Pitch-Shifting

If you're just after the pitched up note and not too worried about getting swooping sounds ala Whammy pedals, the Electroharmonix POG gets my vote as the most realistic tone I've come across so far. Cheers, Alun
3. Recognised them all but I am a horrendous bass anorak
What I really need is one of these: Now that's a looper.
I want to try one of these, although I have heard some negative comments about their usability. I did try the single pedal RC-2 today but found just having the one pedal too limiting - far too much double tapping, holding down, etc for my simple brain but still quite impressive that they squished it all into one little box. Cheers, Alun

Octave Pedle

For any Welsh would be HOGers , I believe Cranes in Cardiff have one. Cheers, Alun
6. Funnily enough....£10 was the cost of a new adaptor which seems to have fixed the problem
7. Thanks Nik, I had half an hour this afternoon to have a play with my pedalboard and seem to have cured it by using a seperate power supply for the Zoom. Will see if this cure lasts or if I've just been lucky Cheers, Alun
8. I have met this bass and can confirm it is very lovely indeed

Does the Digitech allow you to selct how loops end eg fade out, end after the current cycle, etc? A friend of mine uses an RC20XL and it's a nice feature. I still have the original RC20 which is pretty good but my ear/foot co-ordination is sadly lacking! Cheers, Alun

Octave Pedle

The best I've tried, to my ears, in my opinion, possibly not for everyone but I like it , is the EH POG. I do still like the original Boss OC2 though and that's what I generally use live as it's the sound most non-bassists think of when they think of an octaver on bass ( also it's smaller ) Still haven't tried a HOG, but I mean to one day. Cheers, Alun
11. Hi. I've been using a B2.1u for a while without complaint but when I turned up at last Friday's gig, there was a high pitched digital whine after ebery note, even in standby. I took the unit out of my signal chain and everything was fine but I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced? It may be down to a crappy power lead ( a no-name 9v adaptor daisy chaining a few pedals) but I'm curious. Cheers, Alun

Zoom B2.1u

The B2.1u is a great piece of gear in general. In fairness, very few octavers will track accurately below A ( the Boss OC2 gets temperamental from C down). Some presets are less than useful, but again that is a common "feature" of multi-effects unit presets. However, I am about to post a thread about one issue I've been having lately ( won't post it here as I don't want to hijack your thread) Cheers, Alun
13.
I never understood why more pubs didn't become non smoking voluntarily. We used to play at a non smoking pub down in Gosport and it had a really great family atmosphere. They served food anywhere in the pub and it always packed with all age groups up to real oldies (and they were the first ones to get up and boogie), no yobbery or binge drinking, and there was a proper smoking area outside so no-one minded going outside for a fag. Maybe it's wishful thinking but hopefully the smoking ban will change the ambience of pubs for the better, and I speak as a smoker.
There was a no smoking pub in Swansea a few months before the ban but it closed down fairly quickly. The simple fact that was most groups going out would include a couple of smokers and so the whole group would go somewhere they could smoke. Cheers Alun
14. If it's my six string, it usually stays in BEADGC, although occasionally I might tune the low B down to A. For four string, nearly always EADG but I might occasionally use Drop D. For solo gigs, mainly standard tuned 6 string, but I do use a couple of altered tunings - CEADGC, CEACGC and AEACGA and occasionally a capo. The Ashbory takes far too long to retune so stays in EADG (although if you pop the E string out of the nut, you can get a nice open C ) Cheers, Alun
15. Certainly looks interesting. If they live up to their hype, it should be interesting.
16. I haven't found a lot of difference. Speaking to the landlord at one pub I play regularly, he said that business has gone up but he wished he hasn't amde ot quite so comfortable outside as everyone was out there. When I turned up, I was a bit worried as the terrace was heaving but there were about five or six people inside. Come gigtime though, it was full as everyone filtered in. The only quiet gigs have been ones that were notoriously empty anyway so no real difference from what I've seen. Cheers Alun
17. Yeah, definitely go for it. I play in a few big bands and it's great fun, as well as invaluable for getting your reading together. Cheers, Alun
18.
anyone know why the sound on some of this comes out like an octave lower than it should? (not sure if its an actual octave just sound lower but not slower sounds real odd)
Some of them are a tone or so down. I know Janek Gwizdala mentioned on Talkbass that some of his stuff was pitched down. At a guess, I would say something has gone weird in the conversion of the film rather than connection speed which is more likely to make it freeze than slow down. Cheers, Alun
19. I'm endorsed by Elixir and got it just through emailing them with my CV and hoping for the best Have been with them for about three years but my contact is leaving at the end of this month so we'll see if they extend my contract or not. Cheers, Alun
20. Matt Garrison uses a Hipshot to drop from E to B on his Fodera. I would imagine the string tension gets pretty floppy and I would have the thought the intonation might get a little bit hazy but it seems to work for him. Cheers, Alun
21. Alun Vaughan - Welsh, bald, could be thinner. Mild obsession with meatball marinaras from Subway. Owner of too many basses, attempted solo bassist, jazzer and occasional prog rocker, should know better. Prone to poor typing and self confessed theory geek. And Dood, I am the real Tyrannosaurus Alun Cheers, Alun
