  1. I'm walking backwards for Christmas- The Goons
  2. Yes, a 40hz cut is handy, but imho probably better done on the amp. I do frequently boost the lows for a particular song or two mid gig via the bass controls - having a boost at 40hz isn't as useful as a cut at this range. A comment further back mentioned a control cutting at 40hz and boosting at 80hz. That sounds simple and covers both requirements. IME the additional mid controls are usually centred a bit higher and so don't boost lows.

  4. This is probably the clue as to why. Though I've no idea what that second sentence means🤔
  5. I can't claim to have conducted an extensive analysis, but certainly most that I have looked at seem to be 40hz. That Audere has the highest bass frequency I've seen by a long way. Interesting! Glad you like it.
  6. My recent acquisition of a 32" Ibanez Mezzo 5 string has been an eye opener. I've got quite small hands (can handle my 37" Dingwall though...) and at a recent rehearsal there was a moment on the Ibby where the shorter scale clicked and it all just felt so damn easy - I could actually 'play' about a lot more than my meager talents usually allow. Plus, it sounds awesome in the mix. I think 30" might feel a bit short, especially for 5's - and there only seems to be the Ibanez Mezzo and a Warwick Corvette 5 available in 32" 'off the peg' -but I'm definitely a fan now - so keeping an eye out and maybe considering moving on a 34"incher or two.. even edging towards the scary 'custom build'...
  7. Ooh - that's sexy - in a wires and knobs kind of way 😉
  8. This seems to be the ultimate solution https://www.noll-electronic.de/bass-electronics/tcm-3-p/
  9. Yes, that's my understanding too. 40hz centre is probably fine for cutting. But, should a song call for a bit of extra 'on the fly'bottom then it would probably be better to lift centred in the 'useful' range of the curve, centred a bit higher, with the deeper 40hz being down the bell curve a bit.
  10. Exactly my thoughts. My Dingwall has a Darkglass Pre which I think is at 70hz and that adds plenty of useful bottom, but there doesn't seem many that aren't 40hz.
  11. Just an observation really but it seems that most on board active pre amps have the bass control centred at 40hz. I know there are exceptions to this, but 40 hz seems bordering on the fringes of muddiness. Obviously everyone has a different idea of the perfect tone, but it seems quite a few of us regularly reduce or cut frequencies that low. Just seems that 40hz seems to be 'standard' - am I missing something?
  12. I've had very good service from Sandberg and EBS - it's the little things. I'd lost one of the grub screws from a machine head on my Sandberg and emailed to ask what size I'd need to source to replace it. Couldn't quite work it out - they just popped a couple in the post. Similarly with EBS, I bought a second hand pedal and it had some screws missing - same query as above - same result. They were also great when my HD350 developed a fault, went off to Essex Amp Repairs (they are good too!) who said that they'd need to source the part from EBS as it was a bit unusual. They reported back that they'd also had great support - then raved about the build quality of the amp.
  13. Kinky Boots - Patrick McNee and Honor Blackman
  14. The Ballad of Bonnie and Clyde - Georgie Fame
  15. Tonight I'm Gonna Rock You Tonight - Spinal Tap
  16. Well this little bass is really annoying - my band prefer it to all my others, it feels great to play and is a right little bruiser in the mix. Makes me wonder why I've got these nice 'quite expensive' other basses. 😏
