Opening chords that send shivers down your spine
BassTractor replied to colgraff's topic in General Discussion
Yes: Close to the Edge - - not counting the river sounds at the very beginning. It has consistently sent shivers down my spine for more than four decades. -
As the guy who taught Johann Sebastian Bach to compose, and taught Mozart, Miles Davis, Bill Bruford and thousands of others too BTW, I can only add that everyone but me can just hang their instruments in the willows. If you really are into the work done by these backward simpletons Paul McCartney and Jaco Pastorius, then you just haven't got it, you indiscriminate trolls! Worded more seriously: There exists a concept that I don't know the name of, but it's drawn like a triangle: at the bottom of it is the knowledge/insight that roughly is shared by everyone. As you get closer to its top, fewer and fewer people will possess that level of knowledge/insight. Close to the top you have those few who know and understand most. Of course stuff in the real world is more complicated, but that does not really matter. The point is that some people out there could "rightfully" say, if they wanted, that everyone on BC should hang up their basses and do something more appropriate. I'm sure we would all appreciate...

Bah! That is sooo Gifshopped, I've heard the soundtrack, and in reality the bear's playing in B major.
I get McCartney, but not Pastorius. Do I continue to play bass or not?
:-D You are granted permission to continue playing bass for a period of three (3) months. Unlined fretted only! Other rules may apply.
Agree with the general awesomeness of Relayer - TGOD and Squire's lines within it.... but (gasp) the production is not as good as say, ;'Fragile' so it makes some of lines a little hard to hear with all the rest of it going on!
You might wish to listen to the new Steven Wilson remix - out both in stereo and in surround 5.1, IMS. By large his remixes get rave reviews, and fans report they finally can hear everything. Google will tell whether that goes for Relayer as well. AFAIK, he's done several albums by each of the following: - Gentle Giant, - Jethro Tull, - King Crimson. - XTC, - Yes.
Do you know what frequency your A string vibrates at? 55Hz...
Yes, everybody knows. Do you assume they don't know this?
You need to be able to reproduce those frequencies accurately.
No, you don't. It's a matter of taste. You may choose to, and in case you'll need lotsa power because the amplitude in those low frequencies is trouserflappingly huge. However, as said you do not need to, as in the mix the important information about the bass guitar's sound is in the changing amplitudes of the overtones. Most knowledgeable people I've seen discussing this on BC state that gear going down to roughly 100Hz is good enough, though some discussion does exist.
No hard feelings on my end Bert, hopefully not on yours either.
Oh no, Scott. Far from it. No worries. I just failed to convey my state of mind, which was not unfriendly, and my (wry? - don't really know what that word means) smile. best, bert

Thanks for your response. Re-reading what I wrote, I think I came across more grumpy and less humourous than I intended. My aim was mostly to be open about the possibility of viral marketing, without concluding, and to make you aware about our possible response, but also to possibly make other people aware who are on mobile platforms and who cannot see the post count and membership date. I hope you're straight and honest, and in case apologise for the inconvenience. Bert

On Internet forums, there are certain patterns. One widespread pattern is that of people becoming a forum member and soon after introducing themselves and maybe starting a generic thread or two that doesn't demand anything from them, they'll talk about an unknown product that someone thinks needs a boost. Now happily I'm not a very sceptical person, so I believe that exactly this pattern is purely coincidental, and that no social engineering or viral marketing is ever involved in any of its occurances.
Has anyone heard of AREA ? Italian band, fantastic singer Demetrio Stratos. Died in his twenties, circa 1980. Listened to them alot in my teens, along with Magma, Art Zoyd, Henry Cow; the Recommended Records circle.
Yup! Great band, and I still listen to them - especially to "Crac!". Never seen them live though. Magma, Art Zoyd and Henry Cow are some of my all time faves. Had originally thought to list Henry Cow as a regret, but wasn't sure whether they exist again. Took my daughter to a fantastic Magma gig a few year back, and she was glowing afterwards. Happy dad day.

Yup! Bass necks need tabs, and that seriously is the only exception.

Basschat therapy from my hospital bed - I thank you
BassTractor replied to Raslee's topic in General Discussion
I'd write something vaguely funny here if I could, but you can't laugh right now, and I couldn't take the risk that you would if I could... This is getting complicated... Sigh. Get well soon! Bert -
That's why I don't delve into posts like that. The point they make is about what I consider details that are not important enough to me. But these people are resourceful and they're working with dozens of these synths every day, so I'm not gonna sweepingly say their sayings have no merit at all. For Roland all of this probably just means they reach break even point a lot quicker. There's good economy in selling four boxes instead of one.
However one thing really puzzles me.
I think it might possibly be explained by the love that still exists for the JX-3P and the Juno. People are still raving about them on synth fora and EDM fora, and describe how well certain characteristics of their sounds blend in the mix. Some even prefer a JX-3P above the JX-8P because of some of its sound. Sorry, can't be more specific, as I don't delve into posts along these lines. I just noticed a pattern of enthusiasm, especially in EDM circles.

Congrats! Please update when you've tried them and have a good idea about what you feel about them. Edit: ah! Beat me to it. These are quite attractive (I love my miniature Odyssey as well) and at a great price. Just wondering: is there MIDI Thru in the MIDI ports (don't even know if that's technically possible) or in the USB?
Could be said of a few on here...
Now now, no need to be self-deprecating! I'm sure the underpants made for one of these optical illusions one sees on the Internet. That or the size of the horse's mouth.

As per your like for simple solutions, I'd say: bomb your computer!

Just use the Quote or MultiQuote button, and delete those parts of the post(s) you do not want to quote. Just takes a few seconds. Better methods may well exist, but I'm satisfied doing it this crude way.

During the last few months, we've had two threads pointing out how terrible they are. You may be able to find those threads for more info. Personally, I only have experience with their Dutch webshop and its service, and the experience has been wonderful to the degree that I now clearly prefer them above Thomann. Whilst Thomann have the best webshop experience of the two IMHO, Bax-Shop have been a lot better at pre- and after-sale service.

Fantastic story. I'm glad you desided to post it. (I was thinking that these days only 4.99999998571% of people are OK, but after reading this I know it really still is 5% of people, just like in the good old days.)

Nice! This seems like typically EBS to me, as I feel they're a thoroughly good firm, and your experience confirms my desire to support them by actually buying their stuff. However, the important question is: is this technical director hot?
