3.
Went into a well known "Guitarx2" shop in Newcastle yesterday, fancied one of those White Squier Active 5 Strings they had in stock. I always ask if I can try out a Bass, never just pick it up, that was no problem and they asked me to take of my jacket ( which had no zips on) which I thought was a bit daft as my belt buckle was then more exposed! Anyway the bass was surprise surprise well set up, almost in tune although it was a struggle to hear it over the guitarist around the corner ( well it was Saturday afternoon) and I only had the amp on low volume. Had a good look at the bass as I'd decided to buy it and the back of it was quite badly scratched already, not just on the surface but ones you could feel were quite deep. I pointed this out to the young sales assistant, he insisted they would polish out, I pointed out that they were too deep for that. He said he would look to see if they had another boxed one in stock, but they did not. I suggested paying £200 cash for a bass priced on the floor for £229 given its scratched condition, which was rejected, so I left and they did not make a sale. I guess a shop always has to have items on display otherwise no-one would come in, and these are bound to get scratched/damaged but a bit surprised they would not budge on the price. Anyone else had a similar experience to me on this type of isse?
lol That same act has happened to me, Ages ago when I was growing into bass I was looking into a Warwick, corvette was on my mind. I walk in, see a nice ash one on sale, 5 stringer and all plus natural finish I couldn't help myself but to have ago. It sounded fine, was allowed to go into a practise room and through an ashdown amp these sound pretty punchy. I take a glance round and notice slight scratches into the wood..and a ding centred near the back. This made me wonder if I wanted to buy this they would have another..unfortunately like most shops they only stock one unless you wait ages to order one. So I confronted the sales man who was pretty nice and helpful altho I think when I mentioned it..defence kicked in. He began denying its been a demo for long..and mentioned custom shop constantly...I DIDN'T CARE..I just wanted that one, there, then, today. Cheeky as it is, I asked for a little off to compensate..he wouldn't budge...and went off to another customer...to now I still see it..but I think its gained more playing attribute in looks...more dings You can't beat a sales person...they (the shop) needs profits..I guess thats why whatever they have..unless its second hand, they wont knock the price down...to them its still new, cos it hasnt left the shop. Ahh well, Im happy with the Warwick I got now, cheaper and immensely better
 4.
Looking forward to joining the forum. Only recently taken up the bass at 56 having started to feel the effects of older age with 6 string LP and enjoying a jam with my nephew's bass. Bought a Squier Jazz Bass and (after consultation with Line 6) feed it through my 30W Spider II with no ill effects so far. Opens up a new world listening for the basslines. Watts-Roy, Entwistle much enjoyed. Heard a great bassline around 06:30 on Planet Rock this Saturday but couldn't get readout of band or title - chorus involved "Rivers running dry" - anyone got any ideas? Regards to all
Welcome to the forums lol that lyrics is in Feeder's "Dry" song, or possibly Don Williams..< don't know who he is. or could just be sahg Have fun playing bass!
 5.
dude just post where you are and an askin price in the thread rather than pm'ing, t'will generate more interest
I curiously ask the same question. don't mind if you PM it to me..
 6.
2nd hand instruments come and go i find, 1st hand you buy bcoz u like them!
lol I guess so, but I wouldn't personally wouldn't want to burden that loss. In the case if I bought a Warwick for like £1899..and sell it for like £600..to me thats wasted money..lol IMO. Wierd how recently Warwick's are cheap.
 7.
under 2 days left cheaper than a new standard 6 string SSI
Good luck selling it mate!

 11.
i'd say the same...it seems like the fact you work together is getting in the way of you enjoying playing bass.
It's peeving me about this over egotistical guitarist..I've had to work with quite a full which resulted in me (at the time) chucking my guitar down and walking out. But not the rational way. First talk to the leader, if the message doesnt get thru..part ways. Get the Guitarist Fired from work...its a longshot (jokes) but it might work...teach a lesson? dont show up bass players? esp if they put all the effort in.

 13.
Hi guys I have been playing bass for about 6 months. We formed a VERY informal band and because we could all affoed it, and had the time, we started a group. The problem is that the group consists of work collegues. that should not be a problem normally but I am getting flak from the one guitarist, who started learning at the same time as me, that because I am not up to "his" standard The band should be dis banded. The company ranking goes as such. Drummer, the company boss, without a musical nounce in his body. But is listening to this guitarist and blaming me for the breakup of a band. The guitarist keeps suggesting, and learning, "easy" songs, and has quite a library of well known songs. This is not done intentionaly, but please remember the boss is the drummer. My fellow band members have very little idea of what constitutes a band, and (unknowingly) will pick a song that is very hard for me to play. Then I look stupid. the who is an example that I can give. I have tried to explain to my drummer, who is the center of influence, that this man learns songs that are easy to play on the guitar but are very hard for a beginer to play on bass. He thinks the sun shines out of his rectum and I try to tell him.....If the song is a classic, either the guitar is easy or the bass is easy. But never both. I have posted on here previously, I had a Warwick bass, which I have now sold and am now looking for a Rick. What I would like from you boys is 200 songs where the Bass is a lot less difficult than guitar. Thanks in advance.
Wow..your guitarist sounds immensely cocky..lol it's not reli how much you know of other songs that makes you a great players, its your character reli, presence, style..etc etc & if you make the effort to create your own material. lol..Indie through the years Has reli simple basslines, The Strokes, Arctic Monkeys..so try a handfull at that. Some Led Zeppelin lines are somewhat easy.. You reli have to give us some bands and we can mention songs by them that have the easy basslines EDIT: +1 for The Funks Comment, why bother staying?
 14. lol must be a bitch when you get these new...because the resale values are such a loss, its better to get second hand
 15. I've always wanted to jam with John Bonham...sadly tis a dream..and always will be for that matter. apologising to stick to indie...but matt helders from the Arctic Monkeys is pretty progessive...*don't judge*

 19.
Well if you're after slapping....then the Marcus Miller's fantastic.....as they're trying to recreate his sound on a budget. But that's a point...only Marcus will really get his own sound. It is a tremendous bass. And I can't see me ever getting rid (then again, I said that about my Thumb 5 string before I bought this JO5!). The sound is basically aimed more at being active....when in passive mode, you can change the volume of each pickup but not the tone. I haven't played a great deal of older and/or standard Jazzes, but I would say.....get yourself down to your nearest store that stocks the Marcus along with other jazz basses and just try them out for yourself. Again, only you'll know what looks, feels and sounds right for yourself. It depends what you want to use it for. My band is all covers, so I need versatile basses. I get that with the Marcus, but this JO5 sounds completely different. I reckon I'll stop shopping now
lol haha, one more bass for me and then my search is over (still fixated on a Thumb..4 string preferably)..I continue with my getting the car cause, I keep neglecting that. I think I would have to check it out, they seem nice!..Old jazz basses at steal prices I would immediately jump in for as there's something *traditional* about Fender that I can rely suggest to many people as a quality bass..I think IMO new fenders have become digital for my likin...my bands a funk band, I transition from guitar and bass so Im pretty happy with what Ive done and invested to in 2008 Thanks for the advise Pete! thumbs up!
 20.
It feels and sounds fantastic. Passive bass, not active, but the pickups are monstrous. Got a lovely genuine Jazz tone to it. It hangs really well too. I have a feeling my Marcus Miller Jazz will be spending more time on the guitar stand from now on.
Haha! its great to hear Pete, its also a shocker to hear it puts a Fender Jazz Bass to shame!..I'll never look at one the same again...jokes! lol it's all fair. we do have to get all we can from new instruments See my friends approve of those Marcus Millers and I've never had a go on one, plus I've got money aside for another bass or a car..*inner voice* "BASS BASS BASS BASS BASS..." would you suggest they have a unique sound? or is it just like a jazz bass?
 21.
No worries mate. You won't be dissappointed with it. On the "slap" thing....have a scout around YouTube at the variations of people slapping and you'll see lots of different styles of it. Some wear the bass high, and attack the bass with their forearm below the bridge, some wear the bass low and attack the strings from above. It's a good idea to have a good look at all the pros (Marcus Miller, Victor Wooten, Alain Caron, Larry Graham, Mark King, etc. etc.) and watch how they play. You can pick up tips from all of them. At the end of the day, everyone is different.....there's no "one" way of slapping. What works for me might not work for you. And tied into that, the string height can have an awful lot to do with which style you go with. But the lower you go with your action, the less delay there is between hitting and releasing the string with your thumb. It just has to be comfortable.
I will scout about on youtube mate! lol Marcus Miller will be a first... Yeah! my teacher (who teachers guitar and bass) made me learn only one way..and he forced me (at the time) as it being the correct method where you attack the strings from above...like flea, but to me that just feels reli awkward & uncomfortable as I do wear my instruments high...just like the 50's/60's , I've evolved that technique where I tuck my forearm and use the complete force of my arm for the slap..it works on low strings as Ive discovered so I may lower the height just a tad bit on the Streamer...*sigh* gonna have to read the online manual.. lol I feel impulsed to say Pete, hows the new Lakland? is it fitting nicely in your uber bass collection? Cheers
 22.
Won't have been new, but to be honest, I've not gigged with that bass for nearly a year. I never let my strings get really dead beacause I like my strings to be a bit bright. The last time I used it live was around April so they should still be fairly OK. It's very difficult to say after all this time though, obviously. What I would say is the ones that are on will be Warwick Red Labels, which, when they are new, are nice and bright (if that's the sound you're after), but they do deaden fairly quickly with sustained use. They are the cheapest in the Warwick range. I used to get them for about £6 a set from an eBay shop. The ones I've given you are DR Fat Beams, which retail at around £33. I bought three sets, and have used the other two sets on another two basses. I haven't had lots of use out of them, but some people on here use them and swear by them.
Thanks Pete! I may change them just for the sake of it I've fixed the problem with the LEDs also...a friend of my dads who does circuit boards did a run thru of all the circuitory..its spik and span now! only 1 minor loose connection... Cheers mate (once again) for the slap bass advise!..I dont have to slap so hard on the streamer
 23.
Hi mate. I personally like action set pretty low, and to be honest, I think the slap is more about your right hand technique. The higher the action, the harder you're going to have to slap the strings. The lower it is, you don't have to slap from a foot away! In the end, you'll have a more relaxed right hand/arm so it should flow better.
Good Ole' Pete, Thanks Mate..Oh yeah Ive been meaning to ask, you know the strings that were already on the Streamer..were they new? Cheers mate
 24.
Do a quick search on completed items on eBay, it'll give you a fair idea of value. If it's in decent nick I'd guesstimate £500. As much as anything I'd say that figure is based on the general price of all Warwicks at the minute... there are at least 2 NT Streamers going for around £600 so a BO should theoretically be valued lower and the fact that you can get a new one for £900!
Thanks Warwickhunt! I'll check into it...but Ive just phoned him, apparently its second hand to him, so it be thirdhand..its a 2000 one..I must have mistaken age as to when he got it..oops! he said he paid £710.
