Good thread I'll go for... Samuel Barber's Adagio For Strings ( although it has been horrendously overused in recent years) Claude Debussy's Dr Gradus ad Parnassum ( spelling?) Take Me Home by Tom Waits Hide & Seek by Imogen Heap Because Its There by Michael Hedges Antonella's Birthday by Tommy Emmanuel Assorted Bulgarian choir music ( very beautiful harmonies) Any solo Oscar Peterson recording Martin Taylor - Stella By Starlight ( or Old Man River, or most if his solo guitar pieces really) Anything from Ted Greene's solo guitar album Here Comes The Flood by Peter Gabriel (the solo piano & voice version) Cheers, Alun Cheers, Alun

That was how I ended up writing out for the trombonist - the trombone and sax played that arrangement in the middle of one of my tunes. Always fun watching the "I know that..." looks on people's faces at that point Cheers, Alun
I guess the answer is ' as far as is economical'. If someone will pay me to play in Australia and will fully fund the trip, I'll do it. If it costs more to travel there than I get paid, it would have to be a REALLY special gig (I have done good gigs for nothing if the music works but I wouldn't do a commercial gig that left me out of pocket). I did a jazz ferstival in Vienne (nr Lyon) once - all expenses paid but no profit margin. Great experience.
Exactly the same here, even down to doing Vienne for expenses It's a great festival to play at. Cheers, Alun
Hi Does anyone have the guitar solo from stairway to heaven worked out in bass clef, dots or tab? Thanks
Bizarrely, I think I have , Iwrote it out for a trombonist a while back. PM me your email address and I'll find the PDF for you. Cheers, Alun

My practice amp ( a 10watt Sound City I had with my first ever bass in 1988) does the same thing. I think my old Laney did too, but I've not noticed it with my Markbass or the Hartke it replaced. I seem to remember something about them having a delay in the circuit to prevent the pop when starting up, but may be wrong as amps are not my strong point. Will be interested to see what the more knowledgable folk have to say on the matter Cheers, Alun

Slightly unrelated - I dug my glass slide out yesterday after listening to Robert Randolph playing pedal steel and had forgotten how utterly crap at slide playing I am!

That Stinger is beautiful.

You haven't put much thought into it then Sounds intriguing, I look forward to seeing how this evolves. FWIW, I think you're going about it exactly the right way - if you're going for a custom, it might as well be everything you want. Cheers, Alun

They played Swansea too but I was manflu-d do had to miss it Great band. I seem to remember learning the "I Remember You" guitar solo on bass when it first came out. Great fun! Cheers, Alun
heres mine, think it will stay like this till i get a Micro Pog
Ha ha, mine is exactly the same state of limbo, waiting for a Micro Pog! I have got the original POG but it's a bit big and fragile for day to day gigs so I really want a Micro but am struggling to find anywhere local to try one. Cheers, Alun
+1 When I called it circus bass (or something similar) I got slated.
Yeah, the difference is that Steve is talking, as far as I can see, about the music created by some solo bassists - not what they create it on. As far as I remember you were referring to the instruments, regardless of what was being played on them. I would count some of Mark King's solos as "circus bass" - lots of high speed triplets that make bassists go "oo" and everyone else go "when is the chorus coming back in". Played on four string Trip Wamsley playing "Sweet Algebur" on his eight string ( with a plectrum) - very beautiful instrumental music As always, just my opinion Cheers, Alun

I love that lineup, but his fretless intonation live is unfortunately always pretty poor.
Ah thanks, So if I used the MarkBass LMII what cab would you go for? Cheers.
Depends what sound you're after really. It has two outputs so you could run a couple of 8 ohm cabs or a single 4 ohm or 8 ohm ( off the top of my head, can't think if it'll handle 2ohm) Cheers, Alun
You can't develop convincing walking lines for any length of time unless you know theory.
This is true. There are two types of walking line in my mind - The blues type ( for want of a better description) - where you walk up and down the arpeggio of the chord or similar, as mentioned a few times here Johnny B Goode, Sweet Home Chicago, etc The jazz type - where you not only outline the chords but play a line through them. For the former type, you can get away without much theory knowledge as you can basically "plug in" a shape starting on the root of each chord. The jazz version requires a lot more knowledge and forward thinking as you ave to constantly think about the contour of the line, where you need to end up, etc as well as the chord you're currently on. It's as complex as you want to make it but I would say that there's much more to improvising a good walking line than it first appears. Cheers, Alun
There is a little buzz from the G string of my SWB lite one so I want to raise the action slightly. Now I've never touched this style of bridge before so can anyone help me some tips. I can take a close up pic if needed.
Not used one of these, but are there little wheels halfway up the bridge? I think I can see some but am not sure. If so, turning these should raise the respective side of the bridge. As with all adjustments, adjust a little, check, and repeat Cheers, Alun

Although you might not expect it to, "Whipping Post" by the Allman Bros always goes down well in a rock trio I occasionally play in. Cheers, alun
Alternatively you cud put ERB at the start of posts in the normal section. This way ppl know it is that and rules shud b put against putting down ERB basses n the whole "you dont need more than 4" thing. This way everyone gets the opportunity to see the titles still and decide if they wana read without going into a subforum
Good idea, but a shame that it has to come to that. "No religion, no politics, no anti-ERB" It's a shame that, due to the narrow mindedness of a few users, we have to have this discussion in the first place. What next - having to put "Gibson" in threads about Thunderbirds to stop Precision players having a go? My concern with having an ERB forum is that the same atagonists would feel the need to post there anyway. It's a dilemma because it seems trivial to expect mods to have to warn people to behave over something so silly, but it is p!ssing people off. The easy answer is - if the topic doesn't interest you, and you have bugger all to contribute - don't post in it. Cheers, Alun

Cheap option - have you tried the Zoom B2? I've used the SVT simulation on mine through a similar rig ( Little Mark II and an old Ashdown 210 ) and got surprisingly good results. Cheers, Alun

I can see where Argh is coming from, as ERBers do have to put up with a fair amount of mindless drivel from some users on this forum but at the same time I think splitting the forum would be a shame. It is all bass guitar after all. To me there are two possible answers.. 1. Have a test forum for a couple of weeks and see if it gets used enough to warrant its existence. 2. Users to have the maturity to not post in topics that don't interest them just for the sake of winding people up. And I suppose, everyone else to ignore them when they do in the hope that they'll got bored and bugger off. Cheers, Alun

The pick ups look interesting but the 5 way selector looks a bit ugly to me. Bet it sounds nice though. Cheers, Alun
Gary Husband is it not!?
Depends which website you read A lot of the adverts say Gary but according to his Myspace page he's in Germany with Al Jarreau at the time, and Chad's website has got the Holdsworth dates. Cheers Alun
