Sorry - my fault... didn't know how much you know. Why shouldn't you use those - it was merely a suggested starting point, as a lot of 'theory' is. That is just a combination of notes that works, and if you start at different places (for example on the E or D) you will create different intervals that will work together. There is nothing wrong with using majors and minors together... Its just you said that you thought there was something not right with the combination of notes you used, and from just looking at them (and not playing them) I thought this might be it? How do you tell the difference between major and minor? By ear, basically, major is happy and minor is sad. When you are playing, if you played a C on the A string for example (the 3 fret), you could move down 1 fret on the d string (fret 2) for a major third and down 2 frets (fret 1) for a minor third. That works all over the neck... next string up and down one fret for major, down 2 for minor. Does that help? ANy other questions feel free to ask! Alex.

Well there's work and theres work i guess!? All you've got there is a ombination of 5ths, 4ths and 3rds really. The reason in might not sound right is because sometimes your using a minor 3rd (i.e in the second bar) and sometimes your using a major 3rd (last chord before the repeat mark) - so you might get a bit of contrast that way. You could try thinking modally and in c major to start with. Basically, don't use and sharp or flats (black notes on the piano), so just A B C D E F G and that should shound nice(ish) as a starting point. But - i think your ear should be the thing you concentrate on most. Alex.

2 Bass Bridges for sale... both taken from Fenders. First, a 5 string bridge from a MIM 5 string Jazz bass. Chrome bridge and saddles, black screws etc. VVGC £10 posted? Secondly, a 4 string bridge - apparently taken from a new MIA bass (I got it in a trade) - looks like a high mass type; sturdier than the MIM one for sure. Crome bridge and saddles, black screws etc, with silver springs. Honestly, looks unused. £15 posted? Any questions please ask! Cheers Peeps! Alex.

I've just had a read through this, and agree with Bassassin - on the whole, comments were helpful and intended to help the seller. We all know that £900 was to much basically. But, I do think a couple of emoticons on the first page didn't help matters. Maybe PMs would have been a more subtle way to let the seller know about more reasonable prices?

Hi, I'm gonna sell my Ibanez Practice amp. Its the SWX65 - a new model. Truely is excellent; I tried it against Orange, Ashdown, Laney, Marshall, Line 6 and Peavey Amps of similar value and it blew them away. Could hold its own in quiet regearsals too. Excellent condition. Cost £165 in January... Looking for £100 Will be on Ebay tonight, but I'll end the auction for basschatters!

Scratchplate and control panel parts for USA Jazz V

You think finding one for an American Jazz is hard - try finding one for a Mexican Jazz 5! -

I use all fingers on my fretting hand... I think double bassists don't use their middle finger in first position - maybe thats something to do with you not using it?!?

+1 I think you'r paying quite a lot for the name on the bad-ass. The Gotoh does look very nice, but i went for a schaller - more adjustable, looks good, high mass and it really works!

Bought my Bass Synth Wah... prompt payment, very polite and drew a nice little picture on the letter accompanying the cheque. What more could i ask for!?!
I got my fretless Wal in 1986 and have loved it ever since! It makes so much sense to me to find a bass that does it for you and then work on the music. GAS is a great way of kidding yourself that the problems with your playing are with your gear not with your competences as a player. I hope you and your 5 have a long and fruitful relationship.
So true - think that might upset certain people on here tho!

I've now been offered a job, but I'm scared...

With playing... all experience is good experince I think. Although the semi-pro thing might sound daunting now, I'd go for it. But, be honest, don't make out you can do stuff that you cant
