1. ... double-clicked... thought again... and changed my mind... Muzz... you are the man on the kinda black bass! I like the 'music man' (on the left), but It probably isn't... REALLY like it!!!
 2.
Go on then, let's have the categories...all black, mostly black, some black, kinda black...
Hmm. I must admit I don't care for those mass produced 'gloss black' Basses you see (nearly) all the time.. but, I did once own a Westone thunder 1 in gloss black, so that's probably why (?) When I asked J.D. to make this one, I knew it was going to be.. kinda black... matt black, opaque black, translucent black...
 3. Hello... and... Some good peeps (and threads) on here... including 'post your pedal board' and 'Basses on the settee'... check 'em out...
 4.
Believe it or not I'm actually using the istrobosoft app on my phone! Wonderfully accurate and can't justify buying a tuner at the moment, although a black polytune mini could tempt me...
You see! dumb question.. A tuner on a mobile phone!! Who'd have thought of that? (It's only taken me 10-years to move from tape to hard-disk....)
 5.
Simply but two superb pedals
Cheers Kev! Love your board (and all the others too).. umm.. probably dumb question.. but where's ya tuner?!?! (built into your amp?)
 6. Hi! First up - this is not my board - but thought it was worth a share? It belongs to a Bassist, who has been playing since 1979, and he's just finished touring Japan with his band.. this pic came courtesy of his mobile phone via a popular social network site (so not the sharpest pic ever).. Can you guess who it belongs to?
Someone with a TC Electronics endorsement?
Hello Kev! I think you know who it is.. Why am I surprised to see the AW-3 on his board?.. Tbh I'm thinking about an original EHX Doctor-q for my board (NOT a nano clone).. The Radial Bassbone looks like a really interesting and versatile bit of kit.. for a pre-amp anyway!! Kev? If you have a board - can we see a 2013 update!! cheers..
 7.
anybody have one under the bed they have not used for a while?
Yes - but it's an Alembic..

 13. Hi! +1 ... fantastic idea/thread ... happy to help out ... How about the BC 'Trailblazer' (?) - a Bass which marks a trail through a musical wildness ... not wild(er)ness.. I'll get me coat..!
 14.
I think it possibly can be one of the worst things about growing up in a church/around christians sometimes, and it doesn't sound fun for you. When I hit teenage years always remembered wanting to be away playing sunday league! But my point is, looking back - the good things of community as a kid outweighed the bad and... not all churches are like the one you went to. Though I understand where you're coming from!
Hi Luke! sorry for seemingly over-negative post... Thanks for reading and your empathy.. a verse (for both of us?) 15.
Welcome to the site Tom! You're doing well mate, when I was 16 I only owned one bass and it cost me £50 Enjoy your journey!
Hi! ... There's an echo in here - Oops it's me! Welcome to Basschat Tom!! I bought my first bass, with my first weeks wages £100 at age 17.. (Aria Pro II + 50W practice amp).. I'm almost 40 now.. still noodling.. and still learning!!
 16.
As for Boss tuners, just because they're the standard, it doesn't make them the best. On their own product page it says they're accurate to +/- 1 cent.the polytune (in single string mode) is accurate to +/- 0.5 cent. A brief look at the prices on google shows them at about the same, it's a no-brainer to go for the more accurate tuner that has a polyphonic mode and true bypass over the one that has no benefits IMO.
+1
 17.
How do you find the BBE Sonic Stomp? Not seen one before and looked it up on the web and have to say that I am a little sceptical about their claims!
Hi! Here's a quote from an faq on BBE's own website.. http://www.bbesound....e/faq/index.asp "BBE is totally different than exciter and enhancer effects units. BBE High Definition Sound technology is not an effect, but restructures the signal in such a way which allows speakers to more correctly and faithfully reproduce the signal. The best analogy for BBE technology is like eyeglasses for your audio system". Well, what can you say? It looks like cleverly crafted product marketing.. BUT the Sonic Stomp IS different to an 'exciter' / 'enhancer'.. I've used both and neither add much, except for a bit of 'hiss' and more 'treble'.. In my experience, the BBE does NOT work well between an instrument and a pre-amp; you just end up reducing the input level. However, It really work best in my pre-amps 'effects loop', as the last *processor* in the chain, BEFORE the amplifier stage.. where I've found it adds 'energy', and a better 'rounded', 'cleaner' sound. It's a "set and forget" signal processor, but when you take it out, you do notice it's not there. I've read the same mixed reviews too.. but I just felt for 40-odd quid (on-line auction) it was worth taking a punt. I did notice that a couple of other guys (above) also have one on their boards too.. be quite interesting to hear what their experience is.. and if they would recommend.. I certainly do. Cheers!
 18. Hello.. I voted yes. I use a few. (but I can understand why some bassists might choose not to). Bass into: Valve preamp > Tuner > Graphic > Octave > Auto wah > Chorus > Flanger > Reverb > Compressor > Exciter > Out to Amp I play four string fretted, fret-less and like playing all kinds of music.. there are no passengers on my board and everything gets used at some point..
 19. Hi! So.. it's Friday night and I've been for a noodle with my new board set up for 2013.. powered by the Carl Martin pro power.. It's been loadsa fun putting this board together (Pedaltrain 2) over the last 6-months, and almost everything, except the H.O.F, is used/second-hand mainly from on-line auctions.. or given away free *TC Corona Chorus* as part of the promotion for the BH250. There are no passengers and everything is used - but not all at the same time. The chain is; GP12XV preamp > Polytune > EQ-20 > OC-2 > Octave deluxe > MXR Auto Q > Corona > Vortex > H.O.F > Nova Dynamics > BBE Sonic Stomp .. still have GAS for Source Audio SA170 programmable EQ, TC flashback delay, BOSS LS-2 and the MXR M87 compressor.. the Nova Dynamics and EQ-20 eat some serious Ma (600+ between them) and leave a large footprint.. so we'll see what 2013 turns up!
 20. Hi! interesting thread.. and god bless you all.. I was brought up in an 'evangelical' church in Essex (more traditional baptist really) and worked my way from a very young age through various choirs, orchestras and started playing Bass in one (of three) rota based groups; through the 90's. That's when the problems started really; the regular services and church politics were very difficult to take. There was a huge gulf in age in the congregation and membership; almost zero folks in their 30's and 40's; plenty of teens/20's and loads of 60+ who hated (?) 'drums' and anything else that wasn't a traditional Organ - they even disliked the grand piano.. the overhead projector.. and as for my volcano red Bass (!) well, you can probably imagine.. Sometimes, the music chosen for the services would be mostly hymns ("HOW GREAT THOU ART - then sings my soul"); & you were lucky if there was anything from a spring harvest book - "All Heaven Declares" or "such love" anyone? The thing that kept us going (drummer, guitarist, keyboard player and small horn section - trumpet and sax) was almost all of the outreach activities we did away from our regular church.. which included "THEOS": a community outreach program aimed at young people with the emphasis on praise, worship and prayer.. met some lovely people along the way, and learnt a lot which I'll always be grateful for.. I moved away more than 10-years ago, and haven't found a 'church' yet (not trying very hard at all really).. and truth be told, not missing the regular Sunday politics.. but the fellowship? yes - I do miss it.. but I have a very young family, and I don't want them to have to go through what I went through..

 22. ... This is just such an amusing thread... yet, at the same time unbelievably tragic!! IMHO as well as having some expensive + very loud gear (sic) - surely, when in a band you've got to be able to like the people you're gigging with ?!?!
 23.
My understanding is that it delays the low frequencies to align them in real time with high frequencies so as to arrive at the speaker/ear at the same time. I stumbled across an offhand reference to it in a discussion about something otherwise unrelated. Having never heard of it before, I began to investigate. As indicated, the reviews were highly polarized but, for $40.00 US, it was worth a try. Now I am a true believer. My Acoustic B200H has a DI out but using the DI-100 sends the corrected signal out to the board. I believe it is best used through the effects loop.
+1 Picked mine up late last year for £40 odd quid - and yes, best used in an effects loop: after the pre-amp and last in effects chain; before the amp stage.. Just checked the spec sheet and quite surprised that the current stomp box incarnation only has a current draw of 7.7mA (!) http://hosted.proaal.com/pdf/bbe/SONIC-STOMP_Manual.pdf
 24.
I've never been a fan of stomp boxes for bass, I believe in the tone going in and out as natural as possible with my passive basses, but I keep thinking a little help may be needed to get 'that' tone with my Ashdown Mag EVO 2 300 and Ashdown Mag 8 x 10. I don't fancy spending a fortune on something I might not get on with, so any suggestions chaps? I may even have to concede in the end to an active bass. A great excuse to get my dream Musicman Stingray!!
Hi! Agree with much of everything above.. I used to think that getting THAT tone (instead of 'MY' tone) was down to some 'effect' or type of 'Bass'... but over the years' I've found these things to be pretty essential no matter what bass you play or amp you play through: - - certain types of string suit different basses - try lots - your ears will help you; - a decent parametric or graphic equalizer (if you can save your settings that's a bonus); mine is near the front of my chain; - a lovely valve pre-amp to warm things up; - MAYBE a good sound engineer at FOH or in the studio who knows how to use a compressor to help you cut through everyone else in the mix... although they might thank you if you've got a good sound already with your compressor; I use mine almost last in the chain,, good luck!!
 25. Hi!
Maybe I didn't put the right words in my other post. What I'm after is a good sounding box to help a passive bass sound sweeter before hitting the amp. I can't afford an active Stingray at the minute so I'm looking at getting a sound I like without messing with the EQ on my amp too much and colouring things too much. I'd rather have a pleasing tone going in the amp and then using it to simply amplify and maybe fine tune things from there. What's good on the market?
This is probably a slightly controversial (?) suggestion, but how about the BBE 'Sonic Stomp Maximizer'.. a signal processor (not an effect). I got this one 2nd hand last year - again! - for 40 odd quid, and it's an acquired taste for sure.. BBE claim "The BBE Sonic Stomp Pedal will make bassists rejoice! More fullness, more presence, more clarity, and more control right at your feet". Hmm. Probably best used AFTER the pre-amp stage as the last processor in an effects loop.. BEFORE the amplifier stage.. If you can try one all the better..
