Hey ARGH! get yourself down The Office in Swansea for some Rock/Metal bands, not sure who's there shortly, I'm there in a month though! Hang on.... it might be Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. Either way it's a good gig generally.
The Uplands Tavern also do music most nights from jazz to metal.
  2. Hey Mike, only just seen this sorry - congratulations and good luck!!! Cheers Alun
  3.
What the hell were you doing in sh*tty Bargoed????
Oi. my girlfriend live in Bargoed - it is a dive though, you are quite correct
  4. I might venture over as Mansons is one of my favourite shops and always have good stuff. Cheers Alun
  5.
On Hols, wandering about round about down there.....Anything worth popping about to see?
Swansea has Cranes in the town centre ( between the bus station and Vue cinema) - big shop and an OK range of Fenders, their own Hudson stuff and a few others, and Rowlands on St Helens Road which has a reasonable range but nothing out of the ordinary. There's also Speed Music a few miles out of town in Llansamlet but haven't been there for a while so not sure what they might have at the mo. Not sure about Pembroke/Haverfordwest but, knowing what they're like for other kinds of shops, I wouldn't get your hopes up Cheers Alun
  6. Will someone please buy the Pigtronix while I have some self restraint left????
  7.
I don't know about this. I think teqnique should be unique to everyones playing. More than anything the way you hit the string is where you sound comes from. I think when you said "It's often seen as a dirty word,as if having a lot of technique turns you into a robot that just plays millions of mechanical notes with no emotion or sense of melody, and there is an almost romantic notion that the non-technical will produce better, more honest music." you misunderstood what that person is saying. What he might be saying is that he wants to figure out his own way to hitting the strings and is expressing that there is not only one way to tap, one way to slap, one way to pick, one way to use your fingers. All these "broad teqniques" have infinite way to approach them. For example when I started to play I was told not to bend my wrist and hit the string from overtop of the string. Instead I explored how hitting the string in different way produced different sounds. This doesn't mean not to have the ability to play fast or the ability to use different tequniques but that he is play fast with his own plethera of tequniqes he discovered and It doesn't mean your tequnique is going to give you pain in your tendins or carpol tunnel it just means its different. What if James Jamerson had trained him self to the perscribed tequnique? Motown woudn't be Motown. And if Larry Graham had not discovered slap? That would suck
Hi Kevin, I think we're at crossed purposes here. The article doesn't say there is one correct way, in fact I purposely avoided going down that road. The purpose of that section is to point out that having decent technique, whatever that may be, is a good thing and not going to stop you playing heartfelt music. Throughout my playing career I've encountered countless people who feel that anyone with technique can't play "from the heart" or that learning will inhibit their ability to be musical. I agree that we do need innovators who try different things, and it isn't my intention to say that shouldn't happen. The idea here is to give a player a good place to start. Cheers Alun
  8. Ah I see. Yes the grammar may well not be 100% but I'll be quadruple checking it all if/when I ever finish the damn thing Cheers Alun
  9.
For positioning I'd recommend you taking some pictures that will help people correct themselves. Other than that, you might add (for those dummies out there) that playing through pain might get you tendonitis which will keep on coming back throughout your life. Great idea btw! If you're really serious about this I think your site could become a big hit!
Thanks Matt, pics are definitely a good idea so will be adding them in Thansk for the encouraging words. Cheers Alun
  10.
You should really have run this piece through a spell checker before presenting it to the world!
Thanks Chris, can you give me some clues please? Have run it through the software's checker and an online one and not picked up anything other than US/UK English variations Thanks Alun
  11.
A dutch brand called 'Van der End'. New price about 2000 euro's, that one's going for approx 1000. I do wantz... stupid GAS
That's not a bad reduction Looks quite Sadowsky-ish, if you do go for it, please post sound samples so we can see if it sounds as good as it looks. Cheers Alun
  12. "DO NOT BID IF YOU WANT TO COME FIDDLE WITH KNOBS AND LISTEN FOR CRACKLES AS THIS AMP IS IN GOOD CONDITION FOR PLAYING." ha ha
  13. Good luck tonight, I'm sure it'll be fine

    Panic Room Dates

Quick update - The Point website had the gig incorrectly listed as Sept 29, but it is definitely Sunday Sept 21

    volume pedal

The cheapy Bespecos are remarkably good. Only plastic but I've had mine for over 10 years and haven't broken it yet.
  17. That does look rather lovely
  18. Cheap and cheerful answer would be - Ibanez PD7 for distortion and overdrive, Boss RC20 for loops ( you can pick up the earlier ones quite cheaply on eBay) and a Zoom B2.1u for everything else. (Chuck in an EBS Multicomp, MicroPOG and Danelectro Backtalk and that is basically my board for rock gigs) Cheers Alun
  19. Thanks Cheddatom, missed that one
  20.
Here are some soundclips! Fender Jazz Deluxe MIA with slight emphasis on neck pick-up, everything else flat + amp&cab simulation and compressor from Line 6 Gearbox (my standard clean sound).
Sounds nice. How clean is the tracking? Will it cope with chords or is it strictly monophonic? Cheers Alun
  21. I'm still tempted to try and knock something together with a volume pedal so that you can fade the mix from wet to dry but never get round to it. Does such a thing already exist on the market? Cheers alun

    Zoom H4

Haven't tried the H4 but have an H2 and it's great - once you get the mic levels right ( it has a lot of flexibility), it can record a noisy band without any problems. I usually leave mine on 192k MP3 and the results are fine. If you want a sample, PM me your email address and I'll dig out a clip ( I tend to leave it run) Cheers Alun

  24. The B2.1u acts as a soundcard so you should be able to plug that in via USB then plug your bass and headphones/ computer speakers into the Zoom. Cheers Alun
  25.
So cool to see a Welsh venue in the tour as well
He played there last year too Cheers Alun
