USA Standard vs Special vs Highway One Precision Bass
gruffers replied to jimbojimbo's topic in Bass Guitars
Essentially the highway/special series don't have. hipshots (they have the Mexican style tuners) neck tints. hard cases. or high mass bridges, with the exception of the highway ONE which sports a BadAssII as standard. Highway 1's and specials have the BBOT. Both the HW ONES & the specials have posiflex graphite support rods. HW 1's have standard skunk necks. Only the US has through body stringing as previously mentioned (no biggy if your planning using flats as flats go through the bridge anyway) pickups are a bit of an enigma on the highway series though apparently they a US pickup made specifically for the highway series. -
A bit off topic, but didn't Fender change the specs slightly when they changed from Highway One to Highway 1? Anyone know what the changes were? I know the badass got a look in a some point, and there was a change in logo (and maybe headstock shape?) but were there any other differences - do know they were both nitro though. Google is terribly helpful even of you put 'Highway One' and 'Highway 1' in quotation marks and people seem to use the term interchangeably anyway.
HIghway 1 :- Poly finish. BBOT Bridge. Standard skunk neck. not sure about decal styling. Mexican style tuners Highway One :- Bad Ass II Bridge. Nitro finish. Posiflex graphite neck. 70's decal styling. Mexican style tuners. Pickups are apparentley a US Vintage Pickup made specifically for the Highway series.

If your planning on using WIn 7 and 32GB of RAM you need Win 7 Professional or above. 64 bit Win 7 Home Premium only supports 16GB. 32 gig is likely overkill. And even if your using 64 bit Windows, any 32 bit software you may use along side it will still only address memory within the limits of a 32 bit subsystem (roughly 4 gig) regardless of the OS supporting more....So unless your going to be running 64 bit versions of software go for less RAM. You can always add more later if required.

I've got an 07 Highway "One" Jazz bass. It's a 3 piece nice matched alder body. Has the US posiflex graphite rod neck. MIM Tuners and came with a BA II Bridge. Has translucent wine red "satin" nitro coat. Satin Poly on the neck. The body and neck are US Standard without a tint. The routing under the guard is clean so you can go without a pickguard if thats your thing. The tuners are same as the mexican's and the current range of specials. pickups are a bit of an enigma. But essentially the cost cuts over the US standard are. No hard case. No tinted necks. No hipshot tuners. No intensive man hours buffing out clear coats hence the "satin" nitro. It's not satin its just hasn't been rubbed out....I did that my self and it looks very nice too..

Help. What body finish stripping method is best ?
gruffers replied to Black Coffee's topic in Bass Guitars
I've just done the heat gun and scrape method on a poly finish. I rushed it a bit nice and quick BUT. There are too many scorch marks on the wood so it's going daphne blue instead of natural as I cant be bothered to carry on sanding of the scorched bits. If you take care not to scorch should be good. If it's a nitro finish easiest is nitromors. I did this to a 1989 Rickenbacker (doh) and it' pretty much wipes off. But this was before the internet was around to advise otherwise.....Although I believe nitromors has changed some of the ingredients recentley for health reasons. That says to me it's probably not as good now as it was in 1999. I heard Nitromors wont touch a poly urethane finish mind. -
jsut bought a fender bridge from andrew. arrived day after payment. good stuff
