1.
Dear God, that Blue Umbo Ahem, focus. Don't suppose you are heading north in the near future? Very tempted by the TTE.
Ah timing is everything unfortunately. I have someone coming up to try the TTE tomorrow. I can testify that the Umbo/ TTE/ 1126 combination is a good one
2.
TWO Sandberg Umbo's, that's just greedy
You realise there are roundwound and flatwound strings right?
3. If you're looking for an alternative to the Tonehammer try one of the Markbass TTE heads. Less "features" but excellent tone.
4. I've owned that cab (and a few other Markbass cabs) and 2 of those with a 500w amp would be more than adequate for most gigs. Nicely balanced tonally (although quite rich in the mids) I've done quite a few gigs with just one.
5. Another bump for a classic sounding amp and powerful, punchy cab
6. I forgot to mention that the NY604 also sounds killer with my NS EUB. I've owned 3 different models of Markbass 1x12's and this cab is fuller sounding as a single cab solution than any of them (in a similar sized box).
7.
Just a heads up. Thats a review for an f500 not tte500
Yeah there's a review for the cab on that link too. Bass Player magazine also reviewed the NY604 with the F500. Most of the TTE reviews are with the Randy Jackson cab.

I believe the new price of these was around £800. Great cab. Plenty of volume and bottom end with a really fast response and punch. 600w. I used this with a NY121 (on it's side) and it made a killer rig. 9. In my main band my drummer gives me a lift in his A4 estate most gigs so hence the one cab solution unless I drive or he gets a bigger car! Two cabs will fit ok in my boot but I don't foresee using both too often. I'm depping for a female fronted function band over the next few weeks so I'll see how the cab likes proper roundwounds and effects.
10. Apologies in advance for the quality of the photos. Having received the cab on Tuesday I was able to try these out at a jam night on Tuesday and at a rehearsal with my band on Wednesday. On Tuesday I took my Sandberg Umbo with Status flatwounds and had the pleasure of hearing other bassists use the rig as well as playing myself. The sound had real authority throughout the room but didn't jab you in the ear. As I was going for a vintage sound with this bass I was pleased with the woodiness and character I was hearing and had many admiring comments from other bassists and even guitarists! There was plenty of headroom and the balance of tone throughout the frequencies was perfect, with the bass sitting perfectly in the mix. Having owned a TTE500 for a while I upgraded to the 801 to allow for more watts at 8 ohms as the cab appreciates any extra power you can give it. The TTE801 seems very similar tonally but maybe has more bottom end to go with the extra power. The gain knob also seems to work in a different way to the 500 in that it matters more where it is set. Below halfway and the sound lacks punch unlike the TTE500 but once I'd figured this out it wasn't an issue. I preferred a setting with the gain on 1-2 o'clock getting some nice valve harmonics but still fairly clean. At rehearsal the next night I took my other Umbo wearing LaBella quarter rounds and tested the volume capabilities in the rehearsal room before the rest of the band arrived. This cab can get freakishly loud without any sign of farting out. I chickened out with the volume way before the cab seemed likely to! I will still probably order another matching cab though while Tommy still has some of the front ported design left. I will probably order a tweeterless cab to go with this although the tweeter in this one is sweet sounding and natural. The cab doesn't have the low mid bump that my Markbass cabs may have had but this was easily added in the eq where necessary (certainly not needed with the flatwound strings). I was also pleased that the cab seems to take on the characteristics of the bass used (I tried some different basses at home) and seemed to enhance the vintage tonal qualities of the amp despite being quite fuller in range than a lot of cabs. Overall extremely happy
11. Whoever buys these is getting a bargain. I've just received my 1126 and took it to a jam night last night. All the bass players mentioned how great it sounded and the tone was amazing everywhere in the room. The bassist who usually supplies the jam with his Tonehammer 500 and Aguilar SL112's said he couldn't imagine a situation where he would need more than just one of these. I will probably get another though . Highly recommended!
12.
For all the TTE users, how does it compare to the mini mark?
The Minimark has a very clean hi-fi-ish sound while the TTE's, in comparison, sound fatter with a vintage funk vibe. I used to use a DHA VT1 to fatten up the MiniMark tone and to add gain and lower mids. I didn't like my VT1 as much with an LM2 as I thought it thickened it up too much. I much prefer the TTE's tone to the Minimark for my purposes but they both sound good.
13. I have a TTE500 which is analogue and a Class D TTE801. I regularly play through a Tonehammer 500 at a local Jam and had a brief play through a Subway. I love the TTE500 and it is a fantastic amp tonally. I needed an amp capable of 500w @8 ohms so the logical step was the TTE 801 and I'm really happy with it. I like the Tonehammer but I find it a little 2 dimensional in comparison to the TTE's. In my brief play on the Subway I thought all the nice tones came with the voice control. Unfortunately it seemed compressed with the voicing control dialled in even a touch so my interest waned at that point. I realise that familiarity with the amp may change my opinion but it didn't seem my thing at all.
14. Status flats will get you those classic tones but take a little while to bed in (like a lot of flats). The E string in particular sounds like it's from a different set until it eventually opens up. I removed the first set I tried immediately because I thought they lacked character but I tried them again a couple of years later and they settled into a more vintage tone than the Labellas that I have. Lovely mids. Good value too...
15. Still awaiting my 1126 that I ordered in December. If only I'd have known you would sell these..........
16. I went for the TKS1126 but while in Bassgear I tried the new Genzler 12/3 Bass Array cabs which sounded really nice (especially the high end).
17. Had my first rehearsal with this amp and my outgoing NY604 this week and I'm very impressed. It has serious power on tap and it appears to have a little more low end than the TTE500. A nice fat vintage sound with both roundwounds and flats. Can't wait to try it with the TKS when it arrives.
18. I used to have a Std 102HF (double ported version) which I used with a Traveller 102p. I eventually bought another 102p cab and preferred the 2 x Traveller cabs together. The travellers when paired seemed to be more than 2x the single cabs. I often regret selling those cabs now....
19. Having owned Markbass speakers from the Std, Traveller, NY and Club series I'm not sure any of them are of inferior quality. The 2x10 Traveller cabs I had contained the same drivers as their Std counterparts, just maybe in a smaller cabinet, One of my favourite cabs is the Traveller 121H. A pair of Traveller 102's is a really good combination.
20. I own 4 of the old style but I don't like the new T (jazz) shape very much. If I was to have another one made (!) it would be a V shape with 2 jazz pickups, or a VT4.
21. I used to use a DHA VT1 pedal in front of my Little Mark 2 and Mimimark which I loved but Markbass TTE heads are a class above and fit the description of "modern vintage" perfectly. I would maybe advise a decent eq pedal before the head to easily fix bad rooms (although I don't always use one for most gigs).
22. I would imagine the S112's would be a good match for the Streamliner. For me the TTE's have a real heft and "valviness" to them and I'm looking for a flatter cab than my NY604 to put this across. The NY604 sounds great with my LM11 but I preferred my previous Markbass Club 112's for the TTE500 looking back. It was between the 1126 and a Fearless F112 (I believe they use the same driver) and in the end I like the look of the TKS cabs plus I was able try it out. It sounded very flat to me and I should be able to cut frequencies where necessary with my Basswitch.
23. I tried the S112's and liked them but didn't think they'd be a good match for my TTE for all styles. I'm hoping that I can get the character and bark from the head . Hopefully the 1126 will sound good with my EUB as well. There is a possibility I may buy another too...
