1. I hope no one thinks that I'm saying that there has to be a pub lunch I don't know anyone, so I'll be hiding at the back and keeping out of the way, except for 5im0n's compressor workshop where I may be a guinea pig I'm not bringing any amps or cabs cos all I have is a practice amp that won't interest anybody.
2.
first at the bassbash?
Yup
3.
Re the refreshments for this year. Last year I laid on sandwiches and soft drinks which weren't great sellers, so this year I will stick with the tried and tested formula of tea, filter coffee and scrummy pastries. The local Tesco is only 5 mins by car if you need something more substantial.
There's got to be facilities for a pub lunch close by? All of us going at once might cause some issues though
4. Maplins were doing BOGTwoF on batteries last time I was in there, but that may have finished now.
5. My thumb anchors my pick, otherwise I drop it
6. My 5 has been my go-to since I bought it, but my 4 is currently in bits so it's not like I have a choice I keep the 4 as a flat drop-tune for the occasions when I need it as I can't be bothered to fully retune the 5 for one song.
7. My real board, sort of finished. From this: To this: Build thread here if you're remotely interested: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/187809-19-pedal-board-build/page__gopid__1817033#entry1817033
8. The final push... Finished, and this is where pictures of MDF triangles with holes drilled in them should be PSU mounted underneath, MDF triangles in all their glory... Pedals on board, but not mounted, i need some bolts for the TC and the tuner... Brush strip across the back to help hold it all together... My twist on mounting pedals. A bicycle chain sideplate with a neodium magnet glued to it. Not glued yet though, but as a proof of concept it's looking good. That's it. I was hoping that it would be Bash Ready for Saturday but I don't think it will be. It's OK as it is, but I need to get some bolts for the permanent pedals and glue the magnets onto the chain plates. The MDF is splitting rather nicely as well, so I either need to use a slightly larger pilot hole for the screws or a decent bit of timber for the sides. I'm also not that happy with the big 3U plate and how it's been drilled. Hopefully the box full that was being chucked out at work hasn't gone yet, so I can redo it with a proper drill press and a countersink but I'm not holding out much hope. I'm also thinking of moving the PSU. It's OK where it is, but the back is a bit close to the brush strip and the plugs at the front get in the way of any leads that get pushed into the gap above the lower rank of pedals. The screws will be capped with snap on cups to make it look nice, but as a first attempt that was more than a little bit made up it's not too bad. Edit - 27/09/12 - I've been thinking about it this morning and I think that rotating the top plate 180 degrees will push the ouput power to the back so that it will be easier to get to the mains lead and the fuse. Or I can put the PSU on top to show the pretty status lights, but that means leads everywhere. I'm also going to replace the beige bottom plate with some more 1U strips as they have curled edges and the big plate is very flexible. Using another 1U strip means that I can put two more magnets per pedal as well. Two magnets hold them on, but it's quite easy to move them with a foot. Thanks for looking.
9. Here is my pedal board build. It's made from bits and bobs, mostly 19" rack parts liberated from work with sides made from MDF. I'm not a great fan of sticking velcro to my pedals so I've gone down the bicycle chain route, with a twist, which will be seen later. Comments and a critique at the end... I've just realised that there are a few bits that didn't get photographed, but they're only triangles made of 15mm MDF, so I'm sure that you can imagine them Aquire some pedals... Aquire some 19" racking blanking plates and play with layouts... Get distracted by finishing the kitchen floor... Draw the sides... Take the bits and a lump of MDF to what I laughingly call my workshop... To be continued...

11. Has anyone come across a metronome with with an output jack so that it gets amplified? Or better still, an inline one so that it can sit next to the pedal board and use the same amp input as the proper signal chain? I suspect that to not hear one we'll have to be playing a little louder than the living room will take, but exploring options at the moment.
12. I know it's old hat now, but I can bring my TC Nova Dynamics if anyone wants to try it. I might bring it anyway if there is going to be instructions on how to use it
13. Is it too late to say that I'd like to be there and if I can get a leave pass then I will?
14. How do meets/bashes get started? Does someone just think I'll ask a rehearsal space if they can do x day and then advertise it, if I get enough takers I'll book it otherwise I'll go to the pub? Do you expect to pay for a meet, have a band hanging around to do the non-bass bits? What happens behind the scenes? I only ask as all the advertised meets are in far flung places and I wondered how easy it would be to set one up, and if I did, would anyone come? It'll be in or around Northampton BTW!
15.
If you've ever likely to be up in North Yorkshire you can try my GK MB Fusion and Barefaced Compact. I've also got a Trace Elliot 15" cab which works very nicely with the GK (I'll be selling in a couple of weeks when my Compact No 2 arrives - probably for £100 - pm me if interested). Its Lozz's old MB Fusion I've got and his description of the sound is accurate - they're fantastic amps.
I'd love to, but North Yorks is a long way from Northampton to try a rig Having said that, we are going to be in Brid sometime, not sure wifey would approve of a diversion

Dang!

Permission to say c0ck... I've gone and given myself GAS for a Vanderklay 112 cab now, on top of all the other shiny things I want
17. How are you cutting the fret slots? The only time I've done it the frets were sort of in the right place, but not quite.
18. If you can find one, and it's big if at the moment as they were discontinued a while back, then I'd recommend a TC Electronics Nova Dynamics (ND-1).
19. I normally grab half an hour when I come home and Mrs O. is watching Neighbours... That half an hour can streeeeeeetch before I've realised though
20. This 'un I think that the hardware is worth more than the bass, but it's mine
21. Does anyone know of any GK stockists in or between MK and Birmingham? The GK website only mentions Polar Audio and googling music shops in those areas doesn't pull up anyone who stocks GK, unless I've missed them. I want to try either a 500 or a 500 Fusion to see what they are like as I really like the idea of a high output amp in a diddy case. My ultimate aim is to get a Barefaced cab to match the GK, but that can wait until I actually have need for it. In the meantime, should I like and buy the amp, which cab would go with it as a stop gap before/if I get my Barefaced?

Quiet B

I put the EMG's in earlier this year and I was perfectly happy with the sound then, so it must have just started. They are nearly new strings and hardly been used, 30 to 40 hours maybe. I only noticed last night when I was actually trying to make up a bass line that included the B!
23. Worro, My B string has disappeared! Well, not literally but it's really quiet compared to the other four. I've tried boosting it using my EQ, but I don't think the GE-7B is young enough to cope with a 5er. I haven't yet tried raising the pickup height on the bass side. Any other suggestions? It's a P-J configuration bass with EMG pickups, and yes, the battery is fine!
24. My first proper show was Iron Maiden on the No Prayer on the Road in 1990, at the Oxford Apollo. Supported by Wolfsbane... I did see Thunder, Ugly Kid Joe and Skin at the Roadmender in Northampton around the same sort of time as well so which one was actually the first, I can't say
