1.
I'm sure my Dad has them - I'll have a look. I never knew they had such contempt for After The Ordeal. I think it's beautiful, particularly coming after Battle.
Perhaps explains why Steve Hackett has endured so long and is still making great music to this day while Genesis faded away. One of the stand-out tracks on SEBTP IMO.
2.
My first ever gig as an excited 13 year old was Genesis at Earls Court on the tour that yielded Seconds Out. I will never ever forget Los Endos, the closer as all the lasers turned on full pelt as the main refrain kicked in. I've got goosebumps now
I was there too Clarky - I would have been 17 then. Los Endos was amazing but my 'goosebumps' moment was Phil Collins appearing in a cone of laser-light to sing '666' in Suppers Ready. Not ashamed to say I shed a tear or two that night - such power in their music. Even more amazing was the first time I saw them at Bristol Hippodrome on the Wind and Wuthering tour. My Dad drove me up from Devon and waited around for me until the gig was over. I don't think I've ever been so excited about a gig since.
3. Update - I've decided to hang onto this rig for the time being. It's not perfect but maybe there is another band round the corner and at least I'm gig-ready. Right well an urgent cashflow situation means that I need the money more than these items sat around doing nothing, as they are at present. The Peavey Tour 700 is housed in a Warwick 2U rockbag, which in itself could probably withstand a mild nuclear attack. Combined with the Peavey head this is a solid and very reliable set-up and a not-inconsiderable weight. I bought it secondhand a few months ago and the previous owner had only used it in a studio situation. For the few months I've owned it it has only been gigged a handful of times due to the band involved doing the dirty on me. The head is in very good condition with no scratches, dings or bumps on it. The Rockbag is also in good nick and I've slightly modified it inside so the rear of the amp head is also supported. Due to its weight I would be looking for someone to collect it from myself in Devon - I can drive to Exeter or Plymouth to meet buyers. I would look into couriering if someone was interested but the weight might make this prohibitive. Alternatively once a month I travel up to South Wales, near Caerphilly, usually by train. I'm next due up there the weekend of 9/11 October. Much as I don't relish the prospect of carrying this on the train I could take it with me and meet people either in Bristol or Cardiff. Price-wise I'm looking for £300 for this - pretty good price considering the Rockbag I believe retails for around £50- £70. The Hartke VXL 410 cab is also in good condition with the carpet covering all intact and showing few signs of wear. I would be happy to split these two items to sell. The cab is rated 400 watts at 8 ohms. I've only gigged it the same few times as the head so I imagine this would serve someone well as a reliable gigging cab for many years to come. Obviously there's no way I'm going to carry this on the train so it's collect only from South Devon I'm afraid - I would be willing to drive to Plymouth or Exeter to deliver. If someone was seriously in the Bristol/Cardiff area I would consider driving up instead of train on my next visit. I'm looking for £100 for the cab. I will get some photos up on here in due course.
4.
Tell the courier it's under 50kgs. No one will weigh it. I can gaurantee you that. They are far too busy.
I worked for Parcelfarce for a few unhappy years... believe me, they weigh anything and everything that might be overweight.
5. Welcome from just down the road in Paignton.
(used to stay in Warren Road - why is it infamous?). I love the place - used to go to see the bands on Friday nights in the Cider Press - is that still open? Anyway enjoy BC, there are some really helpful people on here.
Warren road is where most of the drug dealers in the bay operate from, or used to as it may have been cleaned up by now. Cider press is still there, as is the Piazza next door, though it's called something else now. I once saw the Australian Pink Floyd there before they started moving onto bigger venues.
6.
Maybe its an experiment in the Dunning–Kruger effect, if you've auditioned bunches of guitarists, you'll find it pretty common.
Wow, just googled this and it explains so much of my previous life as a guitarist! But hey I'm a bassist now the voices tell me, so I'm going to be ok - aren't I?
7.
seems more like he's looking for guineau pigs for a human psychology experiment than any genuine attempt to form a band
Perhaps the first cover they all learn should be Peter Gabriels 'Milgram's 37 (We do what we're told)
8. John Taylor on breakfast TV this morning - what's going on? All these players seem to be exceedingly nice chaps too.
9. Ah maybe this is where I've been going wrong - thinking that I'm not too bad a player and wouldn't mind playing in a half-decent band. Bonkers advert - http://www.gumtree.com/p/community/wanted-bass-guitarist-who-cant-play-or-just-a-bit-maybe/109143631 On the plus side, the guys a psychotherapist - as he mentions in his previous ad. As well as some rubbish playing any takers might get a bit of psychoanalysis into the bargain!
10. It looks like a canoe paddle!
11.
Very nice, is he not using TC stuff anymore then?
I'm sure I read recently that he's an endorsee for TC Electronics now?
12. Sorry chaps/chappettes, didn't realise it was on for an hour - it's torture! I'm sure I wasn't hallucinating though when they mentioned him.
13. Mark King is playing/being interviewed on the One Show in the next half hour.
14. I'm up there from Devon once every 4 weeks, visiting my 17 month old son. My life has become the reality version of 'Gavin and Stacey', except the flipping bridge is 6 quid now, not £5.10! If I could find work (and/or) a band up there I'd consider moving back. I shall be in Caerphilly tomorrow in fact watching the Tour of Britain with him.
15. My Framus Custom Diablo is on the bay at the moment - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Framus-Diablo-Custom-guitar-/140845416629?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item20cb0a80b5&_uhb=1#ht_926wt_885 Lovely and very versatile guitar.
16.
good luck woolf, i've been trying to give away a hard case too and even with a free air guitar i can't shift it. mabe the recession hasn't bit deep enough yet.
What make of air guitar are you selling? I might be interested.
17. I was just wondering if anyone has a copy of this book kicking around that they wish to pass on?
18. I got a Peavey Tour 700 for £300 off Gumtree. Built like a Sherman tank, not a huge range of tones but pretty punchy and powerful. About as no-nonsense as you can get.
19. Similar sort of experience fairly recently. I joined a band and helped them out of a really sticky spot, ie a wedding gig in a couple of weeks - so I learnt the set in a couple of weeks, begged borrowed and eventually bought a bass rig - helped out with a sizeable loan from my family (Only playing bass since May, guitarist previously). All went swimmingly, gig a big success, pats on back and praise heaped on me from, what seemed like a nice bunch of guys. A few more gigs followed over the coming months until I was called to a 'band meeting', which one of them obviously couldn't be bothered to attend (Or was too embarrassed) . Seems a local bass player had approached them behind my back at one of our gigs - which must take some gall on its own - and offered his vastly more experienced services as his band at the time weren't getting many gigs. They'd rehearsed with him before setting me free. What a bunch of two-faced tossers! I've consoled myself with the thought that I thought their guitar playing was pretty shoddy at the best of times. Also any band that's on it's 13th drummer must have something wrong with it. Maybe they all exploded!
20. Still here rainy bank holiday bump
21. Here's what you'll need, if you're lucky enough to find one - http://www.moogmusic.com/products/taurus/taurus-3-bass-pedals/. I imagine Mike Rutherford has a good few of them in his lock-up!

23. Best of luck finding someone. As a life-long Genesis devotee that would be my dream position but sadly live too far away. Tavistock Wharf have had G2 there in the past so worth bearing in mind when you're gig-ready. I'll be first in the queue!
