  1. I love the look of these. I'd want all of the frets though please.
  2. I use a very mildly set one at the beginning of my signal chain on my GX-100 to provide a bit more note attack. You almost wouldn't know it was on until you turn it off. There are still plenty of dynamics to play with. After it I've got overdrive, fuzz, distortion, octaver, delay and reverb to play with. I tried it in a few different places before settling on the beginning of the chain, but that was where I preferred it. Don't be afraid to play around and twist the knobs to the extremes to find the limits of what it can do.
  3. I'm 99% sure Lozz will be right, but @Bass Direct will be able to help. Probably when they get back after the bank holiday.
  4. I love mine. The auto gain feature is really helpful. Makes it really easy to always get it right. GLWTS!
  5. Good midweek gig at The Gryphon last night. After a late night two nights in a row (and the usual 5:45 alarm 😭) I'm knackered today! Too much headbanging as well, my neck is giving me some jip this morning. There were a few issues, the first band took a while getting off stage, which meant we were rushed and our guitarist couldn't work out why his amp was quiet. Turns out it had been switched to half power mode. Still, it went very well and there were lots of positive comments and we even sold a t-shirt. Very hot up in the small gig room there though. I think capacity is about 50 and we were almost at that, plus no air condidioning. My new digital only fuzz was working a treat tonight too. On my GX-100, I'm running a transparent overdrive into a bass fuzz and then a parallel signal with bass overdrive into the fuzz face model, both fuzzes with a bit of clean blend, boosting the lows on the fuzz face, reducing them on the bass fuzz. It has that high end chaotic movement to the sound that most digital fuzzes don't quite get. My rig was Dingwall Combustion -> GX-100 -> Laney Digbeth 500 -> Fender 610. 6. I have done just that! From an old review of yours of the GB Modern, the EMGs sound a bit smoother to my ears compared to the Nordstrands. Might be the signal processing but they sound very nice.
  7. Had a good practice last night. Just getting the set together for tonight's gig at the Gryphon with a couple of Canadian doom bands, Witchrot and Tumble. Tumble were caught up in a Canadian flight attendant strike and it was touch or go if they'd make it or not, so we prepped a short and a long set. I've also managed to make a parallel fuzz sound on my GX-100 inspired by the Mountain King Megalith that actually sounds as good as pedals and confirmed by the rest of the band, so I'm very happy with that and have taken the pedals out of the effects loop (after carefully backing up the patches of course!).
  8. Well, try it both ways maybe? Try draining them entirely and charge the case, put them back in the case. If they charge without pressing the button and they only last a short time again, then it's an issue with them. If they don't charge then try pressing the button to see if they do charge.
  9. Looks like it might be user error. The Amazon page says "You can start charging via pressing the charging control button, and it indicates the battery level of the charging case".
  10. There was a plectrum thread on here a while ago and I bought a whole different bunch, just to end up right where I started. At least it wasn't a big outlay!
  11. The only problem with tap to pay on a phone is when the bank arbitrarily decide they want the purchaser to put in their pin. I've been caught out by that once and we didn't have the actual reader with us. Thankfully they had cash.
  12. Bass players who think just going straight into an amp is always the best 😜 EVERYONE notices when you're swelling three octaves of the same note, with an additional octave up & down into delay, reverb and shimmer reverb and you sound reminiscent of a church organ.
  13. I don't think I've seen Duck Son & Pinker in the thread... Used to love getting the bus into Swindon and having a mooch in the music shops. The other two are still there, but I remember DS&P letting me play a lovely faded Gibson Les Paul DC that I wish I'd had the money for. And a Parker P40 come to think of it. Their bass stock was never great, but I spent quite a lot of time there. I think my mum got my Dad's clarinet serviced there when I decided to play that for a spell. Their Bath store was a bit of a landmark in the city too. I miss PMT too. Not so much the latest Bristol store, I think the old site was better. But it's sad that my closest music shop has gone.
  14. Got another: clip on tuners on stage. Feel free to use them all round the house, but they should never be seen on stage. Even band practice is pushing it.
  15. Maple fretboards and painted headstocks should never have happened. If the headstock is painted, it should be a dark wood fretboard. Ramps make your bass look bad. I don't care how they might help your plucking position. Work it out another way.
  16. Brain fart! I've used too much thoughts to be much good for goodly looking at things and stuff this afternoon. (Power Automate can suck it though) Looks like it's still there on the website, so they're probably sat in a container somewhere, waiting to return. An email to SBMM might be an idea? https://intl.sterlingbymusicman.com/collections/stingray-sub-series-basses/products/stingray-ray4?variant=31560137441395
  17. Looks to be that way. It isn't listed on their website for the colour options. https://intl.sterlingbymusicman.com/products/stingray-short-scale?variant=41301358837875
  18. Could always add threaded inserts and use bolts for the pickups if you need it a bit longer. Alpher use M2.5 bolts in mounting their pickups. I have used a bit of laminate flooring offcut when I routed some P90 cavities a bit too low in a project this year. Turns out fake granite laminate is an excellent tonewood 😂
  19. Yeah, I don't even think about it on my Dingwall. My thumb just rests on the curved edge. Plus it's properly rounded over onto the top of the pickup. No harsh edges. Much comfier than a p bass pickup, and better than the sharp edge of some jazz pickups. I often wonder why more aren't curved - the Mustang pickup looks really cool to me. And then I remember the massive Delano things and I reconsider my position... They're too oval and I can't see them as a "cool" option. Quirky? Yeah. Cool? Never.
  20. First practice in a while. The drummer and guitarist were running late, but that meant we had time to re-record some vocals for the next EP. It was very fun playing loud again, and we chose the setlist for our next gig. And we also started getting a new song together.
  21. There's the American Performer P bass in the current lineup.
  22. Having been in this position and chosen an amp, I'm glad I did. It really elevated my experience and I hope it does for you too. A little Fender Rumble, Ampeg Rocket or the new Laney Digbeth Foundry would be a big step up for not all of your budget. An 8" speaker might be ok, but a 10" one generally sounds better to my ears. Always keep a lookout for used deals too. Here, Gumtree or Facebook marketplace are worth a nose. A little MarkBass or Gallien Krueger might pop up in your price range, or any of the others I've already mentioned could be a second hand bargain.
  23. Yeah, I feel like the Bristol one has really gone downhill. The rooms all used to have decent enough gear. A rootmaster head and a 210/410 cab, a 412 and head plus a 212 combo for the guitarists. Now you're lucky to get a 100w Orange combo and one Boss Katana combo. But wait, "we have two guitarists" I hear you say? Tough sh!t. I really don't quite understand how everything gets so broken unless people are intentionally breaking it. Like, a 412? Are people intentionally trashing that? Or was the quality insufficient for the amount of use it gets and the budget not allocated for good replacements? Or perhaps they can just get away with cheap gear so they do. We use the live room of a studio most of the time and it's so much better. No noise from other bands because there aren't any within in the building. I get an 810, both guitarists have 412s and the drum kit is decent.
  24. My Dingwall has a similar angle cut in. I find it much comfier than the P bass standard cut, which always seems to be in the wrong place for me. I'm seriously tempted to strip the finish off my HB tele and do a forearm contour like that... I might be a bad influence 😅
  25. I told them to put you above the puppet show!
