  1. I was at the Rush gig on Thursday too. I was seated durectly behind the mixing desk and had a totally clear view of the stage. However, I did something I've never done before - I left after half an hour as I was bored senseless. I found myself studying the ceiling girders rather than the stage. The sound was appalling, really odd as I was effectively hearing what the sound engineers were hearing. I was back home by 8:45pm watching the David Bowie "Five Years" documentary on the BBC iplayer - far more enjoyable. So, that was £60 down the drain (plus booking fee). I hope The Who's sound is better on the 12th.
  2. I really liked Lou Reed and Metallica when they were on. I thought they were doing something totally unique.
  3. Andy originally learned to play on a left handed bass, so he got used to the dtrings being that way. Jimmy Haslip is a left hander who learned to play on a right handed bass, turned round so he got used to the "upside down" layout.
  4. I'm seeing them in Glasgow nect Thursday. One of my work colleagues has just arrived in Manchester for the gig tonight. I'm extremely envious!
  5. The old Guitar Player magazines were fantastic. I recently bought the early 80's issue with Andy Summers on the cover. Really in depth.
  6. Do you know any secondary school teachers? If so, they could get someone in the metalwork department to make something up?
  7. Yup, regwrdless of whether your purchase is a new, or used item, it'll still be considered fot the horrible import duty and VAT
  8. Watching the DVD - during the section about Bernie Leadon pouring the beer over Glen Frey's head - I was thinking, "why is the theme tune to The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy playing in the background? ". A quick google search revealed thst the theme tune was sctually a segment of the Eagles' track "Journey Of The Sorcerer". Well I never, who would have guessed? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7rOMGIbY-9s&feature=youtube_gdata_player
  9. I too have bought the 3 DVD boxset. Fantastic stuff. The band's catalogue of songs and their vocal harmonies are wonderful. I have to agree re Glen Frey and Don Henley, BIG egos, with Frey's being incredibly over inflated - he comes accross as a real dick. Its interesting to see how the members have aged. Randy Meisner is practically unrecognizable from his 70's persona, as is Bernie Leadon due to the loss of his trademark curly hair. Joe Walsh is looking good, but his voice has the tell tale slurring to mark the many years of indulgence. Don Felder looks fantastic. I guess being removed from the stress of the Eagles environment has been good for him? Have you read his biography "Heaven and Hell"? That's a good one, aven after Frey and Henley's laeyers did their best to neuter the content. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JLcL4MkpJQ4&feature=youtube_gdata_player
  10. Sonnet - sorry to hear thst you've experienced the same level of service I received. Hope your bank gets the payment brecalked without too much delay
  11. Fantastic bsnd! Seeing them play live on New Year's Eve 1981 in Edinburgh changed my life as a bass pkayer. The band were fantastic, and I still love them. However, the big inspiration fir me was the young unknown bassist playing with the support band. Support act was Jools Holland just after he had left Squeeze. The bass player? Pino Palladino. I've read all three of The Police members' autobiograohies, every one of them being great reads, with Andy Summers one being a particularly engrossing read.
  12. It's the luck of the draw whether you get stung with import duty. The limit at which charges are levied is now £18. I've had items arrive with no charges, and had many others with big charges compared to the actual buying cost (compounded by tge Parcelforce admin charge). If you factor in the charges and don't get hit, its a bonus
  13. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5u01h22Y0L4&feature=youtube_gdata_player Try Shuffler (after all, look who's playing the bass, guitar and drums!) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFL1Mray3lY&feature=youtube_gdata_player https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HqiJNy9qAt4&feature=youtube_gdata_player

  16. Please put positive vibes out to Paul and his family as his oldest son has been in and out of hospital since Tuesday. Still needing further medical attention.
  17. Pimo changed my whole outlook on what a bass player could be when I saw him in a support band on New year's eve 1981 in Edinburgh. I had been playing for a couple of years and thought to myself, "I want to play like THAT". More than 30 years and I still use him as my reference point.
  18. Great! Thanks for the advance notice.
  19. Andy Summers' biography "One Train Later" is a great book.
  20. My friend David King is a big Rush fan. He's been to a few of tgese events, and played at the "Idol" night last year (he's a guitarist).
  21. I'm going to the Glasgow show - and i'm really looking forward to it. I saw the Time Machine gig 2 years ago too.
  22. What was the name of the second album by M (yup, of Pop Musik fame), where Level 42 were the musicians on it? I had the album ages ago
  23. In the early interviews Nick said he used Wal basses in the studio.
