Nothing good can possibly come from sanding the knobs. It might be easier to darken the pickguard. -

Can anything else be done for a heavy bass?

If you can source a spherical balloon with a diameter of 6.12 feet, fill said balloon with 162 cubic feet of helium and attach it to the bass, you should find that most, if not all of the weight is relieved. -

If the bugera can pump out 1000W, why does it only have a 200W speaker? Am I being thick? (if so, it won't be the first time)

I went for simplicity & low weight in my previous band so gigged with a single Schroeder 1212L. My current band already owned an Ashdown stack when I joined, so I use their cabs, an ABM210 & an ABM115, with my own Ashdown ABM600 Evo iv which I bought as their existing evo ii had a few quirks.

Not sure I'd risk buying a bass from aliexpress, but the Lekato WS-60 wireless system I bought from there is excellent, and can be used in mono or stereo mode to take advantage of rick-o-sound (on a real 4003)
