  1. It was in Berlin and IIRC Billy Preston was called in at the last minute because Isaac Hayes pulled out. I had the impression that the Funk Brothers formed the core of the band and they backed different artists at each gig depending on availability etc.
  2. The year after the Standing in the Shadows of Motown film came out, the Funk Brothers went on tour. They had various special guests, including, when I saw them Stevie Winwood and Billy Preston. Both of them were absolutely sensational.
  3. Very much so. I saw James Taylor about 2-3 years ago and his voice was still as pure and wonderful as ever. I suspect he still does all that stuff in the same keys too - respect.
  4. Gutted! Oh man, I’m so sorry. And after all that wait ‘n’all... 🤦‍♂️
  5. Oh my giddy aunt! That looks yummy - possibly even yummier than a packet of chocolate oaties (which is not something I would say frivolously).
  6. Please tell me you've let John Hall have a picture of this, under the title "There, fixed". It would simply make my day.
  7. Of course! God it’s so blindingly obvious when you lay it out clearly like that. @Jean-Luc Pickguard you are clearly not the real @Jean-Luc Pickguard and I claim my five pounds.
  8. I honestly believe that the only sensible thing to do now would be to have yourself cloned, have your clone leave the house and go to the shop to buy chocolate biscuits while the real you cunningly sit in wait for the UPS driver to try and post his evil card.
  9. I’m curious, I looked at the beginning of your thread and the bit about pick up positioning. Did you find the positioning on the OLP good or was there room for improvement? And, while I’m on the subject , do all OLPs have the same positioning or does it vary?
  10. Just in case you don’t already know, OLP stands for original licensed product. Ernie Ball licensed Hanser Holdings International to build MM copies. The OLP line turned out to be very good indeed for the price.
  11. What Quatschmacher doesn’t know about this stuff ain’t worth knowing. I keep telling him to offer bespoke patches online for a fee.
  12. Alternatively an OLP with upgraded pup and active pre-amp? Like this one for example: Cheap as chips and I’ve loved the ones I tried out.
  13. I played in a band many years ago who did a lot of show with a lot of energy. On a rare occasion where we failed to get an audience to react as we hoped, one of the lads commented saying, “What do we have to do, set fire to our heads?” From that day forth, the cry onstage if we had a difficult audience was, “Brrrrrring the petrol!”
  14. This might seem like a silly question, but my point is seriously intended. If your supposed to play to a crowd who are seated in a separate room anyway - why not perform in a room in Northampton and just send the signal (including video feed) through to a room in Gateshead?
  15. A nice gesture (perhaps?) but in practice - about as much use as a chocolate fireguard. The model is financially non-viable. There may be exceptions where it could work but these are a handful at best.
  16. Suffice as to say that a wide bore is not for the faint hearted.
  17. I love that colour. The headsrock reminds me a bit of my Sire.
  18. “Guaranteed to leave no stern untoned.”
  19. Can we agree on the term “chair” - things may otherwise become confusing and potentially very messy indeed.
  20. 15 Hz and under around 105 -dB – instant brown note.
  21. Aaaaah, back in the days when we were allowed to stand next to each other. That looks like loads of fun.
  22. A shortish, quiet spoken bloke - just comes in twice a week for 2-3 hours.
