For sale is the neck from my Limelight Precision Bass Relic Neck with mid 60s Fender Logo, clay dots, and Rosewood fingerboard. Frets in very good condition. I, mid lock-down decided I didn't like the feel of the nitro on the neck and so rubbed it down and then heavily oxidised the wood and waxed it, removed the plastic side dots and put in some clay. I believe the neck is an Allparts because the neck that I replaced it with was an Allparts, that was identical in shape and feel. I discovered that it didn't actually look too far removed from the neck on my actual 1964 p bass. Why did I change the neck? Because I was never too blow away by the Limelight relic job on the neck and the chap that does all the work on my basses does incredible refinishing and relics so decided to let him do his magic on a new neck. Looking for £150 delivered ONO Great neck for a vintage type bitsa project or if you wanted to strip the neck back and put in better side dots.

After a good 3 weeks or so of not playing my Spector and instesd my Fenders, Musicman and Alpher my arms and shoulder are pain free which gives me a pretty clear indication that unfortunately, despite my love for Spectors they are not suited to me as a gigging instrument. I'll probably be listing it on here regrettably when I get a chance and maybe look for a Fender P bass V.

For me I thought Chi Cheng had this very laid back groove that worked between the guitars and drums. Simple and functional but with a great feel.
-
Ha. Yeah I did start to wear it pretty low which helped my right arm but absolutely destroyed my left shoulder! Can't seem to win!

After crippling shoulder pain after a wedding gig last Thursday where I used my Spector followed by a festival last night where I used my Stingray 5 where I felt absolutely fine after the gig I think it's time to accept defeat and acknowledge by body doesn't like how the bass hangs when standing up. It's an incredible bass, sounds amazing, plays amazing and I love the design of the basses from the body shape to the bridge and headstock design. Thinking I'll probably put it in a case and leave it there as a studio tool thought it pains me to have such a great instrument not being used!

I got mine, put it straight on my board. Used it in rehearsal for a laugh and the presets were great and the pedal really responded well with my active spector. Actually used it tonight on my gig, shoehorned it in! Sounded fat. Everyone has commented on how great it sounds! Haven't had a chance to actually play with it, instead just using the presets but I'm sure tweaking the settings will get it suited to your bass.

Got one arriving tomorrow from dunlop uk! I will be out watching Alanis morrisette in the evening so will have to wait until Thursday to use it!

I would agree with that! Although I think that the darker album was not down to Doug alone, I think a lot of new music around that time was on the darker side and they went in that direction.

I'm a big fan of Doug Wimbish and Living Colour. Bit before my time, but I remember hearing Cult of Personality on Napster and loving it and then when I was 20 seeing Wimbish doing that performance on his DVD on YouTube completely blew me a way. Saw lots of polar opinions about the sound on this tiny desk performance but I loved the separation, hearing Vernon reads guitar and dougs bass tone coming through.

After two years in a row playing it, I'm very relieved not to be sleeping in a freezing cold, damp tent, zero sleep, desperately trying to keep hold of your your tickets for your gear that youve put in site storage and the either cold or extremely hot showers!! Of course I'll miss the playing and the fun but the rest I do not miss at all!

I find on my Spector LT5 a good setup, good intonation and a lighter gauge string... I user a .125 Dunlop super bright gives me a lot of clarity and note all the way across the neck. I find not cranking the bass on the preamp or amp also helps and also a lighter touch helps bring more note out of the string.

So glad I'm out of the world or updates and getting on with life with analog pedals 🤣 just joking. The Quad is great just not for me!

Haha! I think I'm going to be pretty strict, and have the bored as a limitation and the hx one there to do any of the delays or pitch shifters I used once in a blue moon. I'm wondering how well the drives are on that too. One weakness I have is I now have artist pricing on Dunlop and MXR so I might get tempted! I had the most success when I had a board of EBS pedals a long time ago, people would comment on the sound to me. Comp, Octabass, Valvedrive and Wah! I'm fact I think you interviewed me about it!

I have sold the QC to a friend for a bit less than I could've if I had wanted to list it in various places. I lent it to him and he loved it so it was an easy sale. I'm not going for an Anagram though. I've decided to go mostly Analog and down the MXR and Dunlop route, and considering eventually maybe a HX One Stomp for those one off pedals I like having more for fun or for an extra bit of drive. This way I'll have a fair bit if cash left over from the QC sale.
-
It's not necessarily to do with the anagram, I've been feeling this was about the QC for a while but decided to stick it out for a while with the QC. It's great but underused features why. Its almost like I just want less stuff haha The QC is amazing but probably overly complicated for my needs and with some effects I struggle to get the sounds I want or find how some of them interact with my basses I just can't get the sounds I expect from them. Most notably from the filters. It would be to free up some cash and either at some point go with an anagram or actually just buy a few nice pedals and a tuner.. the Anagram would probably make sense due to the range of drives and also the extra effects that I would use sporadically. I've got a whammy, a phaser and an aftershock already sitting in boxes that all do the job. Would maybe opt for a Dunlop Chancellor Wah, MXR vintage bass octave, possibly a comp to add to that but then I love the clean set up of the QC and dislike my OCD with builinf pedalboards. Let's face it I can do pretty much all my gigs with my bass, tuner and sansamp.
-
Very much considering selling my QC, if I can get the right price. I use a patch with a compressor, drive, delay and a phaser for most live stuff I do and then a patch that I use fro practice. It does seem crazy to me that I'm using so little of its potential. It does sound amazing though but I watched the IMA video and some of the things he mentioned were things I felt about the QC.

Got the standard 45-125 Super Brights on my LT5 now! I love these strings, very much more flexible and respond better to how you're playing to what I was using. They've completely opened up the sound on my Spector. The bass now sings, where it sounded a bit stiff and dead. The B string is so clear and articulate now. Easier on the hands too, which I suppose is from not having to pull the sound out of the bass so much!
-
Very tempting this Anagram. I use very little of the QC processing and use it mainly for effects but live in the hope that parallax gets ported into it soon The Anagram is perfect for my needs but I have a QC and don't think I cam be bothered with the effort of selling the QC to a guitarist!

I should mention that for a while I have had an issue with my playing my LT5 recently. Both standing up at gigs and sitting down practicing. It was like I was constantly fighting against the bass and could not get comfortable with it... honestly it was exhausting. I think this was probably due to my body and generally being exhausted from being a dad to a toddler and a bass player that has spent twenty plus years in vans and tour busses (it seems since I turned 40 it's all been catching up with me physically) Anyway... I switched the strap around from a Mono padded one with dunlop straplocks to a wide leather Levy one with just rubber strap stoppers. Couldn't believe the difference, don't know if itsbetter weight distribution or if the strap not being on straplocks has slightly shifted they way the bass hands on my body. Played a wedding gig on Saturday. Felt absolutely fine all gig. Only downside was I picked up a bloody virus at it!
-
Yeah I know that issue of the string being too close to the pickup. It's not that unfortunately but westside distribution are being very accommodating and swapping the sets for me, so all on course to be sorted.
-
I'm not sure about where Hartke is stocked but they are distributed by Hal Leonard here and it seems they have their own online store which I think might be called musicroom, could be wrong or it could maybe have been part of Samson Tech. I am a Hartke artist and I think my rig came from somewhere within the UK, when I needed a replacement amp they shipped it to me within 24 hours (turned out it was just the valve going)! Great amps and cabs. Really reliable (even with the dodgy tube it still sounded fine). The clarity is incredible, great for live gigs and I never feel the need to engage the tweeter to get the definition.
