  1. Hmm not so impressed with DV247 now having found out that one item isn't due to be delivered until middle of July now :-( No mention of that when I ordered and I got the impression that it was in stock. Going to cancel and order from Thomann instead.
  2. I bought a Gator rack case from Thomman yesterday, never having ordered from them before. Mightily impressed with their service - not only were around £30 cheaper than many UK dealers, but they also text me at 10pm last night to say it had been despatched. Highly recommend them. DV247 also excellent and will price match anything, though even they were reluctant to price match a Hartke VXL bass attack with Thomann. They did though, albeit with the mailing cost added on.
  3. Dagnammit, just bought a new LH500 from DV247, plus a VX410 off fleabay. Would had have the cab off you but too far from Devon for me at mo. Good sound? Have a bump on me anyway.
  4. Just seen this as well - https://www.facebook.com/events/163968737066907/
  5. A friend of mine swears by Picato strings - £7.95 a set from www.stringmail.co.uk - he has them on all of his basses, around 10 or 12 I think.
  6. I've been ringing quite a few lately asking for advice in my amp head search - the worst by far was Bass Merchant. The neanderthal I spoke to could hardly be bothered to talk to me, and had to look up what a Hartke LH500 was ffs. The best, and probably most helpful has been Gary at Promenade music - just wish that shop was nearer. Mansons are always helpful as long as you pick a day when it's not too busy and there's somebody who knows their stuff (Ralph or Adrian) in the bass department. Bassdirect also seem very helpful and I'd love to visit that shop if it was nearer. Having said all that I've gone with DV247 as they've price-matched for me and I get the 4 year warranty. Excellent customer service too.
  7. Andy Fraser and Tobi being interviewed here http://www.glastonburyfm.co.uk/ sometime after 7pm tonight.
  8. I've just noticed the site issues offshoot of site news - I should have posted there. Guess a moderator will move it if they see fit.
  9. Sorry but I wasn't sure where to post it initially. I wasn't able to post in site issues?
  10. A nods as good as a wink - to a blind bat
  11. Hmm can of worms opened I guess - still, whatever it's a great forum!
  12. I don't know if it's possible but is there any way for the BC owners/developers to add a 'like' button to posts? There are so many gems of posts on here it seems a travesty not to have one
  13. Their websites been hacked as well so I hear.
  14. Hi Yorick, yes he is - on the Garden Stage. I met Tobi a couple of months ago down in Devon and interviewed him for a magazine article I was planning to write. I see on Tobi's FB page that Andy has just arrived in the UK and is working with Tobi at the moment on his new album. I also heard rumours of a Free reunion, with Tobi being touted as the Kossoff replacement - again, all rumours.
  15. Welcome to BC Garey. I'm a bass convert after many years as a guitarist. A couple of years ago I picked up a secondhand Framus Custom Diablo which has quickly become my favourite guitar. Hopefully one day I will get round to trying out and maybe owning a Warwick bass as I think the workmanship on these instruments is outstanding.
  16. I've got a Mitsubishi Diamondpro 930SB 19" CRT (not flatscreen) monitor sat in the garage doing nothing which anyone on here is welcome to. I'm fed up with trying to get rid of it on Freecycle with many enquiries but nobody turning up to collect, grrr. I'd much rather it went to someone on here who could maybe make use of as maybe a second monitor in a studio setup? It's a big monitor so you'll need quite a bit of desk estate, plus you'll also need to collect. I'm in Devon but I would be happy to drive as far as Exeter or Plymouth to deliver if the recipient could contribute to fuel costs. This was a very good monitor in its time - I bought it for photo editing - and it's got a very nice, flat screen on it and is very bright and clear.
  17. Very... the photo was my reaction when the band told I was going to be gigging in 2 weeks time, as their bassist
  18. Welcome Alan from another guitarist turned bassist.
  19. Hi, I'm currently looking for a suitable head to match up with my Hartke VX410 cab. I was wondering if anyone has any experience of using TC Electronics equipment as I've been recommended the TC electronics BH500? Obviously, I know of them as an effects company but had no idea they produce amplifiers. I see JPJ and Nathan East are endorsees so must be pretty good gear. Grateful for any info. Cheers.
  20. Thanks Bert, I'm only 51 so a few years left in me yet I hope! (nice interests too btw, I also like the same ones)
  21. Hi everyone, this is my first time in a bass forum having been a twangy, six-string fret-noodler for the last 38 years (damn I feel old now!). I've always loved listening to bass players - Chris Squire, Jimmy Haslip and Tony Levin to name a few - and realised that I always seemed to be humming the bass lines to songs. I figured there must be something in it and made a few enquiries about bass lessons. Then out of the blue a couple of weeks ago I got a call from a drummer who I'd rehearsed with a few times some years ago and kept in touch as we liked each others playing. His band had unexpectedly lost their bass player and erm, would I be interested in trying out as their replacement bass player? One borrowed Fender Precison, Crate practise amp and a couple of frenzied days learning songs later and I was in the band. Result! So next week I'm playing my first gig in 17 years (that's not through want of trying to get bands together believe me) and with regular gigs lined up after that, all with the added bonus that it's the classic rock & blues numbers I know and love. I've got a bit of lost time to catch up on. I got myself a really nice Ibanez BTB400QM this week and a Hartke VX410 Cab off Fleabay, just now looking for a suitable head. Wish I'd taken up bass years ago and I'm looking forward to getting involved on here. Cheers.
