  1. My car broke down en-route to a gig and I had to wait for rescue. My stuff got taken to the venue, but I didn't make it until they'd already started playing. I get to the door, the guy says "That'll be X pounds", I say "I'm meant to be on stage" and he hurried me through! I get on stage and find out my band mates hadn't got my in ears out of my gigbag, which was in a room at the other end of the main room, and I felt like I needed to start playing! As we were all in ears, there wasn't any monitor mix, so couldn't hear anything properly, and I was out of time with the guitarist's looping until everyone else kicked in. Terrible gig! I also played a village pub with a mate, me on guitar and him on drums, when we were in 6th form. It was a bit drony and largely improvised. The performance was called "brave" by a friend. Still got paid though!
  2. I've got a neo 212 Bass Fatboy. I think the neo speakers are the only option on their website, I guess becuase the heavier speakers weren't selling. I went over to their Somerset workshop (they're in Cornwall now) to try one out. Love it. Great one cab solution. Plus lots of tolex options. Turns out the guitarist from my new band knows Paul, the owner of Zilla, too. Apparently he has a degree in physics, so does know a thing or two about cab design. I'm sure he'd take on something different than their standard offerings.
  3. Once you've found a size of tip you like, I can recommend buying them a lot cheaper from AliExpress! I've had them from this seller 3 or 4 times now. Just as good as the Comply tips, but a hell of a lot cheaper! https://a.aliexpress.com/_EQ2hbSP

There's one on Facebook local to me for £200, but open to offers...
  5. I've done a few mods. Some of it is making it feel more like my own bass. Others have been genuine improvements for how I want my instrument to work for me. I recently swapped out the volume for a stacked volume & tone on my Dingwall, which works whether it's in active or passive modes. Really pleased with the outcome. It tames it in a way that the active controls can't. Plus I moved the neck pickup down to the NG2 position, which also makes it sound more how I want it to. I'd also like bridge saddles with a less sharp edge because I'm doing a lot of palm muting with my current band, and the current ones have a very sharp edge. All functional stuff!
  6. We've not practiced for two weeks now due to one thing or another. I'm itching to get back next week!
  7. It shouldn't matter which connection type you use. An XLR might be a bit more of a snug/secure fit, but it would be fine either way. The 1/4" only needs to be TRS if the desk out is a balanced one.
  8. Geezer does have the PJ set in his signature Lakland though.
  9. My most recent strap was a vegan Right On one. Not bought because I'm vegan (I'm not), but because I was curious and it's really nice. A bit grabby at the back, but not as much as a suede strap, so it doesn't pull at my clothing in the same way. Feels like it'll last a long time.
  10. We're a doom metal band called Hora, which is Cornish for "whore". Our first EP is going to be about the Cornish witch trials.
  11. If you keep it, I'd suggest filling the pickup screw hole with a cocktail stick and a bit of glue before refitting a more suitably sized screw. But, with that dent, I'd be looking for more money off or return it.
  12. In order it is: Aslin Dane Epiphone Hohner Fender Squier Sterling By Musicman Dingwall Revelation No duplicates either - only one bass from each brand. I have ambitions to own more. My wallet and wife have different ideas...
  13. Ooooh, I'd like to come along this year. Not been to a bass bash before!
  14. @Skinny it was a commission build. They did some posts on it on their social media! https://www.instagram.com/p/CpKsEbqtg0B
  15. P.S. good choice on the whalepool burst 😁
  16. They are not a drop in replacement and do need new holes unfortunately. Dingwall are meant to be potentially releasing their big block style bridge as an aftermarket drop in option soon (I've got my fingers crossed it'll be NAMM). Hopefully they'll do lefty versions for you! I did email Mark about them in February to see if I could get on a waiting list. He said he'd talk to Sheldon and would get back to me. I need to chase him up...
  17. Brian also does excellent work and usually has a pdf template you can check the fit on. I've had two perfect pickguards from him. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/115165532354
  18. This Starcaster logo is also abuse. The only way that could be worse would be if it was in comic sans!
  19. I started off with some really cheap amp, with what was probably an 8" speaker back in what must have been 2001. Horrible thing. Almost surprised I stuck with bass! So later that same year I got a Trace Elliott Commando 12 that did me a good few years. Loved the sound of it, but it wasn't loud enough and didn't have a DI out. Probably sold it in 2011. I got a Markbass CMD102P around what must have been 2009. It was good, but possibly a bit too hifi for me. Had a road trip with a friend to Andertons to get it. Took long time to sell as well once I decided it wasn't for me. THen I got an Ampeg PF-500 with the matching 210 in 2012. Really liked that at the time, but when I started playing 5 strings it didn't quite do it for me. So in probably 2019, I got a Zilla 212 made up that was so much better than the Ampeg 210. Something was still lacking though and later in 2019 I got my ABM 600, which has stood me in good stead ever since. I also had an Ampeg BA108 at some point, but it barely got used.

  21. I taped a long headphone cable to a regular instrument one once to do the same thing. Worked a treat and much cheaper than these already very good options as I already had the instrument lead. Plus I could position the headphone end just where I wanted so it was in the correct place when I looped my cable through the strap. Could even add some trunking and then some heatshrink to make look nicer.
  22. I had the same issue, it still happened with a new valve, do I sent it off to Ashdown, came back good as new. That's a bit harder for you based on your location! If a new valve doesn't sort it, I'd contact the shop you bought it from.
  23. Yeah, the bridge is going to be better than a three point one. Looking at the comments on Instagram, they've said it's short scale and the pickup can be switched from plit coil to mudbucker with a push/pull on the tone control.
  24. I had a SUB 5 for quite a few years. It played really nicely. The stock preamp was ok, but it sounded better once I put a Retrovibe Stinger in it. I think, had I kept it, I probably would have gotten curious eventually changed the pickup too. It held up well to gigging though and I utterly outdid (tonally) a real Stingray 5 once at a gig. The other bassist we were supporting looked a bit annoyed about that 🤣 I only moved it on when I got my Dingwall as I had some instructions from the other half!
  25. Yeah, I've been trying out the main contenders at practice and we rehearse a bit silly loud (with hearing protection!). One of the guitarists even said he couldn't hear me as well with the one I thought would work well (which was a Gator Grip triangle).
