1. New Band time... SINGER: "Who's Pa are we gonna use ?" Band, Er Yours. Singer: But I spent £80 on this mic.
2. MAN calm down Bro..... Its only a Bass thats fallen over, if you did not put your stand on my mic cable, when I'm packing up......What you staring at me like that for ?
3. Looks or playing ? The CV looks the business, but the VM's quality and Duncan Pick ups really steal the show, they give the bass the thump needed to be heard live. I have had just about most Jazz basses made and two stand out. The VM Jazz plays and sounds like a dream. Or if you can stretch the Fender Mex 70's re-issue is the best of any Jazz bass I have ever seen or played, the pick ups are poor, but a quick swap to some duncans and for a budget you have a great Jazz bass. But the dilemma, the CV looks the part, the VM does the part. So make a choice, playing the VM, for keeps the CV.
4. Try one standing first and play moving around, they are a bit like ricks, in that that the body contour resembles a kitchen worktop, if your a real skinny guy, they are great, but if you get fed properly, you will miss the smooth cut outs of the precision and jazz basses
5. The action is horrendously high ? have you had it set up since the pics >?
6. One Finished, back in playing order RD 707, re-wired from scratch to use blend pot as it was designed.
7. You asked for an offer, you got one of £650 which is where I value it. You acuse me of been the reason why you can not sell the bass, Yes I have control over all the minds of the 4 million e.bayers. Then your next question, to which you threw the teddy over, Why I described the bass finish as poor. Firstly, the Finish, it does not have one, somebody has sanded it all off, to restore its value it would need to be re-finished back to jetglow. Attacking a Rick with a sander does not make it a mapleglow, they only select the finest grain basses to be mapleglow, then it also leaves the bass with an incorrect date and colour code, also effecting "value" Then we move on to the features, it has few original features, the pick up has been changed, the horseshoe is an e.bay add on, the toaster could be periodic ? , the bass has extra screws in the bridge, again non standard and deeming from a value prospective. The inlay in the neck is lifting, this is a sign the rod is pressing on it. Then we move on to the Bass needs a complete re-fret, on a bass with edge neck binding and over fret lacquer, this is an expensive process. So I have answered the questions you "demanded" answers to, so you can now run to the Mods with yet ANOTHER complaint. Quite frankly I dont care, let them ban me, if speaking the truth is a forum crime, then I am guilty as charged. You were asked for offers, I made one, you wanted £850 I offered £650 to open negotiations, you flew off the handle we could have met around £775> But alas out went the baby with the bath water. Of course, there will be no end of "chums" along to state how wrong I am and your bass is in fact the best 1973 Jetglow on sale.
8. Whats the problem with the set up, can you be more specific ? is the neck convex out or is it just untidy to play, these are these hardest bar none of the Rick Range to set up, it can be done, but requires 3 people, a 1 meter metal ruler and a torque wrench.
9. verse Bf Bf F G Bf F CC F Ef Ef Bf C Ef trying to get back home is G# High F Another Bit matters is Ef...... Bf.....G G# High F then it just repeats small f for flat eg Bf = B flat A lot of those tabs are often written by people who dont know what key the song is in.
10. Here is a Rick sound. Marshall valve head 4001 rotosounds http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9F_FqbZ0iJY
11. If he has a compass, check polarity on pickups, they can be flipped on the magnets which does give more hum cancellation but a much weaker out put, use a compass, both should be the same polarity for maximum output, unlike say a jazz where they are opposite. It was a common mod on older ricks as a lot of valve amps really hummed.
12. If it has no CE sticker on the Bass UK Customs will ask for absolute proof that the bass is not been imported, so you would need copper bottomed travel documents listing the bass as outbound luggage, they do not "do" excuses" The luggage slip should say : bass Guitar, serial number XXXXXXXXXX type : ringer bass( make and model), Colour : rosewood(colour description) Approximate age
13. If this is an instrument in production it needs an engineering solution to prevent it happening, they could quite easily fit a titanium plate on epoxy resin which would double as a common earth and strengthen the front of the instrument. It is not as if this is a budget instrument where such weakness should be expected.
14. Think I have just wet my pants. What can I sell
15. On Ricks, bridges still bend up and fingerboards lift if you use heavy roundwounds on 4003, on 4001, it was a dead cert. Also on a Fender if your neck has a bow, you can get a key and tighten it up, on a Rick touch the nuts on the Rod at your peril. I do think Rickenbackers are a decent bass, bit of a one trick pony and a dog to play comfortably standing up, but the absolute ridiculous price for them is beyond a joke, as most find out, a quick look at e.bay will soon tell you that. What has happened as well is they have stopped doing what Rickenbacker normally do, make different colours one year. In the past you had black binding 4003, blood red, real midnight blue, natural with black binding, white with back binding and the gorgeous black with black binding. What on earth has gone wrong at the factory for them to just stick to making one set of colours with one option on hardware and binding, so now if you do buy a Rick, you have to have what the guy in the next band has and so on. hardly exclusive when they churn out all the same day in day out. The brand has had a good revival, but it is over now, even JH knows this hence why he is on the offensive again, looking for people to blame for the downturn. All I say, is go back to doing what you did best, making unusual and beautiful basses that can not be copied and they wont be copied, but continue churning out the same old same old and you are asking for them to be copied. Its too easy, they never change.
16. 2 more high builds and wet and dry have lost 99% of imperfections, so on with 2 coats of top and wet and dry again and 2 more top coat which will get 1200 then buffed. Stating to look like a bass. Home made jig out of a vice and typist chair
17. Good sale ! right on the nugget, another month and £750 would have been it.
18.
Does your Fender have a through neck, twin truss rods, and stereo output?
No, But a few of My Ricks do...
19. Why does your Warwick and fenders have a middle pick up that looks like a chromed tobacco tin attacked with tin snips.....
20. They have a right clank on the sound, Give any Rick a run for its money !
21. It will be if I can not work out the wiring ?? I have never seen as many earth wires. Its is a volume. blend pot and tone set up. A p pick up and a jazz
22. Has anyone else noticed the "shortage" of fireglow 4003 on E.bay ? Where do these dreamers get these prices from ? They can be picked up from the shelf around £1250
