Any BC’s doing refinishing?
Jean-Luc Pickguard replied to Bass Wielder's topic in Repairs and Technical
If I do get around to trying this, I'll probably do it to my telecaster bitzer, so there should be fewer sticky-outy bits to worry about, and the join could possibly around the outline of the back. There's a rig rundown of ZZ Top when Elwood was the guitar & bass tech, and he showed Billy & Dusty's 'Peelers' which look like they were left in a barn, but they're actually a custom bolin tele & precision with a custom printed vinyl wrap. -

I am sure it is a coincidence that the recommendation for sellers to use postit notes comes in the same week that Ped bought shares in 3M. -

Any BC’s doing refinishing?
Jean-Luc Pickguard replied to Bass Wielder's topic in Repairs and Technical
Another option that might be worth considering is to use automotive vinyl wrap like the stuff tossers use on their BMWs to make them irridescent purple. There are a few videos on youtube covering this and it looks a lot more straightforward than refinishing with paint. The only tools needed are an x-acto knife (about a fiver on amazon) and a heat gun (about £15 on amazon) I'm considering trying this on one of my guitars or basses. edit — Just googled for suppliers to get a ballpark price for wrap and came across a company called MDP supplies (I doubt it's him though) it seems the film is between £10-£25 for a piece about 1m x 1.5m depending on how fancy it is. -
I See A Darkness — Bonnie 'Prince' Billy If there's ever a live action futurama movie, for some reason, I think Will OIdham would be perfect to play Dr Zoidberg

An occasional wipe with a soft cloth with some mineral oil (or lemon oil) will keep them clean, or if they're a bit grubby it should help clean them up. If they're stainless steel flats like D'addario chromes (my string of choice for my mustangs), they should pretty much go on forever. If the surface is pitted or manky and/or they sound bad or don't intonate, its probably time to think about investing in a new set.

Yes, that's the one I have (actually I have two of them) It works like a dream for the JMJ with the extra route, but in my experience there's not enough room to get it in place on the vintera mustang.

One of the things JMJ presumably specified for his signature mustang that deviated from the his 1967 original is the truss rod access route and corresponding cutout in the pickguard. When I bought my first JMJ mustang it slightly irked me that this cutout wasn't vintage-correct, however having been able to adjust the truss rod effortlessly using the stewmac tool without even loosening the strings has far outweighed any initial reservations I had about how it looks. I am surprised that this simple feature wasn't carried across to the heel-adjusting vintera models as the vintera mustang currently in my possession needs the neck bolts to be loosened to get to the truss rod nut. Also the stewmac tool is so perfect for adjusting the rod on the JMJ, that it would seem to be a no-brainer for Fender to license it and include one with any bass it would work with, just like they include a hex key with every squier.

Here's my entry, "How The ✽✽✽✽ Did My Bike Get Up There?" This is the radio TikTok-friendly beeped version. There is also an uncensored version, which proves that I am neither big nor clever. That version cannot be embedded as I have set an age restriction on it per YouTube's rules. You can hear the uncensored version in all of its sweary glory on YouTube at the following link if you are logged into YouTube and don't mind a bit of gratuitous profanity → Unbeeped version for 18+ The stacked humbucking P90 of my Pelham blue Harley Benton DC Jnr FAT fuzzes up nicely with my Boss FZ-1W waza craft fuzz pedal. After trying a few things to get a convincing vox continental organ sound, I eventually redid the organ using logic's built-in vintage B3 organ instrument. The beep which replaces all umpteen instances of profanity is basically a 1khz sine wave, and the bicycle bell is a sample of a bicycle bell. After you have listened to my track, please be sure to rewind it back to the beginning so it is ready for the next person -
Using sleeves to pack out control knobs.
Jean-Luc Pickguard replied to NancyJohnson's topic in Repairs and Technical
I had a pair of knurled-shaft pots on a bass where I wanted to fit knobs made for solid shaft pots. To make it more difficult one of the sticky-out halves on one of the pot shafts had broken off. My solution to this was to mix up a small amount of milliput epoxy putty and use it to build up the pot shafts. It was very easy (and satisfying) to get the resultant diameter to match that of a solid shaft pot just by shaping it with my fingers, checking with a dial caliper gauge as well as eyeballing it and offering up one of the knobs to check the fit. I left it overnight and fitted the knobs the next day where they went on straight without issue. -
Did you know that the recording artist and former star of Emmerdale, Yungblud aka Dominic Harrison is the son of Justin Harrison of the 'Music Ground' Denmark Street Harrisons? I didn't until I saw the Trogly video documenting his new signature Epiphone SG Jnr. Justin Harrison, along with his late father Rick is probably best known for all sorts of dodgy shenannigans http://www.davidjpym.com/page459.html including selling stolen guitars and fake amps.
