  1. Well, a beer and a number of gigs coming in for the year this evening lead to me buying a Cioks Sol and some of the required cables for powering the Quad with an outlet still free to power my sansamp. Figured, once I've messed around buying cheap power supplies and the hassle and time of sorting it all out and sold my true tone cs7 it seemed like a logical solution 😅
  2. Yeah I've seen those! They look cool but I would never trust it on a big stage or on tour. Once you've set up, gone through soundcheck, accidentally left it on and player a show I think I would be nearing the end of batteries charge. I actually had one of the old rockboard ones and it just went mid gig, loud bang through the PA, fully charged and the dead as a door nail. I should really buying a proper £200 power supply but just very skint at the moment!
  3. Ha yeah! I used the Quad Cortex with the power supply plugged into the wall when a camera man during a session stepped on it and gave me a heart attack! I then set it up on my board so it was fairly protected but it's pretty big sat on my board and I never have totally faith in that cable!
  4. Quad cortex is centre negative
  5. Thanks Dood, very helpful. Are you using something fancier live?
  6. Seems that the Cioks is the way to go, just don't want to spend that amount or money on something like that right now. I think if I decide to keep the QC after the summer I may look at the Canvas HP.
  7. What is everyone using to power the QC? Decided to give it another go for the summer of gigs, festivals and wedding gigs this year and want to upgrade the power supply to something a bit more sturdy, that i can hide under the baordand that I can get the whole board down to one plug. I also don't want to go down the insanely costly power supply route at the moment! Has anyone used the Myvolts power supply? I found another one on Farnell which has the standard iec kettle lead input rather than the 2 pin but not sure if that makes much difference. I would say I've found the QC power supply fine other than the awareness of it on my board and haven't experienced any noise from the lack of ground...
  8. I didn't think my post would set off such a discussion! 🤣 I'm going to persevere or at least hold off selling it for now.. I started to think what pedals I need (some or which I already have) and it was suddenly going to be a big pedalbiarc again! I don't think you can win! The real thing that will make me sell it is having just seem how much my toddlers nursery fees are going up in April!
  9. HA! Yeah I know what you mean about selling a pedal and then suddenly lusting after delays and filters! That's slightly party of the indecision about moving the Quad on! I guess I'm weighing up, selling it and having a word with myself about what I really only need and buying a couple of standard pedals. I hated pre QC where I was always buying pedals and having to rearrange my board so maybe I just need to shut myself from the Internet bass world! Lol.
  10. I'm considering moving on my Quad Cortex... I think it's an amazing unit both in terms of functionality and sounds but I sometimes get sucked into elaborate setups and spending time tweaking it and making effect chains only to find I never use any of this stuff on actual gigs. I find it also draws me away from actually practicing at home and find myself tweaking it constantly. I love it but more as expensive toy than a useful tool, probably due to my brain and personality! The potential final nail in the coffin was last weekend. I had a fly gig up to Scotland and all I could take was a bass and whatever gear I could fit into hand luggage. So I took up my Sansamp BDDI and a tuner, plugged it into the rented backline and was blown away by the sound, how easy it was to dial in and all the techs knew what to do with a Sansamp when it came to plugging it all in. I think probably at most all I ever need is a preamp/di, drive and maybe an octave pedal and so mulling over whether the Quad is just a bit overkill for me!
  11. My vote would be the V2 Bass Driver. It's been a while since I previously used the V1 Bass Driver but the V2 sounded more natural and versatile at getting warm and driven bass tones without sounding harsh and overly scooped. I don't know if the drive is slightly differently voiced or if the taper of the pot is different but I'm finding it very much easier to dial in. Currently setting is all eq flat, 2 o clock blend, 9 o clock on the drive. Also using as my first pedal like doug wimbish and finding it works really well like that, surprisingly!
  12. Anyone here with a euro lt5 changed the pickups and preamp out for soapbar EMG P and J pickups and the LHZ preamp? Don't really have a problem with the bass other than the tone seems very round whenever I heat it back in a live mix. When I hear the emg haz basses the seem to have the more classic emg sound.
  13. I play a 5 string for most of my gigs because I need the range and because for one artist, they like the tone and look of my Spector 5. That being said I prefer playing my 64 P Bass and have used it down tuned for some gigs. I'm happy to play both, and there is a slightly different approach to playing both
  14. £450 to get this out of my house! 🤣
  15. Hard for me to answer. I use mine bridged into the 4x10 so using both power amps. I have the volume on about 4 typically with bass at about 3 mid 5 and treble 0-1.... but at that volume setting if you start to boost any of the eq controls the amp gets louder as you're boosting certain frequencies I guess.
  16. Hi, I use the HL410 and the LH1000. Hugely reliable rig, massive amount of power even running at 8ohms. I really like the HL410 cab. It is very light and with a cover has taken well to being used for touring. Very clear, articulate cab but still find it warm, which I personally fins great for a live cab. Not familiar with the LX8500. I am a Hartle artist and they initially wanted to set me up with the LX8500 but they kindly agreed to give me the LH1000 instead as it was the amp I had experience of. I'm sure it's a great amp but maybe consider an LH500. I honestly find carrying the LH1000 about too much of a big deal.
  17. I don't feel a pickup change will radically change things, might help provide some more mids and bass. Can you bypass the active onboard preamp? Maybe I would say try different strings first. Half round/flat wounds? I have no idea how you play but maybe playing softer might help as that's the cheapest option!
  18. I went there, 20 odd years ago. They had trace combos in the studios if I remember correctly and all the gear was pretty good for the time... lots of electric drum kits I remember! I feel a head would be a good shout, maybe something class D, headphones socket and an aux so they can practive quietly at halls or house share without the need of an amp and then take it to gigs where hopefully somebody will lend their cab. For reference i took a hartke 4x10 and amp which I think maybe got used a handful of times. I have no idea what gigging in Bath is like these days, all the venues have gone I played in there, God I feel old.. Hope that helps and they have a great time I did, until I left to join a touring band.
  19. I had some ACS ones through the MU scheme a few years ago. I no longer use them as (I think due to a lot of hand sanitiser during covid) they started to discolour so didn't fancy putting them in my ears, and also they have a shelf life of a certain amount of years before supposedly they stop fitting your ear shape correctly.. Anyway, went without ear plugs for a couple of years and touring and now recently started using them again. I first tried a set called earasers that were really good, slight reduction in high end but not muffled and sounded clear. Annoyingly I lost them at a festival this summer in a rush to pack down and get home so went for some called Earos that I really like, don't think they attenuate the high end too much, sound clear and are comfortable. Think they're £32 and just as good from memory as the ACS for me at least.
  20. To be fair I haven't bothered with the user created ones. I think I prefer to jave the modelled versions than captures so I can adjust as needed.
  21. Just updated it, took a little while. Looking forward to trying the new blends with the guitar overdrives. I wonder how these will work the captures and also phasing issues. I have the Cory Wong, parralax and darkglass plugins, so hopefully they will end up being compatible with the QC. The Darkglass plugin sound to my ears much better than any of the captures or the modelled versions.. the VMT and B3K have horrible tails to the drive sound that I've never known to happen with the plugin or with the real life analog devices.
  22. Just got back from playing for the second year in a row. Its bloody knackering but a lot of fun. Did two shows this year, one at midnight on Friday night and the other at 12:30pm the following day, with two hours of poor sleep between. For me it's a weird one as I never had the desire to go or play but it is a lot of fun and a lot or cool stuff happening every day. I could not do it as a punter though, I like the comforts of being an artist there 😂 As last year, I saw hardly any bands again. This year I watched almost the entire D:ream set of all things (mainly because I was having a lay down at the Glade) and The Breeders, which was a bit more my thing despite only knowing two songs I thought they were great and gave a very honest performance. I did spend twenty minutes watching a crowd of people dancing around a metal bug on a tank with Happy Hardcore DJs, feeling quite perplexed that of all the things they could do there, they choose that. Each to their own I guess!
  23. Think I'm going to borrow a md421 and capture it next week. Got a free day before heading off to play Glastonbury so would be nice to have it going to FOH and the rest of the band in the monitors, so its a consistent sound theyre used to hearing.. Using your own gear is pretty tricky there due to the size of the site and transport is restricted to people carriers, so will probably end up with an Ampeg of some sort.
  24. Haha not sure either!! 😅
