2. Running out of bump images...type bump. I'll consider reasonable offers.
3. You could claim the contract was signed under duress.
4.
You can't have heavy hands with a low action.... it makes you play clean, which only you can decide is a good thing.
+1 Not all basses can do low action. Getting low action without fret buzz is possible but only with stiff necks (composite/laminated with reinforcement) or necks that have had their fingerboards dressed after refrets a number of times as the wood in the neck has stabilised over 20 years or so. The reason why you're getting buzz could be as much down to the level of the fingerboard and frets as much as anything. Don't beat yourself up about technique when the cause might be something else.
5.
I've still got the PDF of the management strategy that you linked to. Scanning through it again it's interesting how some o the concerns raised seem to have been ignored
It's worth noting whether the strategy was adopted by Camden as Supplementary Planning Documentation. I know it was by Westminster and the borough boundary runs right down Charing Cross. If Camden have then this should be noted in any submissions. It's also identifying who or what(if a committee) is responsible for decisions over planning applications and making a direct approach. Finally, it's worth bringing the matter to the attention of the media. Although media attention rarely influences planning process, it can influence those elected members who are wary of losing their majority. Most developers will simply push for whatever they can get, skirt the limits of what is reasonable in planning terms and rely on the planning authority to pull them up on whatever is unacceptable. The ultimate fall back for the developer is to threaten that whatever the local authority wants makes the development economically unfeasible (while at the same time refusing to share their evidence on the grounds of commercial sensitivity). I'd imagine in this situation that a similar tactic to that used for the Astoria might be proposed - a new venue. Although Consolidated don't have the Crossrail Act to help push things through in this case. EDIT: The most recent planning assessment for St Giles is here: http://camden.gov.uk...-giles-holborn/ P12 is relevant: "A place to be entertained. The area has a number of restaurants, pubs and clubs and is also close to the Theatreland of the West End and the nightlife of Soho and Covent Garden. This means that large numbers of people pass through the area at night to catch buses and make their journey home. While these businesses contribute to the bustling nature of the area, add to the range of goods and services on offer and contribute to the local economy, they can also be a source of concern. ... Local people particularly raised concerns about the area around Tottenham Court Road and New Oxford Street, where a number of late opening premises are located in a small area. " P16 too: "Denmark Street Conservation Area is designated for its historic street pattern dating back to the 12th century, the magnificent grade I listed St Giles Church and the unique survival of early Georgian terraced housing built in the 1680s on both sides of Denmark Street and the network of narrow passageways that give it an intimate character." Looks to me like they have ONLY consulted with the local community and have failed to recognise the wider significance that the area has to London overall. Problem is that the local authority can often point to consultation as proof they've ground truthed proposals and if the local community don't know how to express their concerns in planning/economic related terms, the local authority has a get out of jail free card. I'd say there's a strong case to argue that Camden have dropped the ball a bit.
6. I have 5'ers but they're staying with me for the forseeable.
7. Thank goodness it wasn't my old band. I would have felt like the bloke who Ringo Starr replaced in the Beatles.
8.
I have an Ashdown 427 (very close to a V8, I think)
Unfortunately, not according to Mark Gooday. I asked him.
9. Wow...can't believe I missed this...
10.
I think Kiwi wrote about this a few years back when the plans for the Crossrail development around Tottenham Court Road was announced, but to be honest I didn't think it would happen. The north side of Denmark St consists of 17th century buildings and the 12 Bar Club in particular still has the old forge of the blacksmiths on the site.
You, Sir, have an outstanding memory. Yes, I did write about it as I was leading the design of the area around St Giles High Street and Centre Point Tower at the time. Consolidated Developments own most of the block and I had a conversation with the owner at the time about their plans. I imagine the time is right now that Crossrail is about to come on line in the next few years.
11.
So glad these are not 5ers otherwise I would have yet another project that I will never get round to!
I have fivers...but they're with me for the time being.
I was thinking of getting a fretless neck for my Berger bass. Do you just take off the neck you have, and replace it with the other? I know it sounds like a dumb question . Anyway have a hamburger bump;)
Cheers! The degree to which one could retrofit will depend on which Steinberger bass you're talking about. The hole pattern on these necks seems to fit those on the Steinberger XQ basses but not the earlier Newburgh or other MusicYo instruments. No replacement headless graphite necks will fit Spirit instruments. These necks don't share the drill hole patterns of Newburgh or other MusicYo instruments so the current holes will need inserts drilling out and plugged. New holes will need drilling and you can either tap your own inserts or purchase them through Bernd at Headless Europe.
12. Swiss army knife of an amp. I had one for a while and it was amazingly versatile.
13. Hi Mike Sure, I didn't get your message but have PM'd you.
14. Yours for £2099...tempted?
15. I ordered this many years ago and never ended up using it. So they're up for grabs to anyone who fancies using it in a restoration. I've checked ebay and the going rate seems to be around the £350 mark (not including shipping or import duty). The neck is in extremely good condition apart from one issue - the truss rod doesn't work. I had planned to get this sorted as I had a quote for £100 from Martin Petersen to fix including refinish but other things took priority. Since then it's been to NZ and back with my other kit...so given I haven't used it in the last 6 or so years, probably time to move it on. Happy to take reasonable offers on this. Science bit: No trades. I really need the cash for a non bass related purchase. First person with the money gets the neck. A 10% deposit to secure it is absolutely OK if you need to raise funds to purchase so long as the balance is paid within 30 days. Otherwise you risk losing the deposit. If it doesn't sell on here within 4 or so weeks, it will be sold on through other websites and any out of pocket expenses will be added to the asking price. I would prefer collection from SE London although I can deliver within the M25/Kent area for the cost of zipcar hire (£8.50/hour subject to availability). Or if you work/visit London, I can meet you at a train station at the weekend, or if you are visiting the City of London, I can meet anywhere between Farringdon and Liverpool Street during the week. I could post as well but that might take a bit of organising ahead of Christmas.
16. SWCL. She Who Complains Loudest.
Indeed Kiwi - regarding rarity, load up the Steinberger database and search for XL25...doesn't occur much... http://www.steinberg...m/serial-L.html
Cheers! Mine has the serial 3371...which doesn't show up there.
17. I ordered these a number of years ago and never got round to using them so they're up for grabs to anyone who fancies turning them into a project bass. Given these are made to Steinbergers specification, they're resin cast which is a different form of manufacture to companies like Status and Modulus. They offer necks that are made from a process of overlaying sheets of graphite fibre on top of each other. I also contacted Steinberger to check whether these were Steinberger made, and they said they couldn't find any reason to believe they were. So luthiers out there are free to use them in their own instruments. The Steinberger necks are fantastic and designed to sound full and warm with all the evenness in string response and articulation that makes graphite necks so great. I've had a Moses jazz neck in the past which was a bit whippy but these Steinberger specification necks are rock solid in construction. At a glance: 24 fret, 34" scale Zero fret and headpiece included Brass inserts (with an imperial thread). Truss rod fitted and accessed from behind the head piece. Weight - won't register on my bathroom scales but maybe 1.5-2 kg? A fifth neck is available as well but it's with a well known luthier at the moment. I can make that one available if there's interest but it would need to be collected from the Peak District. Happy to sell either as a job lot or separately for £120 excl shipping. 18. As you may be aware from my other ads, I have a bit of stuff up for sale. This one is a 1998 (I think) Spector NS5CR in tobacco sunburst, serial number 1359. I like these basses so much that I bought two. My other Spector is highly customised so this one is better suited for selling on. What you get is a bass that purrs like a Smith but with more midrange definition. These Czech made Spectors have the same all maple construction (inlcuding solid maple wings) used in the US series but a rosewood rather than pau ferro fingerboard and a slightly different preamp. The nut width is 48mm, string spacing 17mm at the bridge and it weighs 4.8kg which is nice and manageable. The neck is very straight and solid feeling. I've modified this bass with coil split switches and some custom Wizard soapbars. The neck is also deglossed with some super fine 2400 grit sand paper, if anyone prefers the gloss finish, it'll polish back up with some cutting compound. The original EMG BT preamp is installed but has 500k volume pots for passive pickups. Comes with a hardshell Spector case and I'll include the original EMG pickups as well. Otherwise you risk losing the deposit. If it doesn't sell on here within 4 or so weeks, it will be sold on commission through a selected bass retailer. So the cost of commission will be added to the cost of the bass.
19. Probably the last bump. After a discussion on Friday, my other half said I can keep it if it's so collectable.
20.
If you haven't already, circulate these details round to the local Crack, sorry, CASH Converters shops as there's a great chance they'll turn up at one of those shortly after theft. (Along with other secondhand gear outlets)
And the shops on Demark Street (incl. Wunjo's), Bass Gallery and any other places that might take in secondhand stuff. BF cabs are going to be distinctive and not easily overlooked.
21. Could be a deadspot related issue as well. See if putting a weight of some kind on the headstock makes a difference. I sometimes brace the head against a wall.
22. There was a hint from Mark King on Twitter that he might be playing a Jaydee next year.
