1.
it's more of a distortion than OD pedal, it cuts out a whole bunch of low-end and it hisses like an angry snake. I do like the fuzz tone if it's just me & the drummer playing but as soon as the rest of the band kicks in you just can't feel the bass at all.
This is not my experience, the pedal has TONS of low end on tap and can boost what your instrument is putting out in the bass department. It does have a big mid scoop though which can make it disappear in a mix. It is noisy, but I don't find the top end a problem as I run into an Orange Terror Bass which is quite a dark sounding amp plus the tube smoothes things out, into sealed cabs without tweeters. I run my EQ knobs and blend around 1 o'clock, gain about 3 o'clock for raging distortion.
That's really helpful, even without the edit thanks. So if I wanted to get the fuzz/distortion thst the OdB3 gives with the blend/eq maxed out, the b3k can achieve that too?
The B3K won't even get close, it has it's own sound and it's nowhere near as high gain and doesn't have as much low end as the ODB-3. It's a great pedal for the modern grindy metal sound, although I would take a B7K personally as I found the B3K a bit weak on the lows and too peaky in the high mids. I've tried loads of high end bass overdrive/distortion/fuzz pedals, yet love the ODB-3 so much I have two of em! One is going to receive the Monte Allums Tri-Gain mod kit I've been sitting on for eons when I muster up the motivation to get my soldering iron out! I only like it with certain basses (Stingray or Jazz / PJ with both pickups) at high gain settings, it just rips yet still has plenty of thump and definition. It also sounds amazing with a wah going into it. Not a pedal for everyone though. When it comes to combining other dirt pedals with the ODB-3 though, I find it sounds pretty much the same no matter what you feed into it (unless you have the gain and blend lowered to let more of the source tone through). The tone of it can be sculpted by feeding it into another overdrive though, particularly one with a speaker-sim like high end rolloff like the Tonehammer, VT Bass, or Darkglass stuff which can really tame those fizzy highs if you are using tweeters for example.
2. I would avoid the sexplosion and use a hyphen or even a subdomain like 60s.explosion.rocks unless you want your site added to this rather unfortunate list! http://izismile.com/2009/11/05/30_most_unfortunate_websites_domain_names_24_pics.html
3. Since I have lots of storage space I like to get my stuff in lossless FLAC format wherever possible. Only problem is Bandcamp seems to be the only place I can find that offer this format, and it's mostly only smaller bands that sell their stuff through there. So typically I use Spotify to check an album out and if I think it deserves my cash and I can't download lossless, I will buy the CD, rip it, then let it gather dust before it eventually ends up in a charity shop years later! I also try and buy the CD at a gig direct from the band wherever possible to cut out the middle man and make sure they get the most profit from it. I welcome HMV back to the high street, there's still a lot of people out there not into the whole downloading music thing that still want the physical product and it's ridiculous that the only place you can buy a CD in a shop these days seems to be a supermarket!

5. This Fishman Fission looks like another great pedal for Royal Blood style fake guitar sounds: http://www.fishman.com/product/fission-bass-powerchord-fx-pedal £235 inc delivery from Hotrox - has everything you need in one box including octave up, 5th above, 4th below, distortion and footswitches to turn on and off each layer. Separate outputs to send to a guitar amp too.
6. It's a soft wood though, very easily dinged.
7. There's a scat setting. Skiminibop boleebop bolla boppadeedoo

9. There's a used Yamaha BB1025X available on this very forum. That's what I use and I can't recommend it highly enough! Certainly has oodles of 'P-style oomph' that you seek, plus you have the bridge pickup to combine.
10. 2.67 ohms, but who's counting! But there might be some amps out there only rated for 4 ohms, that will blow up with 2, but just about run on the edge with 2.67!
11.
Aw, so I won't be getting that blueberry off ya in the classifieds section DannyBuoy???
Haha, no chance - I've sold nearly every new od/fuzz pedal I've acquired lately but hanging onto this!
12. For vintage overdrive I can't recommend the Bearfoot FX Blueberry enough: http://www.bearfootfx.com/product/blueberry-bass-overdrive/ I've tried so many overdrive pedals but this is the one that I will settle down and grow old with!
13. Add the Behringer BDI-21 to the list. It's a Sansamp clone so might be a little too coloured for your tastes, but then again it might be just the ticket!
14. The Bearfoot FX Blueberry is my favourite right now for warm fingerstyle drive, kicks the Beta's ar$e IMHO!
15. But, back to the pedal - it seems kinda cool, looking forward to hearing some more demos of it. Register on the Red Witch forums (http://www.redwitchpedals.com/) and there's one up for grabs, just have to enter why you should win one!

17. Yep, I think it will do the same, and you can set an option in the menu whether the sound will be muted or not when in bypass/tuner mode.
18. Ah, love the NZ accent. http://youtu.be/hFPEpUKd5OY
19. What about the rest of the setup? Sounds good whatever it is. Also can't beat a phaser on bass for spaced out fuzziness, a Phase 90 would be an excellent addition to that line-up!
20. Valve preamps can be designed to be very clean, e.g. Hartke LH500, or very grungy like the aforementioned Orange. Not sure where the Spyder sits - but just because it has a valve pre doesn't mean it'll sound like an LB30. I use an Orange Terror Bass myself, and warm it up even more with a pedal - I recommend the Bearfoot FX Blueberry, Catalinbread SFT, or Xotic Bass BB Preamp as my current favourites. Not a fan of the Sansamp stuff personally. Other amp options I would look at are the TC Electronic Classic or RH series, Genz Benz Streamliner, Aguilar TH500, Markbass TTE and GK MB Fusion. But I would start with the Orange, cheapest, simplest and dirtiest of the lot!
21. Cool! What are you using for bass fuzz? Sounds like you should be using one of these! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xaJZsIwIlR8
22. Should be pretty easy to make one. Plug in a TRS cable if you have one, then experiment bridging the connections at the other end of the plug. In all likelihood connecting the tip to the bottom part will enable one effect, and connecting the middle section to the bottom will enable the other effect. Then you just need a box and a couple of footswitches! Otherwise, any footswitch with a TRS plug and a couple of latching switches should do the trick: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Guitar-Amp-Amplifier-Channel-TRS-Footswitch-for-Roland-Boss-FS-5L-2-Channels-/141168092281?pt=UK_Sound_Vision_Other&hash=item20de462479
23. I notice the bridge is mounted a lot further forward than the on the Kala. Anybody got a Harley Benton and a Kala to post a side-by-side pic?
24. Afraid not!
25. I tried the Retrovibe pre in my Sub but far preferred the stock one so switched it back. The stock one sounds great, just a bit too loud. Somewhere in the talkbass thread are instructions from a Sterling rep detailing how to mod the preamp to resolve this, wiring the volume control after the preamp instead of before it and adding a resistor in somewhere. Definitely giggable stock though, no sharp fret ends, low action, great tone and very light weight.
