1. I'm nearly done with the paintjob on mine, removed the pickguard, leaving the cavity open. Mine was a pig to play before but hopefully when I'm done with setting up to my preference it will be a lot nicer. Not played it through an amp in ages, used to sound muddy through my old Carlsbro. I'll let ye know when I restring and test and play through the Laney cab.
2. I'd gladly donate a bass for the photo shoot! I think the Kramer with Neons, or the Kiddies Nightmare bass would look good!
3. The Tanglewood Bassmaster Funk! Needs work, but a great bass. My second ever bass ( Traded a ratty Yamaha RBX170 + 100e for it ). Can't wait until it's 100% again
4. Have played a few, some good some bad. I won't preach about my bargain Jazz clone, but they do a P-bass variant too, although not as nice looking as the J clone. Another poster here was thinking of buying the J after seeing mine The Ripwood has gotten great reviews too: http://www.guitar-warehouse.ie/product_detail.asp?ProductID=61&Product=Stellah%20Ripwood%204-String%20Bass%20Guitar
5.
wow, these are some sweet jazz's. i always had a thing against cheap jazz's, because any one i ever played had a horrible neck and looked like feck all, but i can see that i have just been unlucky! (thats on the point of the farida) i should have photos of my new jazz bass up soon, as soon as i can bolt it all together.
Mine only cost 129e, fabulous neck, lovely sound!
6.
Jazzer so it tends to be black suit with black or white shirts for formal functions. Same with my function band. If its less formal, nice, smart/colourful shirt, jacket and clean trousers. I always think jeans look a bit naff, like you've just come off your allotment and t-shirts and hoodies make 50-year olds look a bit sad!
I wear nothing but jeans I'm mid twenties so I can get away with hoodies/tshirts I can't ever imagine playing a gig in a suit though! Only times I wore a suit in any way lately were for a funeral, a wedding, and working the door of a hotel ( made a change from the combats and black tee ). I play in comfortable clothes, but the hat is like my good luck charm, plus I can hide my face
7. I don't, and never will own a 'Fancy' bass. For one, the cost, two, I'm not a fan of most of the designs. I don't play anyway fancy, I use my fingers, and play a bit of slap when called for. I'd be much much happier using a middle of the road bass! None of my basses are fancy ( well, fancy as in handmade, hugely expensive ). While I respect the craftsmanship, and the playability, they are something which I personally, wouldn't like. My two cents. ( Yup, cents, I'm in Ireland, after all )
8. Your usual (if any) attire for playing gigs? For me, it's usually jeans and a hoodie, usually with a basebal hat, or beanie hat. Usually black hoodie aswell. Have to have the hats or I feel naked Who goes overboard, or has that one thing they HAVE to wear on stage?
9. As I said, quick recordings, very sick singer, not our own amps and a rushed recording....... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SPBfueGvGyg&feature=relmfu
10. Lets all get the family together for a group photo, then extended families. One big clan!! As it says,, rather than single 'My Family' threads, think of it as a reunion. Here's some of my family, not pictured is the slightly mad cousin who s currently undergoing psychiatric evaluation, and can be found in the 'Psychedelic paint job' thread.
11. Rather than that, I'd buy a EBMM, and spend the remainder on some beers, and a new 3D TV. Yup.
12.
You'd probably like this one then:
I don't like you! Your mother was a hamster, and your father smelled of elderberries!! But seriously, yes. Yes I do like that! Very much!
13. Just a very quick one, I'm in work after all, will do some mad ones when I get the chance. ( I know the neck PUP is out of alignment )
14. I don't like it!! Just personal preference I suppose. As was said, I too find custom basses awkward looking. Extra wood seems to shout 'I'm considerably more expensive, than you' ( I bet you read that in Harry Enfields voice ) Then again, I'm not a fan of Ric's either.
15. I'll have a full family pic soon I hope
16.
fantastic - you get a very cool business going here
I didn't paint this one, it was done with acrylic believe it or not. I'll have to give it some more clear coats in the coming weeks I'd say!! Get strings, a new battery, and set it up LOW!
17. Did you go for it?? I have yet to play through my own cab ( Used a fender rumble in rehearsals ) and the E was a but low. The rest of the strings boomed, and really has a nice tone! I'll be removing the neck PUP cover as it gets in my way, and maybe raise the pups a bit to rule out the low E string volume issue. Very playable and the tone was perfect! Bridge about 50%, Neck 100% tone rolled towards the treble side. Very happy!
18. What a load of bullshit!! A bands 'Image' seems to take the lead over musical abilities? Jesus, we are a mixed bag, our singer is a tiny female with a huge voice, one guitarist looks like Harry Potter, and is about 5'6", I'm well built and vary between bald and short hair with a smig of varying length depending on head hair length ( Very scientific process ), the other guitarist is a large fellow, and the drummer is your typical scrawny drummer. A mixed bag, but it's music people come to watch, not to look at how the band look. Some friends they were dude, F**K em!
19. It's taking shape! Need to try and see how well the clear coat I have on it will last! I'll leave it set fo a week or so, and have a close look!
20. Great to hear it's back! faith in humanity gets restored a little bit each time I hear of stories like this!
21. Not so much a video unfortunately. A quick recording, with a VERY sick vocalist, and not our own amps :-/ She's much better live/not sick lol. Ye get the idea anyway! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WgWTdvVJs_w
22. Last line I learned was um...... Probably a song I never realy wanted to play. ( Sweet child of mine ) Poison will be learned next, as will........... Higher Ground (RHCP version). Maybe schism for the laugh. Oh, I was listening to Bodyrox 'Yeah Yeah' and decided to play it. Good warm up. Using that now as a warm up as well as 'Bay when you're gone' by Brian Adams.
23. I love the maple/block look. then again, I love maple boards full stop
