1. I'm still a complete bowing amateur but have a french bow, simply because that's what the shop had! I am learning French grip but have fiddled with German - to be honest, I don't know what I'm doing well enough to have a preference yet
2. Hello. The best advice I can give is to subdivide each beat so rather than counting 1, 2, 3, 4 count the spaces between the beats too. At 80bpm, 16th notes will work well so in your head, count 4 pulses for each beat - 1 e and a 2 e and a 3 e and a 4 e and a If that feels weird, try a four syllable word on each beat ( bacon sandwich works quite well ). This will give you a much more consistent time reference even if you're just playing the crotchets. Cheers Alun

Panic Room Dates

Hope to see you there It's a nice venue and I'm looking forward to seeing Also Eden, what I've heard sounds great. Cheers Alun
4. Either playing in a clothes shop or playing my live debut at a tinnitus fund raiser (yes, both are sadly true!) Cheers Alun
5. Bit of an odd gig last night - had a phone call in the week asking me to do a wedding but explaining that they didn't expect me to learn the set as they had all the bass parts on tracks anwyay, they just needed someone to make up the numbers Recieved the set Friday afternoon and it was a nice mix of 70s-00s pop and rock stuff so decided to have a bash at learning it all anyway. Spent Saturday afternoon learning/transcribing 27 songs and did the gig live - just as well as the audience was full of musicians who would have spotted me miming instantly! Cheers Alun

7.
Cheers mate, I'll get on to him now
PM a-coming
8. The filters could be fun, but the whole reason I love my LMII is that it's so transparent and makes my basses sound like they do DI'd only much louder As a result, I'm not sure how much I'd use it. I still love the SVX, but that's because I don't own an Ampeg, nor do I want to run one full tilt in the house Cheers Alun
9.
Find Chelmsford Rail Station. Walk under the bridge with the stn on the right. Dead opposite the Bus Stn is a side road (on the right). The venue is along there on the right, one premises from the end IIRC. MIND THE STEPS!!!!!
What's parking like there? Been playing a trip with my guitarist for a while now. Cheers Alun
10.
And if you set it up right, it'll do self osscilation and crazy noises too.
Oo, settings please I have an early "knackered switch" model and really like it. Generally use it either clean with the EQ boosted as a "slap channel" or on OD but you can get some gorgeously huge distortion sounds too. The attack switch isn't for everyone but, as fifeq says it can be used to get a great Rickenbacker style clank, and for getting a pick style attack while still playing fingerstyle. Sounds a bit gnarly in isolation but it's great for cutting through heavy mixes. Cheers Alun

PS the same venue is also hosting a Seth Horan gig on Sept 26
12. The middle one is indeed a Dolphin, but it's the 6 string Thumb ( first pic) I was curious about Cheers Alun
13. Any idea of what price you're looking for on the Thumb? Is it bolt on or neck through? Cheers Alun

Looking forward to seeing McKee and Ross ( although sadly not Mr Manring) in October Oct 20 in Blackwood Miner's Institute ( not far from Cardiff, Newport or Caerphilly) for those who may be interested. Cheers Alun

17. Thanks Zach - that is a bit crap Still in progress, so all feedback is welcome. Cheers Alun
18. Yes! Assuming there are no copyright issues that is. Cheers Alun
19. Good luck, I'm sure it'll be fine My current record is five in one day at an all day festival last year - didn't know where I was by the end of it! My ( not at the time) girlfriend apparently commented on how relaxed I looked with the headline band - I was actually comatose Cheers Alun
20.
Errrrrrrrr.....actually no. Mike
Any explanation of the freebies for us hard done by subscribers? Cheers Alun
21. Seth is one of the country's best kept bass secrets - phenomenal player. His bass work on Guthrie's "Erotic Cakes" CD is minboggling in places. I really need to get to the Bassment one of these days. Cheers Alun
22. It was indeed
23. I saw him on the Manring/Lawson/Lester tour in Reading and he was mindblowing. Even sat six feet away, I couldn't work out where all that sound was coming from He didn't do "Enormous Room" in his set, but someone must have asked about it as he then played it afterwards in the middle of signing things. Cheers Alun
24. That is gorgeous, congratulations If it plays anything like OGs, that'll be a lovely lovely instrument. Cheers Alun
25. Yeah, the headline seems a bit "tabloid" to me really, and is feeding off the sort of reaction it would probably cause. His actual comments make total sense in light of the "more is better" syndrome that some musicians suffer from ( that is NOT an attack on ERBs, just a comment on players who feel that having more strings, speakers, watts, etc will make them better). Jeff's comments are, IMO, often designed to provoke comversation and thought ( which they obviously do!) but if you watch his most recent Players School DVD, you'll see that he actual backs up and explains some of his bold statements. I was amazed when he performed at Bassday 07 and came across as a very humorous and friendly person when he had to ad lib his way through the power cut. From his reputation, I expected him to storm off but he stayed and chatted until the problem was fixed. Cheers Alun
