You might want to give this a try http://studioone.presonus.com/free/ You can always upgrade to a paid-for version as and when. I've got the full version (though I mainly use Logic) and it's as good, if not better than a lot of its competitors.

Personally I use G-Tech external drives. I've heard a lot of bad things about Lacie from photographer friends so I won't go near them. I gather these are the industry standard with a lot of studios - http://www.glyphtech.com/ - expensive but what price would you put on your digital creations?

Useful guide here to cable usage if anyone's experiencing cable-confusion http://www.award-session.com/pdfs/ClearTone%20Cable%20Guide.pdf I haven't used Cleartone before but that may change as I've recently started gigging again. They seem very good value.

Yes, I think as Davebass5 points out the secret with Thomman is just to pick up the phone, they seem snowed under with emails.
-
I've realised my mistake and probably will use them again - already got my eyes on the EBS Multi-comp - they're way cheaper than anywhere else. She said they receive upwards of 4000 emails a week so it's no wonder they're slow to answer. I didn't realise they had phone lines dedicated solely to UK customers. Thanks.

I took DaveBass5's advice and rang Thomann. Finally got a return label after 2 weeks of trying. I doubt I'll be using them again.
-
I will give that a go.

As I'm discovering Thomman are great for buying from and worse than useless if you want to return/exchange an item. I'm currently engaged in a seemingly endless round of emails from different employees, none of whom seem to communicate with eachother. It really is doing my head in. I don't think I'll bother with them again.

Agree absolutely with Discreet. When I'm not playing my bass I regularly feel compelled to caress the volute on my Framus Diablo Custom guitar. My missus just can't understand how I find that neck, or any of my instruments beautiful. Might explain why we're separated!

[sharedmedia=core:attachments:111850] Guitar-orientated bit of fun but could equally be applied to bass guitar.

Sorry I jumped the gun... let me introduce myself..

Hi BassThing and belated welcome to BC. That's an interesting story you have there. Good on you re starting the bass course. I also reached the 50 milestone (millstone?) mark and started a college course at DBs sound when I was 49. I was surrounded there by young 17 years dubstep/dance/house guys with headphones permanently glued to their heads. Thought I'd feel out of place but didn't and if anything, the other students were curious and enthusiastic with regard to my musical background, though I drew the line at bombarding them with Prog rock! -
Hi Dave, welcome to BC. I've also got a BTB400QM - lovely bass!

Hmm point taken Paul 5, so they are basically a 'one-sound' amp? I found I was having to turn the volume up to 8 to get heard above drums and two guitars, just in rehearsal. No problems with the build quality as you say. Think it needs two 8ohm cabs to get the best out of it? Oh and I'll have a bump myself while I'm here.

This is going back to DV247 early next week but I thought I'd give peeps on here the option to buy before I sort out return postage. It's brand new, only been unboxed, lightly fingered and played for an hour or so. I've decided it's not for me and hence the return trip to DV247. I don't know if the 4 year warranty can be transferred to a new owner, I'd have to enquire about that. I'm after the price I paid which is £269 plus postage (not sure if that works same as Ebay on here?) I'm in Devon. If anyone is interested this would be have to be a very quick sale as I plan to be shot of it early next week. Cheers.

Excuse my intrusion but I was just admiring this gorgeous-looking instrument. Way out of my pocket, but feel free to have a bump on me. Btw you might be interested in this if it's 5 string Wals you're after - noticed it earlier this evening - http://www.bassgear.co.uk/products-page/pre-owned/bass-guitars1/wal-mk-ii-1993-pre-owned/ -
Hmm not so impressed with DV247 now having found out that one item isn't due to be delivered until middle of July now :-( No mention of that when I ordered and I got the impression that it was in stock. Going to cancel and order from Thomann instead.

I bought a Gator rack case from Thomman yesterday, never having ordered from them before. Mightily impressed with their service - not only were around £30 cheaper than many UK dealers, but they also text me at 10pm last night to say it had been despatched. Highly recommend them. DV247 also excellent and will price match anything, though even they were reluctant to price match a Hartke VXL bass attack with Thomann. They did though, albeit with the mailing cost added on.
