  1. Now I'm over 50, I thought I should try some flats 😏 My only previous experience was of some Steve Harris signature ones, which felt like playing with welding rods rather than strings and so they didn't last long. So, I just picked up a cheapy set of Olympia flats for a tenner to try on my BB. Have to admit I quite like the feel of these (not a stiff as the SH ones, but still stiffer than rounds), so I'm wondering about trying a set on my Sandberg (5 string J/MM.) I've had a look and see some flats described as high/medium/low tension but that's a bit subjective. Has anyone got any steer on brands and gauges that would be similar in tension/flex to rounds? My Sandberg is currently strung with a 120-40 set. Want to keep the growl, don't mind losing a bit of 'ching.' 😎 Cheers all!
  2. And I bet Lionel Ritchie wasn't dancing up there either.
  3. Rock and Roll can indeed be noise pollution AC/DC - I know, the police have turned up to our gigs and told us so...
  4. Mr Barry Manilow claims that the Copacabana is the "Hottest spot north of Havana" Now, Copacabana is in Rio, Brazil which is south of Havana - so he must be referring to the Copacabana club of New York. New York can get pretty damn cold and is certainly not as hot as Death Valley, which I would suspect is actually the hottest spot north of Havana - though not known for show girls called Lola.
  5. Mine definitely needs it's own isolated supply
  6. Shouldn't have watched these - cabs are ok, but now I want a Wattplower!!
  7. Tort scratch plates are the bass equivalent of a beige cardigan - put one on any bass (but especially a natural wood one) and it'll soon be passing you a Werthers Original and smelling faintly of wee.
  8. I think I could do with a gig to wake me up a bit.. I've been missing rehearsal probably more as I enjoy getting together for the social and working on material.
  9. Another +1 for the Ibanez Mikro - my daughters now 8 and 10 get on well with theirs. It's light, sounds and looks good and is great fun for me to play too! 🙂 Kids like to make noise so a practice amp will probably be the best call, but if it goes well keep an eye out for a headphone amp of some sort. Your son can practice and play along with songs on these by putting an Aux input into it from an audio source. I use a Zoom B3 but that has a lot of inbuilt effects which would probably be a bit too much of a distraction when starting out.
  10. Ha! Love the instant censorship, for clarity I'm talking about a male chicken, a Cockerel without the 'erel' 🤣
  11. Hi all Has anyone tried the EHX pink torpedo Fight or pink torpedo Fight Plus? I quite like the fixed filter effect with fuzz and just wondered how these stack up in the real world? Cheers
  12. Hi all I've accumulated one too many amps - so my rather lovely EBS HD350 is looking for pastures new. Really great amp, lots of positive reviews online and fans on this page. It has been well looked after and lives in its 3U rack case, along with a Fender Tuner (which does a nice 'Knightrider' thing with a blue light scrolling about.) I'll chuck in the 3U case and tuner. It'll drive down to 2ohms so makes for some very flexible cab combinations. I will look into couriers if needs be and will charge that at cost, otherwise we can work out contactless collection I'm sure. I'm in Brightlingsea (near Colchester) in Essex. Cheers Jason p.s. it goes to 11...oh those crazy Swedes 😎
  13. Seeing as I must have had it for 10 years it's probably time I shared a pic of my Mk1 California. Recently swapped in Black Label pups in place of the Delanos. It's a weighty beast, but sexy nonetheless 😉
  14. Yep, it's a good amp. Took me a while to get it eq'd to my liking but pumps like a good 'un. A Sadowsky now? Nice!
  15. Had one like that, useless - nothing but bum notes...
  16. You should get a decent exchange rate from your bank, what kills it is the ( typically) 3% FX conversion fee. Worth looking for cards that don't charge this on foreign transactions- I think they are designed mostly for travelling but it seems to work for purchases too. Halifax Clarity is an example.
  17. OK - you asked for it.... We met Steve and a few others of the Maiden posse when British Lion (the first time they were around - some came from round my way) played at a local pub in Thorpe Le Soken - Steve was managing them, not playing. Ended up having a beer afterwards, my mate Andy and Steve comparing Maiden tats etc. Andy (BT engineer) ended up offering to fit some phone extensions into Steve's new home studio - which he did. They got on well and Andy ended up playing football (don't know why , he's awful) for Maiden XI. We saw British Lion a lot in these pokey pubs and village halls etc and always had a natter with Steve. We got invited to the 'Nodding Donkeys' undercover Maiden gig in Norwich and later asked to go along and do some "Yob vocals" on Fear of the Dark (Chains of Misery and From Here to Eternity) at the aforementioned 'home studio.' Steve gave Andy some bits of memorabilia for a charity auction he was running, remember this is all pre internet, and Andy tried to sell the stuff to a largely uninterested crowd so ended up making a donation and keeping it. Amongst the stuff was a pair of spandex from the World Slavery Tour - which were pretty worn even then. Andy wore them to gig in with our band (not a pretty sight.) They've probably fallen apart by now, but they were cool - had sewn on patches and Egyptian symbols up the side. Good worn patch from p bass action. Nice bloke Steve - happy days 🙂
  18. Long story, but my drummer mate Andy probably still has those very spandex trews festering in his loft somewhere....
  19. I've been compiling a post lockdown mental set list. Here's a couple, the Saxon video has aged wonderfully badly too...😁🤘
  20. I was thinking this should be on this thread Paul! 😎
