1. Flare the port, Dougal. FLARE THE PORT!!! Nice one! It's fun having fun, eh? ...though I fear the plethora of proposed folk song titles that may be snail mailed your way in this thread... Huh?
2. Welcome, Jock! Important question: are you related to the Kinmylies McPlops or to the Culduthel McPlops? Now, I personally wouldn't dig up this old matter, which should've been forgotten ages ago, but thought it best to give you a heads up on how, even on BC, there's more than a river that separates... (Sorry, mate! Just couldn't resist when I saw your login name. ) Anyway, enjoy your stay! best, bert
3. Hi Danny, and welcome! It's nice to see a pro on here. Finally someone who'll manage a slim bass neck with 6 thin like strings on it, and we'll have us some BASS CHORDS! Enjoy! bert
4. Welcome, Mike, from another noob. You'll find BC is a well as well as a fountain of knowledge, and it being both questionable and searchable. Enjoy! bert
5.
A Rubens sounds fatter
Quote of the month!
6. After this thread I will now sell my way too expensive bass gear and get me one of those Audis. I'm intrigued and charmed by this concept of all the Audi users w*nking at each other - much like we did in my motorbike days, though we just moved our hand upwards and downwards so as to keep the bike stable. But I'm similar in that my economical situation practically precludes me from being in a band. The cost of it all would break me. So yes, you're definitely not alone. The survival thought for me is that things can change. I hope you have stuff to survive on too!
7. There's also HNBD (Happy...), but as you grasped already, that term is nonsensical seeing as no-one ever is happy on an NBD. Edit: Correction: unless of course the NBD involves a pink Daisy Rock. Happy days! Thought I'd better put that straight.
8.
Grolsch was the cheap beer that you'd get at the supermarket, about 2/3 the price of say Heineken.
Are you sure? I'm Dutch and I can't remember Grolsch ever having been anything else than a well-respected quality brand with pricing as to be expected. Mind you, they did have several different qualities, so maybe one of them was a budget beer that I don't know of. The gist of your story does fit very well with what happened with Stella Artois though, which in the beginning of the seventies at least (don't know how long it lasted) was a budget brand (the cheapest brand our Albert Heijn supermarked sold back then), before at some point (during the eighties I think) they rebranded themselves as a premium brand that was "reassuringly expensive". Well well ... "reassuringly plasticky" it is for Grolsch then.
9. Luvverly! It's on repeat in Tractor [s]Manor[/s] Shed.
10.
my usual listening material are Ton Koopman or Andras Schiff, but this is poetry.
Whoah! Careful with my heart! Never imagined anyone but me would mention Ton Koopman here on BC. I used to work for him over three decades ago - not that it is a much cherished experience, but I vividly remember how he reacted like stung by a wasp when I proposed he start a choir and call it Amsterdam Baroque Choir. The look in his eyes told me that that probably was exactly what he was planning, and that he strongly disliked the notion of me mentioning such an idea. But back on topic: I must hear some Family. Back in the days they seemed to me like a nice band I'd certainly buy an album by "one day, but not today". This view may need some adjustment.
11. Welcome, Karl! Bert
12. C'mon folks! A little bit more of the famed community spirit, please! No? OK, I'll volunteer then: If anyone sends me a case of Grolsch, I'll do what's necessary and send Leon his washers Free Of Charge! Must say though it's a real shame a bloody foreigner had to volunteer for what you easily could've managed yourselves.
13. I do indeed know all about these, so won't buy them. That said, it's not always laziness. Sometimes it's true, and often I guess it will be about suggesting to the easily led that this is the desirable thing everyone talks about. But then, you already knew that - since you're looking at this, that is.
14. Hey Nomad, and welcome! Got it today, eh? Then you know more about basses than I do. I'll be presenting you with my questions shortly. Enjoy BC! bert
15. Welcome, oh grumpy one! I have no answer to your enquiry, but hope you'll enjoy BC. best, bert
16.
Quite like this one from tonight's gig...
This Thread Is Worthless Without Phone Numbers!
17. Thanks, Al!
18. 'Bout ye! Sorry, had to say it too. (Trouble is I don't know what it means though. ) Anyway, welcome to the surface then, mr oldbie! I hope you enjoy it as much as you enjoyed being without air... or more than that actually. best, bert
19. Normally, this is no problem at all. The lack of a cab just means the output transistors don't have to work. They take a cuppa and thank you for this. However, IMS the few solid state amps with output transformers do need a load. I also think someone on BC recently (the last year) specified something about this with scientific certainty, so you might wanna perform a search for that old thread.
20. Yes, unless my memory deceives me, the name of the brand does indeed start with an M. Not that it helps much in searches. I've tried.
21. Somebody on BC knows. I think I remember the logo from a thread two to three years ago, and back then it was solved. I tried searching, but to no avail. Keep up hope though: if enough people see the thread, eventually someone will come along who knows it.
22. Yeah! Welcome back to Kent, Matt! Also welcome to BC. Nice intro you wrote. I smiled. Pull up a chair, eh, and sit at our table. Plenty of space here, as nobody else wants to talk to us. Oh, and sometimes we even mention bass guitars if that's not a problem. Enjoy! bert
23. NOOOOOOOO! Not that ugly liftruck!!! What you need is something pretty... ...something that will transport your gear as well as itself! You need something that is... part of the car! You need the GM Runabout!!!
24.
All basses with matched headstock:
Personally, I'll never understand why people don't first remove all the litter before making pictures of their nice basses against the wall. That and those pics of basses lying on the floor, and you get to see the ugly, dirty toes of the sandaled owner! BTW, that a GameChanger or a regular one? You like it compared to especially the Bongo?
