.. Simon.

I'd tried one out at 'The Bass Gallery' in London, about 15-years ago and promised myself I would get one, if the right one ever came along. Unfortunately, I had less than an hour to talk to Stuart over a much needed coffee at Stockport railway station. He is a lovely guy, with so much knowledge and Band experience. It was great to chat away to another Bassist, just for a change!! but much too soon.. the train to take me back south was approaching.. why couldn't there have been a cancellation due to the wrong kind of snow?! ... oh well! Thanks again to the stage that BC gives us.. and to all you guys who contribute and make BC what it is: - "Keep out of of treble".
 3.
I was going to post this. It's a true return to their roots and blimmin excellent too. Just a shame we're only going to get a 6 track EP and not a full album.
+1. I forgot to mention that I think it's excellent too. I can hear lots of other 'Level' songs in there with 'Sirens' (Shades of "Overtime".. "Romance" and "Love Meeting Love").. Mike has made a massive contribution (this can't be overstated enough) and still sounding great on Rhodes!.. I've seen them twice this year @ Guildford and the IndigO2 last Friday, and the band appear to be quite relaxed and in great form. Nathan and Sean are doing a marvellous job, with Mark and Pete simmering away nicely.. more to come from both of them.. I know it's only an EP, but it will be very interesting to see how they go about releasing this.. Mark has said before that they were thinking of doing a limited run of vinyl?!?! so, will it be through a record label; iTunes - really hope NOT - or a CD direct from LEVEL42.com.. either way, this would make a great Xmas prezzie! #LEVELHEAD forever
 4. ... Listening to a *New* LEVEL 42 track called 'Sirens' (recorded LIVE at the IndigO2 September, 2013).. Thanks for sharing these with us.
 7.
OC-2......probably?! Si
+1 for the OC-2. The general consensus for 'essentials' appears to be: - Tuner > Compressor > Pre-amp/DI (which I'd broadly go along with too). A link to my board (below)... 9. My Bass-ic set-up.. It's old, but has just about all the tone options I need.
 10. ... and when you've finished looking around and about Denmark St. Don't forget to hop on the Northern Line (for a couple of stops) to Camden Town, and check out 'The Gallery' (Bass Merchant).. 15. Honestly! I can't remember if my JD GA24 fret-less had featured on this thread before - - - - - so here she is again?
 16. ... Interesting thread! thanks for all the posts ... just my tuppence worth really; I tend to use any old 'dead' strings (on my fret-less JD GA24), which come off my fretted basses, and are usually round wounds. With the rear pick up selected, I play off the end of the finger board and still get that distinctive 'growl' that everyone loves..
 17.
I know different parts of the world are dominated by different brands.
