2.
Hi Dave, I have LMK and GS212 set up. Could you be the Dave that is friends with my mate Stuart?
that would be me....I bought them off Stuarts other pal Shaun (4000) I think Stu only has three friends.... So are you taking yours then ? (Well that makes no sense now you deleted your thread....)
3. Whats down gear wise then ? Just trying to sort out if anybody wants me to bring my Mark bass / Aguilar cabs down with me. Dave
4. STICKER Just had the all clear from Mrs P. Traveling up/across with Alan from ACG and Peter (Greenking), Sounds like a nice day trip out....!! Bit further than the Lytham bash from home but hey...its all good I will chat over with Peter/Alan, but one of us could bring a long a Mark Bass head and GS112 cab for others to try out, unless somebody is already bringing along that combo...?? Dave
5.
and I can tell you it will sound even better.
Hope so Steve... . Its taken me 15+years of playing the same Status to move onto something else. I know it will play like a dream, and Alan spent lots of time getting the measurements the same as my status (standard older Status 15mm 5 string spacing), but the Pre Amp is still a little bit of wild card for me. With my Status I just crank everything up to 11, and bingo, its the sound I like...I may actually have to start thinking about what I am doing with Alan's Pre This aint going to be a 'coffee table' bass built just for show...its going to be my main gigging bass for as long as I can keep wiggling my pinkies. Dave
6. Only wish I had a drooling smiley face to hand...
7. Latest shots from ACG HQ...of my headless harlot Just the pickup cavities to do then on with the sanding. Happy days I asked Alan to take a little bit more off the front facing to show the inner core contrasting wood, and also send over a few shots of the rear tuner area. The man is a legend.... And here is great shot showing how profiled and slim the upper body is Dave
8. Nice bits of wood Stuart....!! Good to see you again pal..... Will keep my eyes on this build, that top wood is lovely, even better in the flesh.... Very nice to meet your better half as well...! Dave
9.
...You didn't see a huge great 9 string whilst you were there did you??
I really meant to take a closer look at yours, but It was in the spray booth, and discussion and other bits of wood clean distracted me....... Must only be a matter of days for yours now........ Looking forward to the photos at least....
10. Not updated this thread for a while..... latest shots from the ACG world of wood Lots of profiling to be done yet, especially to the rear tuner area...but Damn, I am happy so far. Got to say its superb that Alan takes the time to send over photos and discuss the whole progress of things with you, it makes the whole process so much more personel than just buying an off the shelf instrument.... Called up to ACG HQ with Peter to pick up his finished Harlot 4 string singlecut, and took the chance to check out my headless.....very, very pleased. Sorted out a couple of issues with placement of the electronics and also road tested a pair of new pickups that Alan had just fitted to a stock bass, very powerful single coils. They sounded powerful and plenty of low end and top end twangyness. Opted for a pair on my bass now The weight of this bass is fantastic (its one of the things I was keen to keep down) and it still has a fair amount of wood to be removed. Once the hardware/electrics are added it will probably be a very similar weight, or possibly a bit lighter. Happy days indeed. Probably another 6ish weeks..... Thanks to Peter for the photos !!
11. Peter is one lucky man.... Got to say this bass is stunning in the flesh. I'm not a massive fan of single cuts (purely on looks) but Alan's do impress me every time. But damn, when peter opened up the case and we saw the finished article....stunning. This Harlot is a very small bodied bass making the neck look a little longer in scale than it is, I love it. Very light weight and the electrics are awesome....its a dream to play. I can't comment enough on how nice a guy Alan is, and how spending time going through all the little bits of the build is just of no apparent problem for him.... Looking like another 6ish weeks for my headless ACG....It will be my turn to drive up to moffatt then Peter....your turn to eat the biscuits at Alans... Nice to meet up with Stuart (bassbunny) at the wonderful world of ACG.....no he aint my Dad...hes just older and almost as bald as me.......His bass is going to be another stunner..... Dave
12. Just bought a Korg effects unit form Ray, spot on , no problems and well packaged. Cheers pal Dave
13. I have have had dealings with peter both selling and buying bass gear over the last 12 months, and he is as honest and genuine as you can imagine. Top fella. Dave
14.
I'm quite impressed with the spec on the SWR Workingpro 12 Would it be loud enough for (small) gigs? Thanks, Mark
I use the same mark bass and Aguilar cabs (only recently got the Aguilars) I doubt very much indeed if that SWR would even come close to a pair of the Aguilars..... but perhaps if it was tilted back pointing up at you it would work better in your situation. As an experiment why not try a single Aguilar tilted right back like a monitor to see how that works out ?
15.
two different failures in the crossover - wires snapping between components and the circuit board caused complete failure of the cab
Got to admit to being a little suprised when I saw the Zoot cabs using standard off the shelf crossover units, and crossovers that I have been told are not that great in the first place... A big part of a good cab design is the specific designed crossover. Dave
16.
Offers anyone? Incoming gear means this lot has to go.
Pm sent Dave
17.
I A/B'd an Aguilar GS112 with my Trace 15 and (This hurts for me to say)..... (Run for cover).... The little Aguilar had a warmer bottom end. Not as loud as the Trace watt for watt, but that's Ok I can blend with my amp.
4000 did a similar test with his trace 15 and the Aguilars (that I bought off him), and found the very same, the Aguilars had a fantastic btm end.....
18.
Thanks! Quite a fearsome bit of kit. How similar does it sound to the Omni cabs I tried at the bash? I was impressed with them... ped
The DR range are far better sounding cabs than the Omni's 10's from my experience, having said that, I built DR280's, slightly bigger and a little more btm end. Big cabs though. The DR's are very efficient, possibly a little shy on the btm end with one DR250, but the clarity is fantastic, especially once you add the piezo back into the equation
19.
t my zoot 4x10 let me down on gigs
What exactly happened ?
20.
....If anyone out there has fitted an AC preamp into a Status, I for one would be most interested to see how that combo works...
Very probably on the cards after I take delivery of my Harlot. I have a Status Empathy 5 string and a Series 2000 fretless 5 string that I think will enjoy a retrofit if Alans pre-amp does all I think it will...
21. Wembley speakers can help you out on the repairs They repaired some SWR drivers for me some time ago Dave
22. My father started me on drums when I was about 15, my brother tought drums, so it was sort of an obvious thing to do.....I didnt get on with setting up the drums - to much trouble for a 15 year old so it didnt last long. Later that year when I was 16 I remember watching a concert with (Huey Lewis and the news) with the bass player playing a steinberger headless and stood back wearing black shades looking cool as you like.......It was the defining moment for me....I remember thinking...that looks easy.... Never wanted to play anything other than bass, more than happy with that choice to.... Dave
23. Perhaps get rid of the word 'feeler'......Its either up for sale or it aint ....(sorry, its a pet hate of mine....) Have a free bump anyway
24. You know, I never thought that the Aguilars are not neo drivers just assumed they where .....explains why they are not the very lightest of the bunch then.... So use to big and heavy cabs that anything else is lightweight..... The strap handles I have had on all of my gear over the years have started to fail where the handle flexes against the part that is secured to the cab, I takes a few years, but has always happened (mainly on flightcases). This has been on a mixture of Monitor amp cases (fairly heavy), Bass amp (SWR & ampeg flightcases) and a couple of small lightweight monitors. I had a pair on the front lid of my ampeg flightcase snap just as I was carrying it in to a gig...and that was not a funny moment, granted the amp weighed a lot. (Ampeg SVT IIpro) ... Time is the only factor that will tell if the strap handles hold up to life on the road, they are lightweight cabs after all.
25. This worked really well for me Alex on the btm of the Omni 15:- One handle would be more than enough I'm sure Your cab looks the exact same width as the Omni 15(standard flightcase rack width) and I had no problems wheeling it through any doors. The same can't be said of my old SWR 6x10 tilt back, or indeed most standard larger width cabs. I have now joined the ranks of the masses using a pair of small neo 1x12's, and genuinely could not be happier. I know I have said it before Alex, but I would ditch the strap handles entirely....over a period of time they have a tendency to start to crap out. Dave
