1. I've had some really nice help since I joined this community, is there a thanks/kudos function on the forum like I've seen on other sites to thank members? Otherwise I'll just namedrop : Sibob Pantherairsoft Dood Bagsietaylor
2. This community is so amazingly helpful, I love it!!! Thank you all
3. Dood, thank you very much for sharing that link. I'll watch the interview and the Dave Ellefson stuff as well.
4. They haven't got it!!!!!! Oh....... I've confused myself now. I clicked on your link and subscribed to UG Plus, which doesn't have it, and then I read the page your link sent me to which does It's too early and I've only had one mug of tea and one of coffee!
5. I don't suppose anyone has the notation for Anthrax's cover of Got the Time? It was in Guitarist when they still had a bass techniques column, so that's going back some years but if anyone has a copy that they could scan or photocopy that would be grand. It's the solo I can't work out by ear, just need more practice!
6. From our first muck about session in Thor knows how many years, my guitarist mate and I have decided that we shall try and get some songs learnt For we, read me, as he's a bit good and has gigged, which is more than I have done. Anyhoo, I have to get Pretty Vacant, Sweet Child of Mine and Wasted Years down. We sort of got them yesterday, so a little (lot) of practice on my part is needed. Then we need find a drummer and singer, though I reckon my mate should do the singing duties but he doesn't agree... Sorry to clutter the forum with nonsense but I'm still frothing from it
7.
This question comes up pretty often so I wrote a brief article on the topic http://www.ultimate-...ng_it_loud.html The advice you are getting is pretty sound all round and for your budget you should find something fairly useful I'd also recommend Peavey or Ashdown secondhand. Good Luck
Nicely informative article for someone like me who knows nothing beyond a practice amp I don't quite get the last paragraph though. I read it that to get 120db with a 98db/w speaker at 1 meter you suggest 200w, but if that goes through a 95db/w speaker then it needs a 400w head, or only 100w with a 102db/w speaker? Told you I knew nothing! I'm cogitating over a GK MB200 and a BF Compact, but that's way in the future and only if things go right at the moment
8.
That Peterson tuner is a seriously nice piece of kit, as is your TC Compressor. If I was going to have a totally minimal set up I'd be very tempted by just using the Peterson on it's own, especially with the modelling DI stuff built in.
I was more commenting on the board made from an old drawer front and pedals held on with bent brackets and chipboard screws than what was actually on it, but thank you for the comments about the content. I haven't really explored the Peterson beyond the tuning capability and noting that it has a DI output, what's the modelling DI function?
9. My board!!! And I would think that there aren't many quite as shockingly bad as this one It was supposed to be quick and dirty as I need one for Sunday, but whilst it's certainly dirty it wasn't as quick as it could have been, re-bending and filing these angle brackets to fit took about two hours and I think I've broken my vice... It's only a stop-gap until I build my nice one I've got planned, which will be mostly made of 19" rack parts, but thought you might like a laugh
10. One of these: http://www.artecsound.com/effect/spb-8.htm Still in the box as I found out once I'd bought it (D'oh!) that it doesn't supply enough power to run my TC Nova Dynamic. As I will still end up with two wall bricks if I use it I'll wait until I find something else that works. £40 plus P&P (Which shouldn't be much...)
11. What's the output on the Powerstation? I need a 12v 300Ma output for my TC Nova Dynamics. Everything else is 9v so I need a weird PSU that can do both
12. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 1 post to view.
13. Bought a Boss ODB-3, turned up safe and well as described a day or two later. No faff with payment or dispatch, an all round good egg
14. When you say reverse pup I presume you mean that the D-G half is in front of the E-A half? Apart from a different look, does it make it sound different? I can't imagine it would, but always happy to be proved wrong
15. I'm not keen on the shape, there's something funny about the horns, even though the long truss-rod cover is quite cool, but that's only my opinion. Why does no-one ever mention Lemmy when suggesting a list of Ric players? Don't you like him? (I'm a bit fuzzy from a pub lunch, so excuse me if I seem a bit blunt )
16. It's my dad's workhop not mine, but I do use it occasionaly. It's a water pump for his Simplex, he can't get the injectors to work and the eccentric pump is worn out. He's actually stopped making locomotives and got into clocks at the moment.
17. I got this Aria Pro II Magna Series 5er from eBay maybe seven or eight years ago. It's got a made in Korea sticker on the neck heel and I think it plays nicely. Over the years however things have started getting a bit flaky. So... Take one perfectly usable bass and put it on a bench... Whip the machine heads off to replace with tasty "new" Schaller M4's with Made in W Germany stamped on them Replace the bridge with a real new Schaller 3D5 Things got interesting at the pointy end. On offering up the Schallers we found that the collar is 12mm, while the originals are 14mm. To really make a mess, the holes on the head that the tuners go through are 15mm, no wonder the B tuner was broken. We made some sleeves with an appropriate ID and OD I don't have a picture of the sleeves in situ because I forgot and it means de-stringing and taking the tuner out so you'll have to trust me they're in there Once the metalwork is sorted, take the pups out, empty the control cavity and add the new controls Put the new pups in. Why is nothing simple? EMG don't supply springs and the originals were chocked up with a bit of high density foam. Plus the new pups are smaller than the old by enough to mean drilling new screw holes, fingers crossed I don't go through the back... Mr Maplin saves the day with a box of 150 springs for £2.99. I only want 8 springs, but springs and P&P from the 'net is over a fiver... Control cavity wired up, and I bet that you are all laughing at me now.. The poxy battery didn't fit!!!! Re jigged to get it all in. Cleaned and restrung, the finished article As a bit of a teaser, here is the old plywood body from my P Copy. A new eBay body and the neck are in the garage awaiting new paint, plus there's a pedal board in the offing, so watch this space as they say.

Guitar Porn

My guitar. I got the neck from a friend at school, he bought it as a working guitar, pale blue metallic Strat copy with twin humbuckers and a coil tap. Somewhere along the line it lost its body and I got the neck. The body came from a parts ad in the back of Guitarist and then got abused. The frount routed body got capped with a thin layer of wood where necessary and the control cavity was drilled through to allow access from the back. The floating bridge had the bit under the string clamps milled out to allow for pull up bends and after muchos filling and sanding it was treated to a couple of rattle cans of metallic green, I think it's a Vauxhall colour, but I can't remember. I'm fairly sure that the pups are Kent Armstrong but quite honestly, it's been so long that I've forgotten. It may be a collection of bits, but it was me wot done it, it's mine and I love it
19. Not personally, but I once followed someone through a village who drove into the back of a parked car whilst fiddling with the stereo. The boot of the parked car was loaded with a drum kit waiting to go to a gig...
20. DragonForce @ Rock City 2nd/3rd October, one or the other, which ever one they're there for Anthrax/Motorhead @ DeMontfort in Leicester, 11th November.
21. I'll probably give myself GAS with this, but... What do you guys use to record practice or general muck-about sessions? At it's simplest I'm thinking of a mic attached to a huge hard disk, which sounds like I've answered my own question - a laptop with a mic attached, but is that really the best answer?

Noise Gate help

Shep, You've cracked it! Swapped everything around so the comp follows the NG and they both follow the pedals and no funny whistle. Thanks very much for your help and sharing your expertise

Noise Gate help
Ah - I have only just realised!!! You are using the noise gate BEFORE the noisy pedal!!! Ha. Yes.... put it after otherwise it will do NOTHING! I assume you were using the ins and outs of the separate inputs on the back to isolate the pedal? Wish I'd noticed that 1st! lol. Id suggest just putting the nova dynamics inline so only one input and one output is in use and use engine A as a NG and engine B as a compressor.
I am using it after the ODB-3, it goes through the EQ - COMP - ODB-3 - NG. The port allocations are: EQ to Input A, Output A to ODB-3, ODB-3 to Input B then Output B to the amp. I'll try using it inline with the engines the other way around as you suggest though and see what happens. Thanks again for sparing the time to assit
