1. Here we have my Sadowsky DI- as new- never gigged. Make your bass sound like a £2000 Sadowsky. Used this on my Fender Jazz to tweak the tone. Really great DI- built like a tank- great EQ- has a sound all of its own. Comes with Box and instructions. http://www.sadowsky.com/accessories/preamp.html £120 incl delivery- UK only sorry.
2. Amazing VT Bass Pedal for sale- you all know what these do. From warming up your tone to full on distortion. Sound like an SVT at normal volume. Boxed with instructions. http://www.tech21nyc.com/products/sansamp/characterseries.html £100 delivered- UK only sorry.
3. Broke my collarbone at croft racetrack and still managed to play that weekends gig, sat down . Five kinds of agony though. Broke my right foot and was black and blue all over from an off with castrol Honda. Still managed that gig - but a standing gig for some strange reason. Broke my little finger mountain biking- that was a no show. Stands to reason, the faster you go, the safer you are ( for gigging ).
4. Something with serious grunt? Less than £600? Like the Kilo? I have a LH1000 Hartke- all the power of the Kilo but a more simple EQ- great tone- can work bridged and will put our 750W into 8 ohms- or 1000 into two 4 ohm cabs. I use this with the Hydrive 410 cab which is 8 ohms. Massive headroom- lovely warm tone. Use this in a soul band with a Jazz bass- switch off the tweeters- still great clarity. Murdered my Markbass LM2. Can be had for about £440 from the tinternet. Recommended.
5.
Thanks.Sounds great. You mean this one? http://www.google.se...52F%3B540%3B720 I have never tried or heard Shroeder cabs other than from their website, where they all sound very much Jaco Pastorius-like low-mid focus, and not much bottom end.But ofcourse things are different in real life. And this cab is obviously different then. Not sure they even had a soundclip of the 1515L.So I'm sure it sounds as good as you say. I'll look into what is said on talkbass also as it gets quite good reviews there too. The thing is though that I'm kind of set on Tecamp and don't want to have too much to choose from. I know what they sound like roughly and just can't say what size of cab is needed.I have narrowed it down to Tecamp so to speak. What they seem to have is an extreemly smooth and even sound with quite round low end.But as I said I'll try to find out how the 1515L sounds like too.
Thats the one. More low mid than ultimate low end.
6.
Thanks for the info on Thiele Jazzneck, I have learnt a great deal from that. Geoff, the LB30 and Barefaced compact is more like I was thinking, but it seems the power stage valves are different from the B15. Would still like some similar options with valve amps and cabs like this to consider too. Ahpook, The Flipster looks cool, would be interested to hear one. Discreet and Chrismuzz, I have spent some hours with my B3 and am getting some fantastic results. I know the purists will be upset but it can sound great. 6V6, I would love to get a clone from Fliptops, but I expect it'd actually be cheaper to get an original B15N Thumperbob, I have also spent a good few hours on the Bass POD and X3 and can never get quite what I'm after. Have you any .l6t files you could send me of your efforts? Would be very interested to hear how you got on. I also fired up the V4B again today and it sounds great, but not like a B15. Has anyone got the Bass POD, Zoom B3 and a VT bass that could offer a comparison on their respective B15ishness?
Wouldnt even know how to do this ( l6T files )- I have a VT Bass though and the Basspod murders it in every way.
7. Nothing is truly new and I find we really do get messed up by the detail- will there be another Beatles? There probably is a genius type band singing in Cantonese somewhere- ( but we wouldnt know that ) Who cares about innovators- the audience?- I very much doubt it. Typical musician speak. I do hate mediocrity but everyone is innovative in some way. We are all individuals!!!............"I`m not"
8. Schroeder 1515L - had one of these- absolutely tiny- same size as a 1 x 12 - weighs nothing- 4 ohms so your amp will be fine with that. Massive tone and power- can be had for a little over £400.
9. I played at my wedding- but only did a few songs- same as I played at my 50th and just did 30 mins. There will be lots of gigs but not lots of Weddings, 50ths etc. Get a dep and enjoy the day.
10.
Tone is the most important thing at any gig and at any volume. If you drove a cab then you wouldn't run an Aston Martin or a Mini so "horses for courses" is a consideration but tone should always first on the list. I think the OP is describing someone who just doesn't understand their gear or what their role is in a band. That's not a problem with the gear.
Tone is all in the fingers and ears and most amps can give me the tone I want- however all wont give me the power I want too. This is what I meant. My point was if you know what you are doing massively expensive rigs are not really required.
11. I like the sound of my bass so would love to leave the EQ flat- but then no amp is truly flat in any event. Does not matter one jot where the knobs are, its what the sound is like. People that cant be heard in a band environment most likely will either- Be too quiet ( Go Figure!! ) Have a scooped EQ- almost all the local bands I have seen do this- what sounds good in your bedroom does not work live( scooped EQ ) Have other band members in their frequency range- keys- guitars- drums mostly. My Markbass through a schroeder1212L had all the knobs straight up with a Jazz bass- sounded great and cut through- though that rig itself was mid heavy.
12. Its all about value-if you are playing small venues power is less important than tone. Loads of great value bass amps on this very forum. However paying £2K for a rig- ( I have done it ) is very much overkill- like buying a Fodera!! I really do fancy a full SVT rig though- but wont because I know it will be so impractical.
13. Line 6 Basspod plus many hours of programming and its there. Useless standard tones, but with 7-10 hours of getting to know it- programming- there are loads of great valve tones. In isolation you will know the difference between this and B15N, SVT, Fender Bassman etc- though in the mix, whether live or recording into a desk you will not. Just opened a can of worms Methinks...
14.
That looks cool, so you made a new front panel that sits on top of the original grill?
Yeah- great cabs, just look a bit too modern for my old school self. Looks a bit naff in the photo but miles better in real life. Bit of vinyl covered wood frame and proper speaker cover.
15. Loads of guitars that never get played. Thumb NT 5 not played for an Eon. Low End Jazz 5 not played for ages. Both incredible basses. A shame really. Just gone back to fours.
16. Also use this- 1 X 15 Fender bassman Combo- amazing!!
17. 4 X 10 Hartke Hydrive- honest!!
18.
Not me. But I know a drummer who doesn't mind a bit having being replaced milliseconds before a huge '80s singles band broke, but really, really minds his one-time musical partner taking their co-invented stage double act and turning it into a multi-million pound internationally franchised show, without giving him a penny in recognition, ever. Harsh business…
How can a drummer be a musical partner?
19. That's not abuse, a few w****r signs! Man up.
20. Got a hartke lh1000 from them. Very very cheap and delivered very quickly. Recommended.
21. I bought a rig once from dogs d ,amour which consisted of a fender pre amp' fender power amp, 4 x 10' and 1 x 15 all in two massive flight cases. Filled the van. Sounded great but was the most rediculous rig ever. Imagine reaching over your head to tweak eq. My ears are still ringing.
22. I have the LH1000 and the Hydrive 410. Initially I had the problem about the mid range not being powerful enough- got a couple of pedals to sort- used a BMC Mid Control and/ or Cheap ten band graphic. However once I switched the tweeter off these pedals were not at all needed. They really do scoop the sound terribly. I have the mid control at 10 and the bass and treble at 2 - and sometimes have these at 0 if the room needs it.
23. I myself have had all sorts of rig but have recently gone back to a four string Jazz and Fender bassman TV 15 combo. Now I cant stand tweeters, active basses, loads of effects. I feel these things take away the organic/ retro/ old school feel of a simple rig. I`m 50 now but at 30 I was way out there- I have had many many quality rigs but theres something about 15s and Jazzes.....
24. I must admit I have bought gear in the past hoping for it ( amp/ cab / bass / pedal ) to give me a particular tone, but overall that was just codswallop. It really is in the fingers- I find that setup and strings do more than anything else really, when the right technique is applied. One stack of gear , without being in a band mix can sound very much different to another stack, but in a band environment- ( where its important to judge ) its all in the playing. As Marcus Miller said - you can buy all the cool gear etc but when you have two pickups, fingers, and an amp with EQ, you have a LOT of options open to you.
